Want to help a deployed Saddo Member?

Howdy guys and greetings from Baghdad. My unit is doing well. I'm posting b/c I've been trying in vain to get a Heavy Bag w/gloves shipped out here so we can do some training in our down time. If any of yall would like to help support the troops here in my unit we would really appreciate it. I'm looking for a heavy big with frame, b/c there is no place to hang it from the ceiling and a set of gloves. I've emailed several boxing equip manufacturers soliciting a donation but none have returned my msg. I understand that this is a large item and the shipping is expensive so this may very well be in vain. We appreciate any help. Thanks alot

Van, this is a great thing and I'm going to talk to my English teacher about trying to help you out. She does a lot of gift basket type things and she's very good about getting companies to donate stuff. So I will most certainly get back to you tomorrow once I've talked to her and we'll see what can be done. She's very very experienced with this type of stuff. Will update this tomorrow and let you know either way.

Hey Van, talked to my teacher today and she really thinks we could do this. At the very least we could at least get you gloves and mits. We're meeting afterschool on Thursday and we're going to make a bunch of phonecalls to a bunch of different places that could help you in getting stuff. She is going to reach out to people she knows in doing this before to try to lessen shipping costs as well as getting anyone who wants to donate a write off.

I'm going to put together a list of everyone I can think of who would be able to help from manufacturers to suppliers and in addition to calling corporate we are going to call a bunch of local businesses such as gyms and stuff. So far I've thought of Everlast, Big 5, Dicks Sporting Goods, Sports Authority ect. Any suggestions help also.

If none of that works we can put out ads for donation but we are pretty confident that we will get plenty of offers for donation. I'll update again Thursday.

OK Van so made some calls today and right off the bat, Everlast was very friendly and gave me the email address of the person who would be able to help. I wrote out the letter there, and have just sent it off about 10 minutes ago. The person I spoke to on the phone was very certain that they would be able to help out. At this point I am going to wait for a reply to the email, most of the store chains referred me to Everlast or Titleboxing and they seem to be the proper route. Will update when I get a reply.

Hopefully Amat will be able to help you buddy. I don't know if you could contact Don King's website?

He's always televising himself with the American heroes in Iraq and trying to make out he's looking out for them. See if he will send you some boxing equipment?

Good stuff Amat,The frame seems like it might be difficult.What about your Duffle bag/Sea Bags packed up in the interim?Not pretty but they might be pretty usefull.Gloves.....hmm?

At least with the heavy bag it shouldn't cost too much, as most likely you can receive it empty and fill with sand... You should get some pads too as they are great for teaching newbies how to throw jabs etc and get others into the sport...

Just a thought but if you can't get a bag why not just string up a couple of Iraqi's? Then just order some gloves to protect your hands.

I just sent in a email request to Don King, and asked for his help, and it says that I should get a response in 24 to 48 hours. So hopefully, I will be getting some good news for you.

I know he said he wants to pratice boxing, but they could all use sticks in this case.. :)

I don't know if this helps but Everlast Boxing is great with stuff like that...If you email them and give the same info you gave here (Your ID Unit etc)...and tell them the situation they have been known in the past to donate overstock items and discontinued item shipping included as long as it is something they can verify...I know they have done it for dozens of small amateur boxing clubs with limited funding I don't see why they would not help out with some of our finest...
