hows it going james thomas? it depends like do you mean for training? cuz im 16 and for training right now i use 16oz gloves but when i get the money will move up to 18 or 20 oz gloves. or do you mean for fights cuz there i think you would use lighter gloves 10oz or 12oz maybe even 8 but don't qoute me on the fight ones still figuring that part out. but good luck
its for training
im guna try and get a pair of 16oz gloves
iz there differant sozes or do they all just come in 1 size?
im 16 but i only weigh around 120...so i prolly weigh as much as a 13 yr old......Go to ringside.com.........go to gloves......order (medium) sized....here are my exact ones and i Love em.....perfect for bad work/sparring.....http://ringside.com/store/prodinfo_b...tem=7&mitem=69
i baught this speed ball and the think to puut it up with but they dident have a board to put it up in. shoud i build it my self and than u guys know how :P or just go buy one i just cant find the been looking in many stores down here in sweden approximatly what they cost...(and if u know witch ones are the best if its important) :P
Just get two L shaped metal shelf brackets and a board of timber for on the top of the brackets. Drill the swivel bracket (that they gave you) into the centre of the board.
Fix it to your wall.
make sure you get the correct height.
OR make a backing board so its adjustable if different height people are going to use it.
Make sure the top board is big enough so that you dont smack your knuckles onto the edge when punching, make the top board big enough so its above your head, not in front of it.
It depends on how big you are and how hard you hit...I am a superheavyweight and wear 14oz. gloves to hit the bag and I guess 16-20oz for sparring I have to buy some of my own soon, I am wondering what type to buy as well...ask your trainer or a guy at the gym you go to
Alright i'm currently 6' 220lb with a 100lb heavy bag. I plan just to use the bag to do some sort of aerobic exercises, to take the place of some of my running or gym workouts, i don't plan to be a boxer; I have handwraps from everlast, but are they necessary for the exercises that i want to do? I know that it is necessary for proper methods are the ones at http://www.boxinggyms.com/tips/handwraps.htm adequate? My last question is; right now i just punch the thing, trying to use proper form, but is there some sort of work out video tailored more to what i intend to use the bag for?
Thanks

Recomendations for a beginner who is 11 years old please
which brand you take is personal preference but size I think about 12-14 OZ
something well padded and recommended by the relevant countries amateur boxing association.
what is the best make
Hey Banjo, have your folks take you to a sporting goods store, check out the boxing section and try some gloves on, you want to make sure you find a pair of gloves that are just a little loose, keeping in mind that you need to wear handwraps (That's like a long bandage boxers wear around their hands for protection)
Everlast and Title are good brands, just make sure you find a glove that fits you, and is well padded. I recommend you get a 14oz+ to be safe.
Sparring/Training gloves tend to have more padding, and Competition gloves have less, for now I suggest that you get sparring gloves for now, you can get competition gloves when you are ready to beat someone up.

How much does a heavy bag cost? I'm looking to get one for my house. Just asking the price range for on of them.
well looking in a title mag i saw some nice 70lb ones for under a hundred and some of the bigger 170s for round 200$.but also look on ebay or half.com they may have some for cheaper
I have to ask - why haven't you had a look on the net before posting a thread asking how much they cost?
trying to keep the place tidy. 8)
Are you talking to me?Quote:

Hey everyone,
Me and a handful of friends want to start boxing this summer. None of us have any experience, and we want to get some gloves and headgear so we can start up a mini-league for the summer. Somone suggested that we get 16oz gloves, but I wanted some second opinions.
We're all between 150 and 185 pounds, if that helps. Can anyone recommend any good brands that don't cost toooo much, but that are good and reliable??? Thanks a lot!

all depends where you live.
you dont think you might be jumping the gun alittle by starting a leauge when you dont even know how to box? however enthusiasm is good so keep it up.
the best makes are title, everlast, BBE. however they can get a bit costy. i personally spar with 12oz gloves, cause 16 are like wearing cushions, you can hardly feel the punch. my gloves are made by blitz and they are the best i have ever owned. ive had them for about 3 years and they have gone through nearly every training session without tearing once. i even use them on the bags (sometimes, when the wrists are a bit tender).
good luck, try a gym before you start backwary boxing. if you live in england give me a shout, ill conme down and kick yo asses :D
hey thanks a lot for responding!
yea, haha by "league" i just mean like 8 of us beating the crap out of eachother, and maybe having a little tournament at the end of the summer. i just found a good little gym near me, so maybe i'll go check that out.
...i've also been reading books, watching it on tv, and shadow boxing...hahaha, so i'm learning a little.
we'll probably go with 14oz for now...and yea, i'm from the US. i live in syracuse, ny.
also, any recommendations about fight length? we were thinking 3 rounds for now, since we're not in tip-top shape and don't have any experience. whats an average round length....3 minutes??
thanks!
nah man, go by amatuer competiton rules. 4 2 mintue rounds.
3 mins are reserved for the pros, and you need at least 4 rounds to make the scores!
dont forget your wraps!!, and mouthguard!!
get heavy gloves, they will feel your punches when you get more skilled.
but it does helps them to get less injury
i train with 18oz, better for training (speed endurance power) you will notice this when you put on your competition gloves.
so it is better for both!!!!
i would call off that league since you all will not be experienced by this summer. and prob will end up
with big injury.
the worst thats gonna happen is a broken nose...BoohooQuote:

broken ribs suck some serious ass. my trainer broke my ribs with a focus mitt, and made me finish the round!
damn that must been a very long round with a broken rib.Quote:

cuz a friend had his rib broken during some full-sparring, and at the ER they told him
it was good he quit the training session cuz a blow on a broken rib can (i think the chances are small)
cause your lung to burst, (dunno englisch word). and that would made bigger problems
some folk just want to do it old school or they might have thought he was trying to quit.
we had a sign at my old gym. which sort of went - I don't want to hear your excuses because I've used them all before. He was an ex-boxer.
we have a sign on the wall in my gym saying failure to prepare = prefapre to failQuote:
