Nice, I've liked Thompson for a while. Good to see him get a shot. At least he's not 4 or 5 inches shorter than Wlad like most guys trying in vain to get inside, getting beat up on the way in only to get tied up.

I wonder what kind of deal was worked out between the two sanctioning bodies. Thompson wasn't the number 1 fighter for the IBF. I'm just glad to finally see Thompson in action.

I have a soft spot for local fighters and depsite the fact that I live in the Baltimore area I consider D.C. and it's fighters local.

Still, I do not see this being "the moment" for Thompson. What I do forsee is an 8th round TKO for Wlad.

Excellent I had no idea this fight was even on the radar!

I've been touting Thompsons chances for a while, I really think he's the man most able to challenge Wlad.

I don't know if he can win but I think he will make things uncomfortable for Klitschko.

Hell I like him, this is a guy who turned up to a fight and lost his shoes, borrowed some trainers 20 minutes before the fight and still whupped his opponents ass.

Luan is one of those mental unstable fighters,he just plainly sucked that fight,but I don't want to take anything from Thompsons,even if Krasniqi would have shown in top shape(mental and body) he might have lost...

I've never seen Tony get hit with a hard punch so I'm not sure about his chin. I can however say the dudes skilled and if he brings his 'A' game I can def. see him giving Wladdy problems he's also a southpaw so that in itself can give Wladdy problems. I just hope Tonys willing to go after Wladdy.

Isnt Thompson just a couple of inches shorter than Wlad?For what ever reason when I saw this, Wlad's fight with "touch of sleep" Williamson flashed through my head.Might get interseting with Similiar height,Thompson is a very hungry dude right now but will be in deep.

I'm surprised this came off.

I like Thompson but I'm not sure he could stand the offensive attack (if there is one) of Wladimir. Thompson isn't a real assertive guy and I think that's what it's going to take to beat Wlad and for Thompson to be comfortable he has to lay back at range and that's never good versus Wlad. Also keep in mind that Thompson is a southpaw, his defense isn't bad, he's a cagey guy who blocks a lot of punches but the southpaw's biggest enemies are the left hook and right hand. Those just happen to be Wlad's best punches.

However, if Thompson is able to move forward and comes with an attack of his own, then Wlad isn't going to be able to beat him by just playing paddy cake. For that reason alone, I'm glad this is happening.

Well I am obviously happy Wlad is going to be fighting so soon and fighting Thompson instead of Povetkin.


Tony Thompson has only lost once (decision to Eric Kirkland in his 5th fight), I don't believe he's been knocked down, he's a very tall lanky southpaw, BUT his level of competition has been Shannon Briggs-esque and he doesn't have 1 punch power, his stoppage of Krasniqi was more Luan running out of gas than Tony blasting him with power punches.


I think Thompson will prove easier to hit and Wladimir should close the show in style with this fight.

Come one Lefty....Thompson is his mandatory and deserves a shot. He's a quality fighter who has the potential to give Wlad plenty of trouble. Haye has yet to prove himself at HW and he need to fight a Brock or a Rahman type guy before he jumps in with Wlad. Wlad will fight both Povetkin and the Chagaev/Valuev winner before he gives Haye his chance, and he's right to do so. Haye is really about 4th on the list. Be patient. Haye will get his chance.

David Haye has potential but let's see him fight some more true heavyweights that are more dangerous than Bonin.

Dominick Guinn would be a good starting point....if Haye can KO Guinn then he's in business as a top power puncher in the division IMO.

I think Haye needs to test himself before going straight in with Wlad. Say what you like about him but when he throws the right with conviction it will take out most heavyweights.

TKOing a Polish bouncer does not make Haye a world class operator at Heavyweight although it was impressive how he got it done compared to A Farce.

As for the topic it Wlad throws his punches I expect him to TKO Thompson. However I do not think he will do this as much as the crowd in Germany will not be on his back as much.

I hope Thompson does put up a good fight so I can see Wlad perform at his best but Thompson is not on the same level as Wlad so he will get dropped and as for Haye I don't think he will ever get past Sultan, Haye would be stupid enough to reach across for the BIG KO("Will you walk into my parlour?" Said the spider to the fly, kind of thing) just to get sparked.

Im with you Lee Haye knocks Wlad out and i will bet with anyone here if the fight happens. Wlad has never met anyone who is as quick and as powerful as Haye, the last opponent Wlad fought who i can compare with Haye's speed and power, is Corrie Sanders and look what happened there. I think Wlad is very overrated he was knocked down x3 times by slow plodding Peter ok Wlad did win the fight clearly, but honestly you think if Larry Holmes or Lennox Lewis fought Peter that Peter would come anywhere close to even knocking down either man ?? Peter is one dimensional, slow/plodding, Heavyweight. Even his chin and power are overrated never thought that much of Peter.

As for Wlad's other wins after his loss to Brewster, Chris Byrd now Byrd is decent fighter with good slick skills but it was a mismatch against Wlad, Byrd is 6'0 round about 213, and Wlad is round about 6'5/6'6 240+ pounds. Byrd hadn't looked in his previous two fights before the rematch with Wlad, and really and truly he had already dominated Byrd once before so what did it really prove beating him again ?? it was a mismatch in the first place. I give Wlad credit for beating Brock but Brock is only decent at best he is very mediocre, Ray Austin is garbage simple as. And the rematch with Brewster i give Wlad credit for taking the rematch but lets be honest Brewster was ring rusty and when the fight started he looked pathetic, he was supposed to be a challenger for a world title, and he looked like some average joe just pulled out of the crowd, disgraceful performance and any Heavyweight in the top 10 would of beaten that version of Brewster.

Last Sultan Ibragimov i give Wlad credit for taking the fight once again because he had to be made, but lets look at Sultan's history. He had a draw against Ray Austin for crying out loud, he beat Asmatic Shannon Briggs who can't even fight for more than 10 seconds of a round. Then Sultan even has problems with a 45 year old Evander Holyfield who's last good performance was against Lennox Lewis in there rematch back in 1999. Hell even a natural Super Middleweight James Toney beat a younger version of Evander Holyfield much more convincing than the so called "IBF" World Champion. And to make matters even worse Wlad fought like he was scared shitless against Sultan, he wouldn't throw the right hand and was just happy with winning one of the most boring Heavyweight title fights in history of Heavyweight division. And what makes me laugh is that Wlad is much bigger than Sultan but yet he wouldn't impose his size or will on him.

Final comments i really believe Wlad is overrated, yes he has good skills but if he was in the 90's or 70's. He wouldn't even be in the top 10 IMO.

Thompson fought also an eliminator with Luan Krasniqi last summer...I guess Wlad works them off as they come...first Thompson than Povetkin...

How do you know it will? More signs point to "it wont" because he has improved. I understand that's your opinion but you can hear why you shouldn't think that way and counter it. How do you know it won't happen again ?? Wladimir hasn't fought anyone as dangerous as Sanders in a long time that posses Sander's hand speed and power. I think your mistaken im not comparing Sanders to Haye they fight nothing a like, i meant that both men have a lot of speed and power. Wlad has improved by being more cautious he rarely takes any risks when fighting now, and is happy with winning a boring jab-fest/clinch-fest. He hasn't met anyone in a long time that is a dangerous as Haye speed wise and power wise. Haye will take the fight too him and force him to fight and we will see how Wlad copes. I don't know if Haye could take the same punishment Sanders did against Vitali neither do you IMO no Haye couldn't of took that punishment, but Haye wouldn't have been getting hit as much as Sanders, because Sanders has a poor defense and leaves his chin out to be hit. No man, i wasn't getting agitated i will stop with that. I was just trying to prove a point and went overboard. Sorry. Haye is a great boxer i understand and it will be interesting. I do think that he will give Wlad more trouble than anyone in the heavies right now but i think Wlad would get him outta there. But just like i told you... I myself don't know either. I just say Wlad has a leg up because he was heavy from the get go and has much more pro fights and pretty lengthy am. career as well. I can say this.. i know two people (you and I) that will be watching this fight if it is to happen.

I also think that a good fight for Haye would be Eddie Chambers and Povetkin. Chanbers is fast with good defense of course and i think he would give Haye a tough fight. Povetkin being a mauler would keep the pressure up. That kinda guy pursuing Haye may just get laid out by David. Ibragimov i think would be tough for anyone because his style is tricky and risky. He cocks that left hand back and leans back so if you do try to land something of substance He can let that left go clean.
