Kermit Cintron: "Margarito Will Stop Cotto"

Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron is going against his countryman on July 26. Rather than go with his Puerto Rican countryman, Miguel Cotto, Cintron is picking Antonio Margarito to win by knockout.

“Do I want Cotto to win?” Cintron told The Reading Eagle. “Yes, he’s from the same country that I’m from. But a fighter like Margarito, he took every shot that I threw at him. Cotto is going to have a hard time in there with him. I think Margarito will stop Cotto.”

Margarito handed Cintron the only two losses of his career - both by knockout. The last defeat was on April 12, when Margarito stopped Cintron with a bodyshot in the sixth-round to capture the IBF welterweight title. Cintron wants to return in September after a minor operation to fix a torn ligament in his right hand.

“I’ll be in the gym training even harder than I did before,” Cintron said. “Plus, I still have the motivation. I have my wife Maria, (daughters) Denali and Savannah, and a son on the way. That’s a lot of motivation right there. I’ll definitely be back.”

He 'hopes' Margarito stops Cotto so that he doesn't look as bad! Fortunately for Miguel, he has a lot more mental strength than Cintron and should be able to deal with the threat that is the Tijuana Tornado.

Citron needs a heart transplant. Soon as he realizes it ain't gonna be a cakewalk, he starts to look scared.

This "Cotto will be stopped' is kinda pathetic if you ask me.

Like they say,... "if you can't beat 'em,.. just join them".

That's a natural thing for Cintron to say about his conquerer.

This is all politics.....#1 If Tony wins Kermit was right and no true harm done and Kermit feels better because he's not the only guy who would have been fucked up by Tony#2 If Cotto wins then he COULD take acception to Kermit's words therefore ensuring another title fight for Kermit Cintron.


Kermit is just hoping he can get a shot in the future

Actually I too believe Margarito will TKO Cotto late in a fast paced Fight.

A must see for sure but Cotto I think is on a step above. I can understand where Cintron comes from but also on another level. I'm 50% rican 50% mexican. ITS GONNA BE A WAR my body hurts now just thinking about the way these two great champs work down stairs. Love them both

Not surprise to hear Cintron say that. He doesn't look as bad if Margarito manages to knock out Cotto

Cintron should move up to 154 and stop worryin bout the welterweights.
He could wreak havoc up there and is a BIG 147 lber anyway. Plus no matter what he can't beat Margarito, so thats kinda fucked.

Cintron is crazy. Cotto beats Margarito EASY. I've said it before. He will beat Margarito easy. Margarito will go straight at Cotto which is will be his downfall, don’t play drinking games with an alcoholic. You will lose.

I predict Cintron no matter who he fights next, will cry like someone stole his ice cream as soon as he gets hit hard, pull a white towel out of his shorts and throw it in himself.

the fact that margarito dominated him makes him think that margarito must be great, but thats because cintron actually thinks he is decent...

I'm surprised Cintron could speak through the tears that always seem to be pouring down his face.

This will be no cake walk for Cotto that's for sure. He will have to fight 3mins of every rd and will not get to relax and fight at his own pace as he's used too, and will not be fighting semi shot, small welters like Mosley and Judah, and overmatched guys like Gomez. He will be fighting a 5'11 full fledged in your face welter in A. Margarito. Cotto will have to fight the fight of his life during the 2nd half vs MAgarito if wants to win it because this fight will come down to conditioning and heart because he doesn't possess the legs and natural talent to move on his toes like williams did to beat Margarito. I see Cotto starting strong and looking sharp in the 1st half of the fight then fading in the 2nd half due to the pressure and size of Margarito and possibly getting ko'd late. Just a thought.

I think cotto's a league above magarito and thats no disrespect to magarito. Its not going to be a easy night for cotto to say the least as we know magarito's tough as nailz, should be a good 1.

Margarito and Andrade remind me of each other. I like both of these fighters. They take everything you have and then proceed to stalk you and beat you down, little by little.

I doubt Cotto will try to beat margarito with one punch

One thing, I think for sure is.... after the fight, both fighters will "lose something" when they leave the ring. Both are tough, rugged, SOBs.

I see that Cintron seems to have Complexity now , he speaks like be Jealous of someone , in the beginning of second the fight when he were talking in the conferences , he commented once that Margarito didn't going defeat him again and either to Cotto , he said something first and now after a month he said another thing ...............:-\

Not surprising but Cotto's a whole different thing than Cintron. If you can walk through Cintron's punch and keep coming at him he'll fold. Bit like Judah in that respect.

When you get bitcch-slapped twice by the same guy, it's only natural that you elevate your conqueror to God-like status. I'm not saying that Cotto will have an easy time against Margarito, but...

Whereas I used to not want Kermit and Cotto to meet in the ring, now I wouldn't mind seen Cotto take Kermit apart at some point in the future.

Margarito is Dangerous and Maybe will stop Cotto,Peace.

He is just mad he got his ass whooped by him and he is building him up to be all of that and a bag of chips. I think Cotto knocks him out inside of 10.

I think it was my man Macho that said that Cintron has proved himself a hypocrite, stating that Margarito would never beat any of the top Puerto Rican's and now claiming that he would beat Cotto with ease.


Cintron is a fantastic physical specimen, it is his mentality that let's him down. This same lack of fortitude demands that he compensates for his loss by reasoning that Margarito is a great fighter, that simply could not have been beaten.
In reality Cotto, win lose or draw against Margarito, is made of significantly stronger stuff than Cintron. In July you can be assured that if Cotto is to lose, he will go down in a bloody mess and to the very end will be looking to ahnialate Margarito himself. Should Cotto walk away the victor, you can be certain he will be humble respectful and amiable as always.

Cintron may serve well as a sparring partner for Cotto, but in truth, he's not in the same class, purely because of the weakness of his will.

Man I am really excited about this fight. I really want Margarito to win. He is such a nice guy, a real throwback fighter. His resume is awesome. Paul Williams, clottey, Cintron twice, Golden Johnson. I don't think he will beat Cotto, but I sure hope so. (and I really like Cotto), but he has been elevated to superstar status while Margarito has been shuffled to the level of fringe contender and i think he deserves a little more than that.

I think Cotto also passed any relentless test of pressure at 147 when he fought Mosley. Shane pressured him far more intelligently than Margarito is capable of, and has more power, is far faster, and has a granite jaw himself which Cotto wasn't able to dent. I just can't for the life of me see Margarito presenting a bigger challenge to Cotto than Mosley did.

I did say he could give Cotto Problems , i don tthink he can beat him.

Cintron is only giving Cotto a little extra motivation. Just one Rican helping out another.

I think Cintron is praying that Margarito wins, that way it will look as if he's only been defeated by the 2nd best welter in the world (Floyd being the 1st).

But IMO Cotto will dispatch Margarito & prove that although Cintron is a great puncher he'll never be a great fighter!
