In the past Joe has had alot of problems with his hands,they seem to be holding up ok at the moment,but with him moving up a weight he says he will be hitting alot harder could his hands be a factor in his fight with Hopkins?

I wouldn't be surprise to hear Calzaghe blames his hands after he loses to Hopkins
I don't think so...The biggest factor in this fight will be Joe's work rate...Hopkins does not start fast and prefers to counter all night....Joe just needs to keep a 75 punch per round work rate and he will win this one...IMO Hopkins needs a KO for a win
I agree joe has to be busy.I just carnt see Hopkins throwing enough punches over the 12 rounds to take a decision.Quote:

Since he broke his hand the last time he puts very little steam on them. It doesn't matter whether there's steam on them or not though... You get slapped enough you swell;D

A large factor in Joes lack of hand problems as of late is his use of Grant Gloves.
Traditionally Joe always wore Everlast gloves, but they resulted in one of his worst breaks so he switched to Grant.
The switch very nearly got him in trouble as he put a Londsdale sticker over the Grant symbol of the gloves;)

Calzaghe's hands were bothering him in the Sakio Bika fight. They are gonna hurt even worse fighting Hopkins. It is likely that Hopkins is figuring out the best way to break Calzaghe's hands. Maybe with his elbows, perhaps when Clazaghe throws one of his wild uppercuts. He has probably been practicing lowering his head at the precise moment so that when the pulpous handed fighter throws a punch it lands on the hard part of the noggin. Whatever Hops game plan is, I think it's safe to say that trying to breaking calzaghe's hands will at least be a part of it.
I find that very difficult to imagine. Its seldom that trying to break an opponents hands has been a means of trying to get the win. Maybe trying to force a cut through head butts I can imagine...but to conciously think that a viable means of winning is to break a hand. Nah, can't see it. Not that I dont think Calzaghe may have hand issues in the fight. Its happened before. Calzaghe doesnt unload with power like he used to though. When required he can up the power as we saw in that bruising body shot that got Kessler but in general Joe looks to win rounds with his high output rather than put the hurt on his opponents. Im hoping the hands play no part in this though, because Calzaghe deserves this opportunity and it would be nice to see him play out the end of his career as I always thought he could.Quote:

I think the real issue here is if the referee would allow Nard to headbutt, low blow, rabbit punch and elbow Joe Cal like he does in all his previous fights. The Wright-Hopkins fight was the worst-officiated match in the history of the sport IMO.
All fighters who lose have broken hands and have been poisoned. No one actually loses a fight any more. Although Katsidis didn't blame anything last week he just said he lost. Must have been sent to the present from the past. I bet Calzaghe and BHop don't be that honest. No matter who wins.

People seem to think all Calzaghe has to do is out work Hopkins on the inside they couldn't be more wrong he will lose if he does that, he needs to box from the outside use his jab and he will win a decision. I thought Hopkins had two fairly decent wins against Taylor:)
ICB is pretty right on the money. I do believe Hopkins will have the ring generalship in the fight no doubt. He will be able to get on the inside whenever he want's to rough Joe up. However, for the the moments the fight is on the outside he has the skills to shut down Calzaghe's punches from even landing.I just hope the judges don't fall in love with Calzaghe's pitty patter on Hopkins gloves.
