Well I don't think Calzaghe is much of a factor anymore. I don't think Froch has any success once he decides to step up. I would love to see him and Andrade. It's a fairly deep division with no clear set number 1 and I think Taylor is going to step in and I would rate him as the favorite to take this division.
I would love to see him and Kessler go at it. I would give Taylor the edge in that one but certainly one I would love to see. Bute has looked good at times then looked bad. He is versatile but not sure how good he is yet.
I do know this though.

I think 168 could be Taylor's division. He has the skills to take it and I've never liked the extreme amount of criticism he has taken, I thought people were to harsh on him. Calzaghe looked no better against Hopkins then Taylor did yet Taylor got CRUSHED over those fights then for a few fights after that.
You guys will laugh at me, but I think he will be the man to beat there.
Taylor could be the best but could he beat Kessler or even Froch those would be good fights. He has enough to be a champ but I would love him to fight Miranda.
I think Taylor lost it a bit upstairs (for boxing).
He'll never be any easy fight for anyone, but I don't see him doing much in boxing anymore.
Taylor vs Lacy. That would be fun.
You said it. Everytime I talk about Lacy people tend to think I'm delusional because I still feel he can become something. So as hard as it was to resist, didn't mention him in this topic. But you hit the nail on the head here. I've been wanting since they were both prospects from that 04 US amateur class.
And yes, that would be very fun and I have no idea who wins, would tip Taylor but that would be a great fight that could get them both going on the right track no matter how the fight turns out. Great fight I really hope we see that one day when they're not old.
amat - sorry pal, went to send you a PM on dzindiruk but wont allow me to do so until my post count reaches 30 :eek:
I honestly think taylor is tailor made (no pun intended) for SM and possibly even LH, His style will be much more suited fighting at a slightly slower pace and his ability to counter punch will be far more effective.
Lacy seems a different fighter ever since he got out boxed by calzaghe, now fights with a much more tentative approach than before and seems to of lost that confidence.
Also 2 fights in 2 years?? the guy is pushing 30 has no world titles to his name nor has he beaten any names!!
Taylor every day of the week wins this one for me!!
Personally, I think with Calzaghe almost certain to be getting rid of his belts pretty soon, so there's going to beplenty of opportunities to get a hold of one. If Taylor can get a decent win over someone half decent in the division and talk the good talk, then I see no reason for him not to be in contention for one of the vacant titles.
He's not exactly Arturo Gatti when it comes to excitement, but he'll do fine in the division I'm sure.
Is that guy still alive?! Cause I completely doubt that!! If he is, he has to be a vegetable...
...REP for making me jump up from a lying down position!
I absolutely agree! The slower pace will suit Taylor. Plus, the doesn't have to maintain a lower weight because he's been complaining about making 160 so hopefully his stamina will increase.
Pavlik isn't exactly a normal fighter either. I see Pavlik being very dangerous up to Light Heavy and if Taylor can hang in there with him, people in Super Middle won't seem so bad...
I think Taylor will do quite well at SMW. Discounting Calzaghe, because he's only going to chase the big money fights, I'd favor Taylor against everyone Lefty mentioned except Kessler and maybe Bute. I think he'd handle Froch, Miranda, Andrade (that fight would look like Kessler-Andrade IMO), Lacy, etc.
i hope he does well, he deserves it.
I think Taylor will do very well at SMW.
He just has to maintain space and work on his defense...he gets in trouble when he lets the other fighter in close.
I think his style could bother Kessler honestly. Kessler's at his best with a come forward guy like Andrade but to be fair he did pretty well against Mundine too.
I'd like to see him fight Andrade. I don't think his people would be that interested in it but it would be interesting to see how he held up against Andrade's pressure, physically and mentally.
Bute over Berrio is just nasty. That's gotta be one of the most vicious things I've seen since Mercer/Morrison. Too bad Bute doesn't really hit as hard as he looks there.
I would like to see him face Mundine.
I don't see him doing well period.
I'm sure he'll be around and that's due to the name...
The one thing that's always stood out for me and is one of the 1st things that comes to mind is JT himself saying he wanted to retire young and that there was no one for him to fight.
Well becareful what you wish for, early retirement might be right around the corner. :)
I think adding JT to the mix at 168 is a good idea for him and the division as a whole. I don't think he could beat everyone there, but he could make a definate impression if he decides to go for the upper level guys right away. I would love to see him fight Bute, Kessler or Mundine.
I wouldn't mind him taking one fight as a warm up, like Manfredo Jr. or Lacy. Either on of those guys should bring out the best in JT.
I think taylor will do well at super middle. I think he can get hold of a belt at least.
I dont think he appeals to calzaghe to fight him because calzaghe can command a much higher paid fight with a fighter like pavlik or jones for his last say 2 fights. If they fought then id say calzaghe would beat taylor.
Taylor would probably take out bute imo.
Hed do well against andrade and mundine aswell, id say hed beat them both.
The hardest opponent would be against kessler. If kessler brings his best game then i think kessler will beat taylor. I think kessler is a better all round fighter. Kessler could handle most fighters out there tbh, its just that calzaghe had too much ring craft and can adapt to anyone in the ring which made him almost impossible for kessler to beat. But against taylor it would be a very evenly fought match but id say kessler wins.
I think that when calzaghe gives up his belts and retires after he beats jones and pavlik, then it will be upto taylor and kessler to battle out for top spot at super middle.
HOWEVER!!! Supermiddle might become very VERY interesting in the next couple of years.
Look at it this way:
Calzaghe beats jones at light heavy and then has one last fight with pavlik at super middle in a title defence. He casts aside pavlik and then retires undefeated. BUT this leaves pavlik at super middle aswell, afterall pavlik has done everything he can at middle weight (providing he beats lockett and abraham which i think he will). He will have fougt calzaghe at super middle and lost, this leaves him stranded at super middle. He is still young so he surely will carry on boxing?
We might be seeing pavlik, miranda, taylor, bute, andrade, mundine and kessler all in THE SAME DIVISION AT THE SAME TIME!!!
This would make for a very exciting division, surely everyone must agree?
Jeremaine Taylor can do as well as he wants at Super Midleweight.
His otential is virtually limitless if he remedies his Zab Judah syndrome.
I personally don't see Joe beat Pavlik. Yea Joe has an amazing work rate but Pavlik's work rate is just as active but the difference is, Pavlik's punches HURT! I don't think Joe has ever encountered a fighter like Pavlik. It would be a great fight, but Pavlik wins by late KO IMO.
But I agree on Joe beating Jones...
I think Taylor will be a big factor assuming he has his head together after the 2 losses to Pavlik...Assuming the Taylor of old who would go in and box smart while not going in and doing just enough to eek out a win is the version of Taylor that arrives in the division he should be one of the top guys...
He will need to be focused because the top guys in the division have solid jaws and these will be fights Taylor has to go the distance each time out
I think Taylor fought the way he did against Pavlik the first time because he had something to prove. Which was why I thought he was willing to trade. The second time around with
Pavlik, I thought Taylor would've won the fight if he didn't slow down so much in the later rounds. The way he fought Pavlik the second time would be a great way to fight at supermiddle weight, with the exception of slowing down at the end.
