UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Dont know why but I just find myself hoping he loses whenever he fights,
I know this is kind of a British thing to do , to pray for a crash and burn, but I am not really prone to doing this, I was very upset when Hatton lost and would be if Calzaghe or Haye did too.
I think it is just his personality , I find him very obnoxious during his interviews, + quite boring infact. Or maybe it is because he hasn't had a chance to prove himself in a gruelling match yet that I dont have that *like* for him.
What do the rest of the UK fans think ?
Because looking at the papers you would think he is loved.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
hate him, dont mind weay he fights but hate his personality, HOWEVER he is good for british boxing so i hope he keeps winning
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Personally, I think he doesn't come across too badly in interviews and public appearances, and he has done some good things for the community etc and charity work, but it's hard to say whether that is just Frank Warren telling him what to do to continue upping his profile.
Although he'll never convert the hardline racists, I still think its a good thing to have top level muslim sportsmen achieving things and breaking down some divides in British society.
The one thing that does worry me about him, that we've already seen signs of is him getting into trouble driving too fast and whether it could be a sign of a Naz-like demise. Whatever happens, I think it'll make for an interesting year or two ahead for him as he looks to prove himself.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
No. I think he is too full of himself. Probably due to the hype ITV and The SUN give him. They even advertised last night fight with the words 'Muhammad Ali' for fucks sake. Went like this "Ali did it, can Khan?"..........what the fuck!!!!!
I just want him to lose because he will get so hyped up he will look a joke when he gets the shit beaten out of him at world class(if he ever gets there)
He is a prospect getting the attention of a legend by dumb casual numpties. I am actually really angry he gets this much exposure. He does have talent to have a good career but I see so many that world class guys would take advantage of and break this kid.
Khan is gaining peoples interest in boxing with all this media attention. But his die hard followers are gonna suffer like he will. He is no Naz, not even close, but he has the attention.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
No i don't he gets well too hyped and when he come out with the comment that he could compete with Mayweather. I thought that was ridiculous and it turned me right off him. He is doing good for UK boxing and of course im happy in the aspect. But if he gets in the ring with J.Diaz, Campbell, Casamayor, he loses IMO.

This is how I feel. He's a great talent but a class A prick at times and I wish he'd tone it down.

Just cant see this.
Just how is Amir Khan more full of himself than, say, Calzaghe.
Sorry but these people who hate Khan, it does smell of unconscience racism.
Khan does loads for the community, he carrys himself off really well and is polite, not as cocky as a million other boxers.
Great talent, whole contry should get behind him and watch his development with interest.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I like Khan though he can be really annoying in a way.
In annoying I mean calling people out, the other day on boxingscene he called out Cassamayor and then a few days later on Warrens site he called out Nate Campbell, I rememeber when he called out Mayweather and that is ridiculous.
I like him though, his speed is immense and is power is improving all the time, there is doubts about his chin but I see him being a world champion by the end of the year. One major thing I like is he knows how to finish a guy off. When he drops a guy he goes in for the kill and with his blistering speed the guy is gone before the round is out, look at the Limond and Earl fights along with the Kristjansen one last night.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I like him. Don't think he's any more arrogant in his abilities than most boxers, he just gets more press. People who don't like him will take everything he says the wrong way.
Hope he keeps his feet on the ground and doesn't do the Naz route. When Khan ran over that person on the crossing, at least he had the conscience to stop, and seem genuinely concerned and guilty, rather than run away like that other turd.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Funny thing is hes growing on me... i keep on wanting him to prove me wrong as i think he could be a good future star if his chin gets tested and hold out
BUT...
his arrogence is getting worse nothing wrong with that as i was a massive Naz fan but Naz backed it up. ;)
to me Khans claims of this and that hold no weight till he stops stepping in the ring with these feather fists they are feeding him... take on someone with power that isnt a tomato can and he can brag as much as he likes for me ;)
i see this year being very intresting for Khan as i'm sure it said on ITV that he only has a year left with the Warren contract so depending on if he resigns with Warren will make all the difference to his fights under the Sports network contract.
remember Rickys last fight under Warren it was against the top rated KT ((think about it i'm sure most know what i'm getting at ;) ))
for me he will lose as soon as he is put in with any test with more than a 50% KO ratio... prob 2 fights away ;D;);D
but hey i would love him to prove me wrong because behind all the hype and bragging hes seems like an ok kid... just wish he would take a leaf out of the old Hatton book on PR rather than the old Naz

Watching Nas at the same stage of his career was so much better . He looked more talented, more entertaining, more powerful, quicker etc . Kahn hasnt shown me anything to suggest he is a superstar waiting to happen . If he were the next Floyd, Oscar or Jones then we'd know by now
Barrera was my favourite fighter when he beat teh Prince and ended years of me watching to see him lose. So far Ive had 3 years of disapointments wanting to see Kahn get hurt cuz his comp has been awful . Maybe Juan Diaz will be the little Mexican to expose him .

To be fair, I think Khan has shown that he's strong, quick, fairly accurate and goes forward quite a bit too. He's still growing into his career, and with talk of him being two fights away from a world title shot so young shows for me that he is coming along quite nicely.
As with all fighters, the big test will come when he's in with a hard-hitting champion, but so far he's not been in with many big hitters. Earl was meant to test the chin, but Khan demolished him. And dispatching Gairy St Clair, a recent champion was a good performance too. Hopefully, the big occasion when he gets his big shot will motivate him even more, and make him step up his game and quality once more, and I'm not ruling him out from doing that.

Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I can't warm to him - and I do think he believes his own hype and is too cocky and arrogant. Am a big fan of hatton and Calzaghe and am beginning to feel same about Haye too but with this lad I just find myself hoping the other guy sparks him.
I remember telling you all about 18 months or so back about him driving a Lamborghini round Leeds City Centre on a Friday night passed the main bars (several times !) blowing the horn as if to say - get a load of me (I haven't beat anyone of note yet !!). Guess that didn't help with my impression of him
Like many I also believe he will be levelled when he goes in with a decent puncher.
As I have always said from day one he will be found out and kayoed within 18 fights

Again the main reasons you state for dislinking Khan: arrogance and cockiness, belive own hype. I would say that Haye and Calzaghe are far worse, sounds hypocritical to me.
In my view, we cannot ignore the fact there is a lot of Islamophobia in this country which creates a state of mistrust, whenever they see a Muslim.

Haye and Calzaghe have proved themselves thats the difference, im not sure what you was implying with your last comment but i hope your not one of those people that bring race into a debate.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Im ambivalant about Khan because I really dont know all that much about him. Seen a few clips here and there and read these pages but anything more I really dont know....So I hope he can have it in him to do well when all's said and done. Have no real idea if he can though.

Sir, I do not want to bring race in to the debate, I am just puzzled why Khan is singled out for things others are praised for, and Khans religion seems a possible answer.
Those attributes Khan is critisized for in this thread seem to me to be pre-requisites for any boxer who wants to make it to the top, or who already is.

to say you fo not want to bring race into the debate seems a bit strange - particularly as you keep bringing race into the debate
as has been said the others' cockiness has been backed up and if and when Khan takes out a top ten fighter he has the right to be cocky. Until then shut up.
He only has to look at Audley Harrison to see what can go wrong - someone else who was a millionaire before he stepped through the ropes.

Fact is though, he's done everything asked of him so far, and is getting to the stage where he is looking at some sort of title shot.
If he doesn't start calling out guys and getting some sort of attention in the business and interest in a title fight then it wouldn't necessarily happen. He's saying what 90% of other fighters at similar stages in their careers are saying, and just gets hammered for it on this forum becuase there is more attention to his fights on here than for other fighters in similar positions.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
first things first he does seem to have good talent, speed, and punch power, he seems able to go at a good pace round after round.... however i dont like the way he has become a real arrogant little prat, whenever he gives a interview he says something that makes you wish he gets beat. there getting him fights against smaller, weaker, non-punchers and he acts like he's beating top 5 ranked guys in the world...... he said in the interview before lastnights circus act that everyone around the world knows the name amir khan
they should sit him down and tell him to be a little more humble and accept he's getting hand picked opponets to build him up and keep him winning in a manner he can showcase his skills....... he hasn't done anything special in his pro ranks.............nothing that a decent pro getting a big push and hand picked fights wouldn't do, think how much stick a heavyweight would get for fighting nobodys and having a 25 and 0 record... think how we all dished out on audley harriosn for fighting no bodies........amir should be more humble and thankfull boxing fans afre prepared to wait and support him during this time in his carrear.........plus he seems to behave a bit wreckless out the ring with his constant driving bans and showing of with expensive cars, he has to get back down to earth
but hes got talent
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
The boy is young, he has talent, he has belief, he has ambition, I don't understand why any British fans have a problem with him.
He has been calling for a world title shot for a while now, which may seem a bit premature but surely that should be translated into a positive sign that he is ready to make the necessary steps up in class.
The only problem he has is being with Frank Warren. Last night was not the kind of test he needs at this stage of his career.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I think the comparisons with Audley Harrison seem to be very harsh, because he truly was fighting bums time and again, whilst Khan has been stepping up the opposition and building up the quality he's facing.
1 former world champion
1 former world title challenger
1 Commonwealth champion
1 former European title challenger
1 former British title challenger
and those are his last five fights. Combined record of 131-12-6.
Audley Harrison's five fights at the same stage of his "career":
1 Polish Champion
1 former British Champion (who had lost the 6 fights before that one)
1 WBF "world" champion
1 guy with 3 losses in four fights previously to the fight with Audley
1 guy with a 7-4 record.
Combined records of those 5 : 95-31-2.
Stats can explain almost anything when spun correctly, but these tell me that Khan is a different league to Audley at the same stages of their careers.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I don't like Khan....everytime he goes into that square ring I hope he gets a good beating...I can't wait for him to up his comp a little and then you will all see him get beat down.....except for when he fought Willie Limond who scared the shit out Khan he has been over protected. Hopefully sooner rather than later Khans bubble will burst aka Audrey Harrison style and we can all move on to the next bunch of Olympions at the Bejing games....im sure we will get better stuff from that lot than Khan.......Unfortunatley Khan may have all the beautiful skills to get to become champ but not the desire or the chin.
Also not being racist but what will happen to all Khans hanger on family when all his money runs out cause im sure loads of them have come over form Pakistan to ride on the wings of victory but this will be very short in terms of revenue cause I can't see Khan doing anything more than fighting for a European title at best??
Also his family keep nicking all the front row seats....now thats not British....is it!!!
Job Biscuit (haavvee iit)!!!!
eh eh!!!
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I like Khan. He's good for british boxing. He's a good fighter!Of course he was bubbled wrapped at the beginning of the professional game after he won the silver medal for BRITAIN back in the olympics, and dont forget all you doubters out there, that he just lost out at the young age of 16-17 to the legendary Kindilin in the final. So if that was'nt a sign of what is to come out of the young british hot prospect fighter then you all doubters must of been watching his fights with yer eyes closed:bag: .Yes he may have had some really easy opponants especially so early on in his pro career, but which boxer has'nt:confused:.Look in retrospect at Audley Harrison compare to where Amir Khan is now, after he(Harrison) won the GOLD at the Olympics then turned pro.....He was a great hope for the country in the Heavyweight division and ended up quickly as the biggest JOKE in the country. So i'll give big RESPECT to Khan for what he has done so far and give all you Khan doubters a......:bat::bat::knock_out::nono::boxingmatch::pl thumbsdown: get the point now!!!
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Ive got nothing against the lad tbh,but I find myself wanting him 2 get beat meself, this is mainly due 2 the hype thats surrounding him. He's a household name in Britain, his names proberbly as big as Calzaghes and Hattons, even my Mum was tuning in 2 watch Khan live last night ffs! He has'nt done nothing IMO tho 2 deserve this level of exposure.U have Clinton Woods and Jr Witter and even Haye all World champions who never get a quater of the amount of exposure Khan gets.Woods in pertucular could really do with having the country behind him going into a massive fight with Tarver! Thats my rant over with 4 the day:rolleyes:
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
what i'm trying to say is that people shouldn't straight away over look his arrogant attitude and overlook the fact he's not had a single fight where before hand anyone has said..... " this is a real tough test amir could get beat here " every fight he's had its been a matter of how long will it take him to beat the guy.......lastnight was a fight he should not have had at this stage, the other guy had no buisness in there with him, the bookies were offering 7pence to the pound on a khan win, it was basiclly a no-chance of loseing in there with him
do you feel thats he's done anything to show he could handle a tough fight on the big stage against a good boxer with a punch, his last two opeonets have like 10 ko wins between them...............do you think if st-clair was a puncher khan would still be unbeaten, the moment he gets touched on the chin by a elite fighter he'll go down and wake up in his dressing room, he still hasn't worked out he gets caught with right hands over the top to easy............... he's good but he's still raw and needs 5,6 fights before stepping up to world level or he'll get put away
-

Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Amir Khan is a brilliant talent that people just can't stand and want to see lose for some reason. He's good to watch and the kid has the tools to be a future P4P #1. All of these guys with elite boxing talent are cocky, it's just some are vocal about it and others aren't. He's an Olympic talent that just missed out on the gold, with immense athleticism and elite boxing ability. Why shouldn't the kid be cocky? Should he be like "Awww schucks, thanks"? As long as he's backing it up, he's good for the sport. I can't really compare him to Naz just because of the ethnicity, Naz wasn't a true boxer, he was just a guy with an extremely awkward style with a ton of handspeed and power kinda like RJJ who was tough as hell to figure out. Actually, in and out of the ring, Khan's more Floyd Mayweather then Naseem. I'm calling it now 2012, an undefeated Mayweather comes out of retirement to challenge an undefeated Amir Khan for his welterweight title and P4P #1 status.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I like Khan although I would urge him to tone things down a bit.
Compete with Mayweather :o
As for calling out Casamayor and Campbell I think is a bit much at this stage. I see the same thing happening to him that happened to Katsidis. Casamayor will catch him and eventually stop him. He might have the skills but he lacks the experience.
I would like to see him fight Romanov and get past him first before he starts thinking of World level. He should forget his dream of being the youngest world champion for now.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I don't personally know him.
I don't like all the hype that The Sun and ITV create but i won't let that sway any judgement i make on Kahn. He comes across in interviews as any of other fighter does.....who believes in himself and is genuinely confident.
A lot of folk confuse this with cockiness.
He's a very good fighter. He needs to work on his defence, but i think he has much more ability than Calzaghe and Hatton both had at that age.
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
I like Khan. Dont have a problem with his attitude at all. I watch all his fights and i alwyas hope he wins.
Mind you i doubt that he'll pass the test against a live pucher....
When ever that hapens?
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
One thing I dont like, He always tries to Batter the Door down with a big Hammer. At the moment the doors arnt that strong. Id like to see a bit more craft being incorperated to help in the future, as he moves up the locks get stronger
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
Yeah me too, I like Khan a lot, and don't see the attitude problem that some do...I see a talented young boxer trying to keep the balance of his Muslim faith in a christian country,
He's a young talent who's doing his job well in the ring...he is not perfect, neither is he the finished article, but he is one hell of a prospect as a boxer, but one who is having to deal with the marketing men out of the ring...he is still learning and is a very respectfull young bloke...
I wish him all the luck in the world....he's good for boxing, and for those that think he ain't been tested he will be tested ...but lets not pretend he doesn't want that because he does...and its coming soon...
-
Re: UK fans : Do you like Khan?
i like him, i hope he does well this year
