So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Hatton
I think the Oscar rematch is a joke but I couldn't handle a Hatton rematch at all.I think it's time fans stopped giving Mayweather an easy ticket because if we use the "he has to make the most $$$ " line EVERY SINGLE TIME(as most Mayweather fans do), then we are never going to see Floyd fight a top 10 WW other than Judah. And then we can use that excuse for all fighters and boxing would tuen into a joke. A fighter can fight the best out there in his own weight class and make $$$,look at Manny.
BTW,I don't want this thread to turn into a Floyd is ducking Cotto thread,he's not(well at least I can't make that assumption just yet). It's merely Floyd's unwillingness to fight a legit 147 pounder!

Yeah its bullshit really, not at all ideal even for a Mayweather fan. I understand he wants to make his money and I can't say I wouldn't do the same for another easy 20 million beating up on Ricky Hatton but the fact is he's been there and done that. He beat Hatton as convincingly as you possibly can so I really did want to see the Cotto fight at the end of the year or early next year. Who know's though, maybe they did explore that option but Cotto is also tied up until the end of the year?
I expect that fight to be made by the middle of next year. As far as fighting a legitimate welterweight I just don't think anybody is worth it apart from Cotto...maybe Sugar Shane but that would be the only fight I see as a slight challenge to Floyd in the Welters.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
They'll make for good "events".As far as Oscar re-matching ffloyd i can't see everyone's problem..the first match was competitive he stretched floyd big-time,and can take the re-match IMO.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
Meh, I can't blame him for fighting Oscar again. I don't blame him for trying to milk that cash cow dry with a rematch. But if he doesn't fight either Cotto or the winner of Cintron/Margarito, I'd be really disappointed.
There is absolutely no need for a Hatton rematch. Floyd showed that he has the tools needed to deal with Hatton. The only possible change is that Hatton would be more cautious and would lose a UD instead of getting KTFO again.
So yeah, I have no problem with him milking the ODLH cow dry, but after that he needs to give Cotto a shot (assuming he wins all his fights up to that point) because he deserves it more than anyone.

Well im Mayweather fan and im not happy about him rematching ODLH, there is no point to it IMO. Other than the 1st fight got massive interest it was biggest money earner in boxing history wasn't it ?? and because a lot of non hardcore boxing fans think ODLH won. I spoke to a lot of my friends and etc who don't watch boxing a lot. And you will be surprised El Gamo how many non hardcore boxing fans thought ODLH won. Even though im not happy about the fight, it still is a risk for Mayweather and its still an intriguing match up.
As for Hatton vs Mayweather 2 i would be very disappointed in Mayweather for taking this rematch. It would go up there with one of the most pointless rematches in the history of boxing, i can stand ODLH vs Mayweather 2 because at least there 1st fight was good and at least it was competitive. Where as it was obvious Hatton can't handle 147 and its obvious he was well out of his league as Mayweather handed out a boxing lesson, no point in that match up at all.
If Mayweather beats ODLH again and still doesn't want to fight Cotto because he wants Cotto to get bigger name or whatever, i would like him to fight the winner of Cintron vs Margarito 2, Now Mayweather against the winner of either one of those 2 would be very interesting to see. In fact call me crazy but i can actually see that happening.
This is realistically how i see Mayweather's career going.
Mayweather beats ODLH again.
Mayweather fights Margarito and wins.
Mayweather fights Cotto and wins.
Then retires.
Maybe thats more hoping though than realistic.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I don't have any problems at all with the Oscar fight. He wants to make a lot of money and this potentially could once again be the richest fight in boxing history, I certainly don't begrude either of them taking this fight, and much prefer it to Floyd taking a year off.
It also needs to be mentioned that Oscar IS a world class operator and still even now one of the 4 or 5 best possible challenges out there for Floyd.
It annoys me when people think this is a gimme fight for Floyd. Oscar is an exceptional fighter and Floyd is at a huge weight disadvantage. Oscar is as difficult an opponent at 154 for Floyd as Cotto is at 147 imo.
As to the Hatton fight however, this completely sucks. Hatton was destroyed and embarrased by Floyd Mayweather, If this fight happens again there is no intrigue or possibility of Floyd losing imo, its just another ass whupping for Ricky Hatton.
Actually I think Ricky will get beat easier than last time as psychologically he knows he's not in Floyds league, it will be a hopeless case for him even before he steps in the ring. I guess it's a good business move from Ricky and it will set him up for life, so can't begrude him for wanting to take this fight but Floyd has no excuse. He's in a position where he should be pursuing greatness, he's already got enough money to last a dozen lifetimes.
If he does go ahead with another Hatton fight then I do hope he will get stripped of his welterweight title. I'll agree with Danny in that instance that he's not the true welterweight champ as he won't have made any effort in 2 years to have defended it.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I think there both horrible matches. The DeleHypa rematch is an "event" type fight which will have little relevance on the Big Picture In the welter weight division.Floyd beats Oscar even wider this time, pockets a mass of cash and waits out the winner of Cotto Vs.Margarito/Cintron and Oscar finally gets the picture as far as being past it and sticks to promoting.Worst scenario is Oscar winning as It will most certainly mean a third fight with either one risking yet another Huge payday, leaving the "other" welters to man-up and fight one another to the last man standing.Mayweather does not do well sitting Idle and seeks highly marketable Cage match with Doink the Clown or possibly a Bra & panties showdown with Melina at Summerslam

I am all for Mayweather v ODH 3 and Hatton 2 and Juddah 2

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
An ODLH rematch doesn't really excite me but its ok, I get why he's doing it and it could be an allright.
A Hatton rematch is shit plain and simple. Its pretty much indefensible although I'm sure somebody ("somebody" is Saddo code for Majesty) will try.

They know they can make a pretty buck so why not?

I also don't understand why people keep mentioning "Oh, this is ridiculous." It would be if Oscar was completely destroyed and humiliated (as many proclaim), but the fight was far from that. Who else has challenged Floyd to a questionable SPLIT decision? Only Castillo I, so why say Oscar vs Floyd II is ridiculous?

Ok, now this is a bit different. Sure, the fight was exciting and all but Hatton lost clearly, no questions asked. A rematch against Hatton, Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii dunno, doesn't convince me, just like Cotto (eventhough I wish I am wrong in that one).

Always nice when someone agrees with me 100%, reminds me I'm not the only smart one on the forum :)

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I'm with the general consensus that ODLH 2 fight isn't a complete waste of time, but I'd have liked Oscar to fight a more credible opponent than Forbes to add more credibility to his rematch with Floyd, so that we know he's still operating at the top level rather than just having sparring contests. Perhaps he could fight Forrest, or one of the top welters.
As for Hatton, well form a line cos I reckon the Big show deserves a another shot before him.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I don't have a problem with any of those rematches, however I think there are better fights out there that I would rather see.
ODH was a close fight and only PBF fans think it was a lopsided win.
Hatton was exciting, I think Hatton could make some adjustments and win but it is very unlikely.
Judah, I always like watching Zab catch a beatdown so why not....
Really much rather see PBF fight Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Forrest. All of those are better fights for me.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
not read the responces but my personal opinion is it stinks....
just fight Cotto and stop milking the fans for money you greedy twat and that goes for ODLH and Hatton.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I personally would rather see Mayweather/Hatton again than Mayweather/DeLaHoya. Ricky did bring the fight and it was intriguing to see Floyd play nasty. And even though it hurt me to see Ricky get bounced off the post like a pinball, it was funny. I almost fell aslepp watching the DeLaHoya fight.
But seriously, I would rather neither happened again. I can't see how Floyd will get credit for fighting either again. Oscar is an old man and Ricky is a fat man.....both will be beaten easily. Floyd will start where he left off in the 1st fights IMO. Cotto or put on some weight and go play with John Cena for a living.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I really think that Mayweather has nothing left to prove, but get the impression that he's still not done with boxing. If that's the case, he should fight Cotto and nobody else. He's the only one who could beat him, and so he's the only one who would make him perform to the best of his ability. Oscar and Hatton fights would just be taking the piss; he would know how to win, and he would win. Cotto is a different story. I still think Mayweather's legacy is assured, and he is definitely in my top ten best (not most exciting) fighters that I have ever seen.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
The DLH fight was close and it's an event fight which someone said earlier, the Hatton fight wasn't close and he was knocked out! (No rematch deserved there)
Get DLH out of the way again then fight Cotto and be done with it!!

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I don't have a huge problem with the ODLH fight because it was somewhat close, ODLH was the champion going into the fight and it ended up being the biggest money making fight in history. It's hard to say no to that and I wouldn't mind seeing it again because it will be a better fight and promotion too. But if Floyd fought Hatton again, I'd have a serious problem with it. Boxers shouldn't be rematching guys they've just knocked out when they were the favorite/champion to begin with. I don't think it will happen anyway. I think it's just a lot of posturing between Floyd and Oscar since Floyd hasn't signed the contract yet. Floyd says he wants to fight Hatton again, ODLH says that he wants Pac, Pac says he wants 30-40 Mil , and so on...
I'm hoping that this year is just a year Floyd wants a little break since he's probably a little bored and just probably tired from all the years of boxing/training. Boxers are not slaves and Floyd's paid his dues so if he wants to take a break from the sport for a bit then fine. I'm hoping next year he'll get back into the swing of things, fight three times, and even fight Cotto in the summer of 09'. I'm a Mayweather fan first but still a Cotto fan and that's a fight that needs to happen. It has to for boxing's sake. By next year, the money will be there for both of them assuming Cotto keeps building hype by winning and making claim that he's the REAL welterweight champion.

Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I wouldnt mind a rematch with Hatton. But it is completely illogical for me to think that way. An Oscar fight doesnt interest me really.
Like many others it is a Floyd: Cotto fight that I really want to see.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
i would of perferred mayweather to face cotto or some other elites at 147 but i suppose a de la hoya rematch ain't that bad.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I'm not against an Oscar rematch, but It wasn't my first few choices for Floyd. Obviously we all want to see Floyd fight Cotto. Hatton doesn't deserve a rematch.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I don't want to see Hatton fight Mayweather again. I want him to take care of business at 140 with Paulie and Witter.
I'm not excited about the Oscar rematch, but I guess it makes sense to make some $$$$ while hype and demand builds for a Cotto fight. It's true, lots of casual fans saw the fight for Oscar, and I don't mind him cleaning up the SD win by winning the next one more clearly. The only fight I really care about seeing is Floyd vs Cotto. I can wait until 2009, if need be. Floyd is going to play it out with Cotto just like he did with Hatton.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
I defend floyd in almost every area...but the oscar waste of time is all i can swallow, if he rematched anyone else he's already beaten i would loose a ton of respect for the guy.

That's right. I would have liked to see him face a more credible opponent out there as well. I wonder if we will see another "Felix Sturm" surprise, hopefully not because I do want to see ODLH get another shot and see a not-so-questionable decision against Floyd.
Quote:

Or probaly easier. Hatton didn't show as many flaws, as Cotto already has, when he fought Floyd and lost clearly. Put Cotto in there against Floyd and do you think a guy with slower hands, slower feet, questionable chin, penetrable defense, prone to cuts, etc. I sometimes don't understand why all the hype. But then again, like I have said many times already, I really wish Cotto had what it took to beat Floyd. I don't care who beats Floyd, I just want to see him loose. Even better if it was a journeyman but at this point Floyd won't be fighting anyone what doesn't bring a good pay.
-
Re: So,what do you think about Mayweather rematching Oscar and possibly rematching Ha
Cotto is a very underrated boxer, he has stopped Judah and out boxed Mosely, he has all the credentials to beat Mayweather because he is young, strong, hungry and his biggest and most legitimate threat at Welterweight.
