Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Hopkins won the fight IMO and he also got exposed for his lack of defense.
-
Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Congrats to calzaghe, i was hoping hopkins would be a bit more active but he wasnt. I picked hopkins if he was to be a little more active then usual but i always knew if he wasnt then calzaghe would win and he did. No spite or anything for me, hopkins should of lost a ud not a sd.

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
I will admit that I've never been a Joe fan.
I didn't think he'd beat Lacy.
I didn't think he'd beat Kess.
I didn't think he'd beat Hopkins.
After he beat Kess, he earned my respect. He showed the skill and class this dudes got. THrowing punches in bunches and fighting like an animal.
For this fight I just thought that Hopkins style was all too wrong for him and that Hopkins with his hug, jab, hug, hug, jab, hug, straigh right miss, hug, lunge, hug style would not allow Joe to do his work.
Now Joe has escalated in my books as one of the best fighters of my generation and he truely deserves the praise. I need to really think about the possible future matchups for him.

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Some of you need to take your head out of you know what...
Just because you were saying Hopkins would win doesnt make you blind to the obvious fact that Calzaghe won......talking to the ray charles above
-
Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Even though I think Calzaghe won, I was more impressed with Hopkins. He is one of the most crafty and skilled fighters of all time. I think the playing out the low blows was because he knew it was a close fight and he wanted Cortez to take a point from Joe. Even though he lost, he was as dirty as ever and as brilliant as ever.

Im not a big fan of either man and i wern't really picking either man to win i was 50-50 on the fight. Hopkins landed the cleaner better blows and won the first 4 rounds clearly IMO and plus lets not forget the 10-8 round, then he won another 2 rounds making it 114-113 to Hopkins.

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
So because b hop hurt cal on two occasions he should have won the fight....right. There is now way you can win a fight only landing half as much as your opponent doesn't matter if they're harder shots or not really.

Calzaghe wasn't landing a whole lot either, most of his punches missed and they wern't as effective as Hopkins punches, if Calzaghe lands 5 slaps and Hopkins lands 1 big right hand, then i think that one big right hand is more effective than 5 slapping punches.

I can't remember the exact rounds but Hopkins for certain won the first 4 rounds IMO, he then won the 11th, and he also won the round where he stunned Calzaghe at the end of the round. You can easily have Hopkins winning 6 rounds.

No way Hopkins was even close to winning that. I distinctly remember you picking Hopkins by decision right before the fight too.;D

No i didn't i said Hopkins by controversial decision, and i also said Calzaghe by decision as well. I changed my mind on the fight plenty of times i didn't favor any boxer. But i seem to remember you saying Calzaghe would dominate this fight and didn't i tell you it would comeback to haunt you ??

First of all no he didn't clearly win the first 4 rounds...The second was a draw at best..the fourth was definitely a Calzaghe round as also mentioned by all commentators as a turning round of the fight.
So a punch at the end that pushes Jc back wins a round? after having been taking combinations throughout it?
And noway did hopkins win the 11th..the guy was tiring all thru the later rounds...
He took 5 mins...i mean a full 5 mins faking a low blow...pathetic really

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Icb then according to your logic paulie should never win a fight cause even his power shots are slaps. I honestly saw calzaghe outhustle hop and beat him at his own dam game at times, I think I even saw frustration in b hop in the 10th round or so. So calzaghe throws 5 and say lands 2 solid, thats still more than bhops 1 for 2. On the inside cal was doin the same shit with his head that b hop does, I just saw cal as the all around better fighter and 116-111 honestly seemed pretty reasonable. Oh and I'm not welsh or anything before I'm accused of bias, ha

Hopkins won the first 4 rounds IMO he did land the much more effective blows in those rounds. And Calzaghe was struggling to get any punches off. Calzaghe did comeback strong and won majority of the rounds after that but i still feel Hopkins did manage to win another 2 rounds after the first 4 rounds, making it 114-113 Hopkins.
Your saying no way this and no way that basically saying your opinion is correct when it isn't. Those rounds were close and i gave them to Hopkins on the cleaner more effective punches. I have my opinion you have yours none of us are wrong because its just an opinion not a fact.

I'm saying noway because if you give hopkins this fight after being outworked, outpunched and outscored then judging a fight must be quite an abstract thing..

So from the top of my head, 2 good punches win a fight? even if there were a couple of 2 good punches a round....they wouldn't win you a fight.

See i hate people like you who try and cause an argument, i actually do boxing and have been watching boxing for a decade. I know how to score fights and i don't appreciate that comment from you, because it really is an easy comeback and all i have to say is you don't know how to score a fight either, but i won't because like i said its just an opinion no one is wrong. Hopkins was out punched but he still landed the more cleaner effective punches and the knockdown gave him the edge in the scoring IMO.

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
It was an ugly fight but I thought Calzaghe clearly won. I gave Hopkins round 1 and rounds 3 & 4.
I'm just glad I didn't have to pay to see it. Hopkins is either old and worn down or lazy as hell. You pick.

wow didn't know you were the only person that boxes around here.....
as I said and as I will repeat..cleaner punches would win you a fight if you were landing the same amount or maybe a couple less a round....but not when the opponent outpunches you by a big margin..which was the case here....IMO

I fixed my original posting. But your final call was indeed a decision by Hopkins. But true you were back and forth on it.
To be honest it was the flash knockdown that stopped Calzaghe winning by a large margin. Two points down after the first and being too cautious in the first four did mean it wasnt a completely dominant performance. The knockdown made him cautious and hesitant for a few rounds.
I dont think it was a particularly close fight though nor one that ended up all that difficult to score. Calzaghe was beginning to dominate down the stretch. That was obvious. He was fresh and coming on more and more. Hopkins wasnt doing very much at all.

Yes i do feel the knockdown did make Calzaghe cautious for a few rounds, he even said after the fight he was being cautious of Hopkins right hand. In the end Calzaghe has got some defensive issues and Hopkins done excellent for a 43 year old man, thats one of the best performances i've ever seen from a 40+ boxer. I feel Hopkins just nicked it based on the knock down but it was very close IMO.

7-5 rounds for Joe.
With round 1, 10-8 for Hopkins.

Wow, respect mate!
You see, this is what i like to see. Someone who changes his mind and takes the evidence before him in order to change his opinion...you sir show you are a true boxing fan and person to come forward and say this:)
I must say with myself, although i thought mayweather would prob beat hatton, ive always disliked floyd, his style and his mouth, after seeing the mayweather performance against hatton i totally changed my mind, (although i didnt doubt him to begin with) but he showed class and showed why he is a top athlete!
The same goes for joe, joe got floored in the first, yet came back and played bhop at his own game yet started showing the master tactician that it wsa joe calzage who will dictate the pace of the fight in the last 7-8 rounds...he played the bhop game and beat him at his own game...he did this in the usa, he landed the most punches on bhop than anyone ever managed to do before and he rocked bhop later on in the fight (10th i think) when bhop had to clinch to save himself during the infighting.
I give respect to hopkins, a great fighter, shows why he is in the hall of fame and a great tactician...but the true champs class shone through on the night and now even people who previously disliked (may still dislike) calzaghe are coming out saying he is the real deal.
I think that calz should fight jones next then a final fight with pavlik in vegas...i think he will beat them both aswell and have fought everyone in the world in his era and beaten everyone, cleaned up and retire 47,0,0!!!
Hate to say it mick but not many people will be like you, they will continue to doubt...even if/when he beats jones and pavlik they will still doubt and hate;)
I dont think theres any point in joe fighting winky or tarver, bhop beat them comprehensively, i cant see what joe has to gain by fighting them at all. If tarver beats dawson (i think he will) then he has a claim i guess to fight calzaghe but i cant see tarver winning this. With winky i think he has been inactive for a while, he got beat by hopkins and drew with taylor, he doesnt have the respect anymore that he used to and would get beat by joe...not much on the plate for joe in that one.
The only matches i see are tarver (if he beats dawson), jones and pavlik.
I see calzaghe winning them all.

Joe Calzaghe IS the p4p king. Manny has to beat David Diaz to regain his throne.

that's exactly how I had it. 116-111 is a horrible score. It was a very close fight that Joe won down the stretch and the idea that he dominated is ridiculous. A lot of writers, the Associated Press, ESPN all had it for Hopkins. I didn't but it was a good close fight.
-
Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
I had it 6-6 with the knockdown deciding the fight, I was dissapointed with Calzaghe, I thought there was no way if they fought at a distance that Calzaghe would be so utterly outclassed. THe rounds he did win were simply because he was the busier fight, He showed no technique or ability to adapt to what B-Hop was doing, I thought even in the rounds he won that it was just because B-Hop wasn't throwing back. I mean B-Hop was so tired he needed that 5 minute break IMO to finish the fight on his feet, and yet Calzaghe couldn't land hardly anything. I just watched B-Hop-RJJ this morning and Roy landed at least twice as many meaningful punches in that fight than Calzaghe did in this fight.
-
Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
I will difinitely doubt him against RJJr and Pavlik.
-
Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Why not doubt him in future fights??.He was not sainted or blessed with divine intervention .He edged a very tight fight where both guys effected each much.Been known to happen.Joe had a hard time adjusting and looked aloof at times, but he was able to find his flow with volleys and step up the pace down the stretch.Hopkins movement and technique had him in front early but he waited around too much in the late rounds, looked fatigued last few rounds.Cortez was more suited to officiate an Amateur contest last night, far too intrusive and over bearing..affecting both fighters. They fought,Joe won on my card by a nik.Sorry, but it really is that simple. How many threads are there right now on this...7,8,etc.Need coffee
Jeez,Just checked front page at 2;56 pm Orleans time.........21 threads on the fight

Re: Anyone Want To Doubt Joe Calzaghe Again??
Calzhage showed he's a great fighter and stole it in the lat round I gave it to him by two. But he showed he's no legend and a prime smashes him. hopkins
