Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas
by Doug Fischer
Edwin Valero, the undefeated WBA 130-pound titlist who was banned from fighting in the U.S. by the New York State Athletic Commission four years ago due to a previous non-boxing related head injury, has been cleared to fight in the state of Texas, according to his Japan-based promotional company Teiken Boxing.
Valero's application for a Texas boxing license was recently approved by the Department of Licensing and Regulation, which governs all boxing matters that take place in Texas. According to Teiken, Valero had to pass a battery of physical and neurological exams in
order to satisfy the state regulators and medical specialists.
The decision by Texas boxing officials comes as good news to Valero, who has fought in Japan, his native Venezuela, Argentina, Panama, France and Mexico since his boxing license was put on indefinite medical suspension in the U.S., but has yearned to fight in
America, where he first turned heads as an underground boxing sensation.
“I am very pleased to know that Texas has approved my license,” said Valero, who holds a perfect 23-0 (23) record, including 19 first-round KOs. “It has been four years since I have boxed in the United States. I am back! I will deliver my best performance ever when I fight in Texas. Thank you to the officials who made this possible and to all the fans who have supported me; I will make you proud.”
The 26-year-old southpaw is currently training in Las Vegas with noted veteran boxing coach Kenny Adams in preparation for his next fight against his WBA mandatory challenger, Israel Perez of Argentina, on June 12th in Tokyo, Japan. After this mandatory title defense, Valero says he would like to fight in Texas against a top-rated junior lightweight or lightweight contender sometime this September.

That's great news. He's an exciting fighter to watch and I hope he does well.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
NICE!
FINALLY DAMINT!
perhaps he should fight juan diaz also from texas lol juan can go down or he can go up?
what do u guys think
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Well, this is the day everyone was waiting for. I wonder who they get?
It is a bit disappointing though, I was hoping for Pacquiao's Macau fight to be versus Valero and I thought they would do it because that is the only time it could reasonably happen. I thought it would be perfect.
Not sure if they can do that in Texas and create that kind of interest. So I'm happy, but I still want to see him fight in China against Pacquiao.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
for some reason i have a feeling pac nor arum will ever have any of his fighters fight in macau???? i mean arums been saying pac will fight there next after every fight pacs had since moralesII?
i dont trust arum worth sh*t.
i bet arum gets paid by steve wynn just by mentioning macau in interviews, cuz why else would he always be saying that over and over again for like the last 4yrs and never actually acting on his word?
smart business man but not to be taken literally at all.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Valero is ok, I still think he's a lot of hype and might get picked apart by a sharper boxer/puncher but he has done well so far. Fighting in the US he'll finally get some tougher tests
Doug Fischer is a 'mo

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
true im sure theres a lot of hype about edwin and he may be exposed by a true smart sharp boxer, but it would be fun to see him KTFO of weak bustaz until he does lol
it would be good for the sport and add excitement
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Valero should fight Guzman. The winner of that should fight Pacquaio.
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Thanks for the news. He may very well get beaten by sound boxers, but hell you can say that about almost anyone.
I have seen alot of his fights and the man hits very hard. now granted he hasn't had much as far as opponents, but I think he is more skilled than Ponce De Leon (the other guy who hits hard who can't box)..
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
i want him to fight pac. i dont think the david diaz fight will make more money than a valero fight with pac. i just wanna see how pac will fare against a hard puncher and how valero does against a boxer/puncher w/ lots of speed.

Ha-ha, Macau, what a sleaze-pit that place is! Good fun, though.
I wonder if Arum has even been there. He'd better give the Chinese lads with tattoos their cut if he wants to put on a show.
ARUM TRIAD INC. PRESENTS . . .

I hope after Arthur he gets JMM or Valero...

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Yes, Guzman Valero would be extremely exciting
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
I like Valero but he is very limited and has no defense either, im just waiting for the day he will get exposed. Guzman would give Valero a boxing lesson IMO power only gets you so far in boxing there will come a time and it will come quickly for Valero. When he realizes power won't save him in every fight.

Yeah Guzman would pick him apart but as long as he is aggressive and has that power, he can make some noise. We just saw it in Katsidis. Katsidis has much more polish but the same concept.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
I wouldn't be surprised if we actually get to see Guzman vs Valero in the near future. Neither of those two will be able to see Pacquiao anytime soon. Guzman because Arum was not so happy with Guzman's running against Soto and Valero would need to work his way up to make it a big money fight.
Golden Boy has Guzman and Marquez in their roster so I also wouldn't be suprised to see that happen either. That would be a great fight and also would add to either's "money making ability" and wouldn't hurt their legacies either.
This is a Valero thread, how did I end up focusing on Guzman?!

It's not that hard seeing as how he is NEVER talked about. Could be the most talented boxer in all the sport and no one talks about him ever. Even I'm guilty and I'm a fan, the guy is a marvel to watch but for whatever reason just doesn't have a buzz.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
true! i loved his last fight damn he dominates!
he schooled ummm whats his name soto bad.
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Yeah he did. A pretty highly regarded Humberto Soto who a lot of people wanted to see fight Pac.
Back on the subject of Valero. Part of what made him such a phenom, in addition to his knockout streak, was his high profile sparring sessions. Here is one of them with Bobby Pacquiao conquerer Urano Antillon. It's old but, given Urbano's big win, it's worth another look.

So impressive is Valero in these sparring sessions, makes me think he can box a little.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
NICE!
thought it was gonna have EV KTFO out of his sparring rates for like 10rounds tho lol
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Valero would have a great chance of knocking Pac out. JMM nearly did becasue when it gets wild, Pac leaves his chin out to dry. So does Valero mind.
Be awesome to watch!

Valero doesn't have good head movements and lateral footwork.
Pac would take him out before Valero could have his gun drawn.

Manny Pacquiao and Edwin Valero actually sparred before. According to this Pacquiao interview IN TAGALOG...

Pac said "Valero is just a mediocre puncher with a big mouth, that's what he really is". ;D

Am I the only one who's asked himself:
"What will happen when Valero takes a hard shot to the temple?"

I think Vicente Mosquera floored him before. But I don't know if it was a headshot though.
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
I agree Mick, but I want him to do well. I think he is good for the sport. Pac is full of shit with the mediocre punching stuff. Hell Valero hits people in strange places and they go down.

I don't think it was because of how good Soto was that made people want to see him fight Manny, it was more of Soto just knocked out Bobby Pacquiao. It was more of "you beat my brother, now see if you could beat me?" Similar to the Donaire brothers and Darchynian situation...
-
Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Valero should fight Guzman, then the winner fights Pac, before he fights Hatton.

Just curious......;D

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
Great news. Valero is exciting to watch. I would NOT want to see him v Guzman,he would get slaughtered and picked apart. A Soto fight would be great and although I think Manny would have beaten his ass,the Pacman has lost some fire,if Valero caught like JMM did at times,it would be night out for Manny. I'm not sure about Valero's chin though. Would be a great fight!"

A lot of people on here wanted to see that fight immediately after Soto beat Humberto Toledo on Versus in that comeback fight where he looked very good. Gamo in particular really talked him up as an opponent and had a lot of people calling for that matchup so I wouldn't say it was a "you beat my brother" thing, otherwise Pacquiao would be fighting a lot more opponents ;D
No doubt about it, Soto is a genuine contender.

Nate Campbell talks about MP, JMM, and Valero.

Re: Edwin Valero Cleared To Fight in Texas!
I agree Amat,Soto is a good fighter and a tough challenge for anyone that is going to stand in front of him.I was dissappointed by his showing v Joan but he was facing a pure boxer.Manny isn't a pure boxer.I'd still favour Manny to beat him but it would be a cracking fight!
