Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I know nothing about this guy. Hows come Pavlik had to face stiffer competition and tore through his competitors.
Was it because Pavlik was dodged more. How come this guy fights a nobody and gets his shot so soon. He talks like he
is so great. He says in his interview that he spars with Enzo Marcineilli who he says hits way harder than Pavlik. Very good you need to spar a guy who is 3 classes above Pavlik to make any kind of power comparison. And how dose he make that assessment. Has he already fought Pavlik to make that decision. Then he goes again and says Calzaghe would kill Pavlik. You fight Pavlik and Calzaghe and if it dosent end in a knockout for Pavlik it would go to the cards. Who the fuck is this cat. Here is a couple vids.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I think he's lucky to be in a mandatory position but he's not the first. The way 2008 is shaping up though, its the year of the upset. So everyone go put your money on Lockett now. ;D

GREAT part of the Tread.Nice video of the GHOST;D

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
No not easy. Some say it is, but it's not.
Lockett is a very big puncher as well.
Credit to Pavlik for giving Lockett a shot, because Lockett is pretty dangerous.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Lockett will be a bloody mess by the third if he makes it that far.

I think it will be stopped . TKO third round Pavlik. Then this could lead up to a possible Pavlik - Calzaghe fight. Enzo Calzaghe is Lockett's trainer.
-
Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I would say it depends on Pavlik's mindset. If Pavlik takes Lockett seriously, he should win. If he does not take him seriously going in, he might end up getting added to the upset statistics that 2008 is now famous for.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I've never seen Lockett fight but as he says himself in the vid he has a degree in sports science and that makes him dangerous.
-
Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Lockett has power in both hands but he will not be able to match
Kelly power shot for power shot Pavlik wins inside of 5 rounds.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
There's no such thing as an easy fight. We should have learnt that by now from the spate of upets this year! Even this weekend, the prospect losing to Cornelius lock(cool name lol) and Bundrage beating Ouma.Pavlik needs to prepare 100% otherwise he'll go the way off Andy Lee,Williams, and a whole host of other fighters this year/

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Lockett should consider it a victory if he makes it to the 3rd round
-
Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I think Locketts power is overated. He has not looked as destructive since he moved up to Middleweight. Add this to the fact that Pavlik has so far shown a good chin.
I only see a Pavlik victory in this fight via KO in the first 6 rounds.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Lockett will give it his best shot but he has no pedigree at this level.

Lockett has been on TV over here for about the last 6/7 years.
Have you just recently, since you joined this site, become a "proper" boxing fan?

Correction mate, he's been on SKY TV for the last 6 or 7 years.
I only have Setanta.

OK fair enough. A lot of his fights have been shown on undercards too

It's entirely possible I've seen one of his undercard fights if for example highlights were shown on ITV after a Khan fight but if so it doesn't ring a bell.
Although I have freeview its such a pain to get it to work, I always have to unplug and reset it to change channels.
This means that any ITV big fight live I rarely watch the early stuff on ITV 4 so probable have missed a couple of his fights because of that too.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Locket is a decent fighter with heavy hands.but his best weight was 154.he also busts up fairly easily.
its no walkover but Pavlik shouldnt come unstuck here

Yeah a couple of his fights have been ITV4 in recent years but EVERYTHING else SKY.
Hardly any funker had seen Calzaghe till he moved to ITV so it's completely understandable NON Sky people would see these guys like Lockett.. at least your first look will see him sparked out on the deck ;D

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
This fight will be as hard for Pavlik as he himself makes it. Lockett is not world calss and his power didn't carry up to middle, but he's an honest proffesional and somehow worked his way up to no. 1 for the Warren BO. As he pretty much said himself in 1 interview he's surprised he got the fight since he probably thought Pavlik would vacate the least renowned of the belts, but out of all the challengers that got offered the fight after Duddy pulled out, Lockett was the one that grasped the opportunity without making unrealistic financial demands so he should be commended for taking the fight.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Pavlik dose his best moving forward at a decent distance. Lockett is 5'10" so he needs to get to the inside for the wingspan of Pavlik. Easier said than done. Pavlik will keep him at bay with jabs preventing Lockett from using his game plan. If Lockett dose come in he will get caught. Its allot easier to knock a guy out coming in than going away.
But if you watch alot of Pavliks fights he knocks guy out cold who are moving away. Lockett has never faced a guy of this pedigree and certifiably none with this kind of power and and sound technique. I see this one ending ugly in the 2-6 rounds. A first round would not surprise me a bit . This been a year of upsets but I don't see Pavlik coming in unfocused. He will come out with his A game as usual. A kid from northeast Ohio always comes to work and work is what makes us a separate breed up here.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I just think Lockett is not going to be able to smother Pavliks punches and he will get knocked out trying.
-
Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
Lockett has only a puncher's chance, but it's still a chance. I really don't think that Pavlik is that great, and he will be found out over the next two years. He is being overrated by too many people.

Kicks the ever living shit out of Edison Miranda. Some thing Abraham couldnt do. Knocked out Taylor. Then the puncher out boxed the boxer. How can you say overrated. If anything you could say Taylor and Miranda are overrated but not Pavlik.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
I've been watching Pavlik for a little while now and I am now thinking Lockett may have the key to beating Pavlik. Pavlik leaves that right hand out a long time after throwing it, Lockett just has to time the right off the double jab which he throws regularly and it will be lights out Pavlik. Watching Lockett highlights he definately has the tools to deal with Pavlik maybe even k.o. him if Pavlik gets cocky. Pavliks only chance is gonna be to outbox him and move all night.
Yeah right April Fools!!! :p

You got me there. Not your typical post. +1. Pavlik ko by the 5th.

Re: Is Lockett an easy fight for Pavlik?
He's overrated because he was close to being the ring's fighter of the year and some of the boxing press gave him more credit than Calzaghe, Mayweather and Manny. Lets be honest - he has won one big fight, and people have gone over the top. As for the Lockett fight, I hope Gary beats him, but could Pavlik have picked a better fight? He's picked someone who will attack, and he will box off the back foot until Lockett gets knackered, and then he'll open up and look good. I like Pavlik, but he hasn't proved himself yet.

Re: Is Lockett a easy fight for Pavlik?
In answer to the topic title . . . YES !
The styles arent a good mix for the Welsh man who prefers having the room to get his shots off and fight at his own pace . Pav strikes me as being physically a much larger man and we know he has a huge edge in punch power
Lockets chin is also one of his vunerabilitys and he's already been beaten at a much lower level than this. I wouldnt like to be in tem locket for this one but the only advice I'd be able to give him would be , keep moving give angles , dont trade and be quick . Wrap your arms around Pav at every opportunity dont allow him to work on the inside and dont take any risks leaving your chin exposed. Pav IMO is just gonna walk straight through him . I hope it isnt an embarassing massacre .

Exactly ....he has to smother Pavliks punches. Easier said than done. He has to get to the inside first. Pavlik throws a punch punch every second it seems. I just dont see the welshman working inside if he is going to be backing up.
