Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
It's Hopkins-Calzaghe fight week, let's see who has the bigger number of believers here... Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Don't be shy, vote in this simple public poll...
And if you're in the mood, you can state the reason why you're picking that boxer...
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I think B-Hop will win... He's too smart and too experienced (20 years and 54 fights) to be outworked by Joe...
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Hopkins will win , but i must admit i dont know if its my heart or my head telling me this.
If Calzaghe wins it wouldnt be the shock of the century
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Make it three in a row ,Hopkins.
oh reason : (its already in black and white all over the front of the forum) and he's a bit tighter more controlling with it.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Back in December this same poll being conducted here and Calzaghe was winning that one, 15 votes to 6 votes...
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Calzaghe by a significant margin. Cant even seeing it all that close if Calzaghe brings his recent form.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I had Calzaghe at first, Then i started thinking about it , now im not sure. ? :-)
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
a close fight i see going hopkins way.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
If Taylor beat him twice a coupla years ago Joe will definitely beat him now.
It's been said before though, Joe earns no credit when he wins. It's a lose-lose situation. Almost anyway, VD being wrong again will make up for it for me.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I voted for Hopkins mainly because it's being fought in the USA. That should suit Bernard. Otherwise I don't know what the difference will be.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Calzaghe on points..
I can't see either fighter getting knocked out.
Joe is just fit enough to push ahead on points I believe... It's going to be a battle though.

you think hopkins can't win because of two close losses to jermain taylor??
in the first fight his gameplan was to relie on taylor getting tired later and take control, it was't the best gameplan by hop and he took too long waiting for jermain too tire. he learned from that mistake as it showed in the second taylor fight were he started quicker and i felt he won a UD 115-113. he confirmed he learned from his mistake against taylor in the first fight by his performances in the tarver and wright fight.

Right after the Kessler fight, when I think it was Hopkins called out Joe,,, the general concensus through the threads was that Joe would beat "old man Hopkins" like a gong..
I think the fact that the fight is here, and people have really had a chance to consider these 2 guys head to head.. They are both champions that know what they are doing in their, regardless of much else... Their isn't anything that seperates these guys by enough to straight up say without doubt who will win..
These are the fights I love!
You can watch 10,000 boxing matches and know styles like the back of your hand, but some fights you just can't sum up 100%.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
You got to admire Mr Hopkins for taking on this challange at 43 against a faster, bigger, younger, freasher and some would say more experianced challenger in Mr Calzaghe. Bernards got balls you got to give him that on the other hand Joe has big ones too coming out of his comfort zone and going to LV after what happened to Ricky. Joes risking everything on this fight if the Nard looses so what "he was old well past his sell by date" every one will be saying that on here sunday.
Joes going to be to fast and cute for Bernard at this stage of his career, just to much for the Nard to chew on he will be relying on the counter right (dont you think Joe relizes this) all night but he dont bang as hard as Kessler so I cant see Joe backing off and giving the Nard enough time to reorganize himself.
Joe for me 8 rounds to 4
Respect to all.;D

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I think we're possibly looking at a Lewis-Holyfield 1 job.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
That's where I respect Hopkins HUGELY DDuke, he's moving on in the years, but still taking the big fights.. He's taking genuinally threating fights almost every time.. He doesn't have a huge amount of fighting years left, but while he's still here, he's not wasting his time!
That deserves huge respect,,, and why bloody wouldn't he take fights like this? Good on him!
There are a few guys that need to take a leap out of his book..
Once a fighter genuinally gets beaten hard by a young guy, and really shows their age, I can completely understand them wanting to fight on, but taking less threatening fights. Or fighting guys their own age, ie Jones v Tito.. It's still good stuff to watch.. So respect to Hopkins for taking these fights while he still can..
Did I say their are a few other guys that need to take a leap out of Hopkins book?

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Calzaghe 116 - 112 Hopkins
Can't wait for this one - Hopkins is in a completely diffrent league to anybody JC has fought!!

Kessler hits harder than Hopkins. Hopkins has to conserve energy at his age and Calzaghe will give him no option but to throw back. Hopkins will get so tired he might even be stopped.
Hopkins knows he will lose, I really think that. All these blown up Welters he has fought have done fuck all at the weight they fought Bernard at. Does that not tell you something? Tarver was lucky to get a fucked RJJ in the ring and everyone seems to think that was a great win for Hopkins because of that.
Hopkins best performance was againsed RJJ because he actually won about 3-4 rounds.

For six or even seven rounds max. Then it's Calzaghe doing whatever he wants. Hopkins thinks he can counterpunch all night and win? Who can see that? For every blow Hopkins lands he will take 4 or 5 in return.

I agree with you.Though i would like to see a K.O from Calzaghe, but i cant really see him doing so.I believe he'll keep at bay and box at long range and out class the legendary Hopkins.Should be a awesome fight!!!!!!!;D

This is my thinking.........Calzaghe being a southpaw and his left hand being fragile but his strongest punch, he will risk it in the later rounds if Hopkins looks in trouble and throw it with all he has for a stoppage.

Same idea in my mind too.But im deffinately not taking Hopkins too lightly...No way!If anything,i reckon Hopkins has a harder punch then Joe,but we all know that Calzaghe has a Iron chin.I think Hopkins will be dangerous up close.I CANT WAIT!:D

Hopkins has a great right in terms of speed power and timing(specially at 43). I don't see it becoming a major factor as he never throws enough of them.
It will be an exiting fight untill Joe gets his act together, then its all one way.
trust me

Calzaghe if he boxes on the outside and uses his jab, Hopkins if Calzaghe fights him on the inside and allows Hopkins to rough him up on the inside. Its pick em can't really choose it depends on how Calzaghe chooses to fight Hopkins.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Calzaghe by SD, bordering on a draw.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
You have a deal then Pacstraight. Sig bet it is.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Toss up in my book, everything points toward calzaghe, but hopkins is just so smart and sneaky. He knows and has seen way too much in the ring to be counted out so easy. Just like most fights i really don't care who wins so i usually go against the grain in my picks when it's this close, so i choose hopkins. It wouldn't surprise me to see hopkins get himself DQ'ed before he lets joe beat him.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
Calzaghe by UD is my pick.
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
theres no doubt both these long reigning champions have prepaired for this long awaited contest, its been around 7-8 years in the making way back when hopkins was middle and calzaghe was supermiddle kings ( joe still is ). both men have always turned up in great shape although calzaghe being younger and having the more energetis style will have more in the tank. it maybe that at 43 the super hard training to get bernard in shape may catch up with him on the night ( i hope not ) i'd love hopkins to win because im a fan of his and i've never warmed to calzaghe, i just don't like him..... he should have been the greastest british boxer of the last 25 years hands down, but choose to stay in his comfortzone....even now when he finally goes to fight a big name its a 43 year old past superstar, if he wins he wants to fight a 40 year old past his use by date tarver or roy jones again a 40 year old ex force........ these fights should have happened years ago when he would have got more credit, now its a case of a long running stay away homeboy fighting guys who should be retired, just to add names to his record and ££££££££ to his bank balence
i'd love hopkins to pull it out the bag one last time but i just get the feeling he'll come up short, joe's got alot in his arsenal
-
Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I'm going for Joe. I've been a fan throughout his career, when this fight was anounced I thought it would be an easy nights work for him, but I always manage to convince myself his opponents are more of a threat than they really are by fight night.
Hopkins is crafty and has a good defence, so I don't think he'll get beat up. Calzaghe he could easily win the rounds from the outside if he wanted to IMO, and I hope that's what he does early to get some rounds in the bank, then let Hopkins come forward out of desoeration. This fight is as hard as Joem Makes it for himself IMO, if he gets involved in a brawl early he could find himself playing catch up for the rest of the fight and playing into B-hops plans, but I think JC has enough experience by now not to panic when things aren't going his way, and I expect him to wina comfortable, but ugly decision.

Re: Who do you think will win, Hopkins or Calzaghe?
I see one outcome. KO by Calzaghe.
Hopkins may have been worked this hard before, maybe not.
But at 43 yerars of age he will not be given any opportunity by Calzaghe to conserve energy.
