CFH is a very happy man today, here's why:

Hey kids, I'm fucking stoked. I just found out that I got accepted into an archaeological field school, starting in June. I didn't think I had a prayer of being accepted, but somehow it happened, thank God.
I'll be living on an island in the middle of nowhere for 6 weeks excavating an old Native village and while I am not exactly stoked about having to shit in an outhouse for 6 weeks, I'm very happy to be participating in this. Field schools are the most important components of one of the degrees I am working on (the other is history). There were only 15 spots available and the folder containing the applications was about 3 inches think, filled with them, so I didn't think I had much of a chance, but I know the Prof. running it, and I got the chair of the dept. at my school to write me a letter of reference, so I guess it paid off.
I just wanted to tell some people about it; my first thought was that I wish I could tell my mom about it, but that's not possible, so I called my grandma and then came on here since all my friends (all 2 of 'em) are at work at real jobs.

Thanks man, I'm really excited. It's going to cost a ton of cash because I won't be able to work while I'm there, obviously, but it'll be worth it.

This will probably make me sound like a complete wimp, but I can't stand horror movies. I like thrillers though.

No, there won't be internet access. I'll probably be able to post an update on here earlier in August as we have the Aug. long weekend off and I think I'll use it to visit my sister who lives somewhat nearby.

Congrats, money is over rated anyway, you enjoy yourself.

Good going bud.Best of luck .I use to have a fascination with archeology and excavation.we would go out to the Fields when I lived in Virginia and go metal detector crazy....Found buttons,Belt buckles,musket balls galore and a Broken saber.We never stopped to think of the ones that took there last breath there.....Really takes you a back.

Make the most of the oppurtunity and absorb like a sponge ;D

This is really great news CFH. Hopefully this will be just the thing you need to help take you out of yourself for a few weeks.

Plus you'll be essentially doing what you want to do for a career so will get a real taster for it.

It should be a great experience mate.

How's your girlfriend been with you going away, will you still get a chance to see her during the digs or will you be apart for the whole 6 weeks?
