Bilbo's commitment to climb a mountain
I have decided to set myself the goal of climbing Mount Snowdon by September the 31st of this year. Here's a picture.
http://content.answers.com/main/cont...lyn_Llydaw.jpg
Not exactly Mount Doom, in fact it wouldn't even be considered a mountain in most countries but here in the UK it's the second highest peak.
Now as most of you all know I have a hugely reduced lung capacity from having cancer so this will be an incredibly difficult task for me, even though most normal people could walk it next weekend. I myself climbed to the top with my parents as a lad. I was about 12 and my brother who also completed the trek to the top, albiet with much whining was only 6!
But it's still a daunting task for me and my iron lungs :p
I have made a vague pledge to myself to do this every year for the past 4 years but being lazy and unmotivated I've never got beyond the walking a couple laps of the local park.
But I realise the reason I failed in the past is because I didn't invoke you guys to helping me! As I spend nearly all my waking time here I decided to make a public pledge to achieve this by September 31st and to provide visual proof or else to face the loss of my entire collection of rep points here on Saddo's!
Now power, sex, money and fame cannot really motivate this hobbit. I would probably turn down a night with Scarlett Johansson if it meant I had to get up early and the promise of all the money in the world couldn't motivate me to get out of the house for more than an hour or two a day.
But as you all know, I'd sooner walk 100 miles barefoot over hot coals than to see my beloved Saddo rep points taken from me so I believe this will be the perfect motivator.
I'm going to record my training and preparation attempts in my blog, so anyone can keep track of my journey if they wish, although I do recognise that this is likely to be as much interest to other Saddonian's as a John Ruiz or Zahir Raheem ESPN career marathon.
Still I'm making the pledge now, I climb to the top by Septemeber 31st and provide photographic proof, or Saddo removes my entire rep points haul.
To me this is life and death :D

Cheers Lefty, and you too Miles.
It will be hard work with my crippled lungs but really if a fat fuck like Jack Osbourne can climb El Capitan http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...osemite_NP.jpg
Then I should be able to manage what is essentially a steep hill climb.:)

haha thanks Rains, actually there is a train that goes right to the top so the biggest temptation will be to hop on that.:p

Re: Bilbo's commitment to climb a mountain
Here's motivation, since I seem to be the person that you have the biggest problem with in gaining punch power, and reps, instead of just having them erased, you have to give them to me. ;) ;D
Anyways, good luck with you quest! I'm sure that you can do it!

haha sounds good. I don't think Saddo would allow us transferring reps but I'm up for it if he allows me :)
If that doesn't motivate me nothing will :p

I figured that this would be a good kick in the pants for you to get motivated. :kick: ;D
In all honesty though, I hope you make it, but make sure that you take every precaution to do it safely.

I've given myself 5 months to train for it so it should be ok.
I've created a little blog and will be self indulgently recording all of my steps.
I'm really looking forward to getting started!

Re: Bilbo's commitment to climb a mountain
I've bookmarked a reminder on my Calendar to dig up this pledge/post on September 31st if it gets forgotten,,, and you don't want that do you???
I think it's a great goal though!
What sort of things do you have to do to prepare and train?

Re: Bilbo's commitment to climb a mountain
Agoraphobia reminds me of a show I used to watch in elementary school, Nickelodean GUTS, a Gladiator style show featuring kids and at the end they would climb the AGGROCRAG which was a big metal mountain engulfed in a mysterious fog and with 6 checkpoints along the way to the top. Always wanted to get on that show and romp, never quite accomplished my dreams.
But don't let me keep you down Bilbo, best of luck!

I've set up a new blog section called 'Bilbo's climbing Snowdon challenge' which will be my week by week progress report.
It's quite exciting I'm starting to feel like I have a purpose.
I'm going to do this for my pua blog as, start setting goals and challenges. At the minute I want to concentrate on this though, one step at a time:)

Wow congratulations you're obviously a heavily muscled hero type guy like Fantana, just minus the charisma, wit and intelligence.
Perhaps the mountain you climbed was just a boring mountain, like your posts :)

Better get training for climbing that mountain. You can't let yourself get out-mountained by a seven year old.

well not to brag and interfere with your conversation, I as a kid was well known to walk hills up and down. To grade school and back home, as much as I did that. that must count for something right? :D

Re: Bilbo's commitment to climb a mountain
Thats the stuff Bilbs!
Nice one man, perhaps you could try those lung expanders.
You can get em in Argos and supposedly they help to get your lungs ready for athletic competition etc.
