Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Im intrested to see what everybodys favourite fighters are...
for me its...
1) Carl Froch- sheer exciment from start to finish he brings the pace and I love seeing him run his mouth and backing it up in the ring. His knockouts are brutal and hes going places this year.
2) Ricky Hatton- I've watched him for such a long time now and he never fails to impress me. I remember wanting to see him beat KT and him doing it was something else. His body punching and character is what I love seeing. His left hooks to the body are so sweet to watch and I rate him as one of the best in the world as this momment in time.
3) Mike Tyson- He was the reason I got into boxing, his knockouts and boxing abilities for me are outstanding. I remember watching some of his fights when i was younger and thinking omg I want to be a boxer. I think He will be in most peoples list, hes just a class character.

Marco Antonio Barrera - Always be his biggest fan . Amazing fighter . He could do everthing . Also starred in teh best fight ever but what made me a follower was his attitude. He was like nobody else. He really had a no s**t way of thinking and the way he'd hit people at press conferences and treat guys in the ring fiercely just made hima great charcter to watch.
Lennox Lewis - Beat every guy he ever fought. Made a career out of beating the best and he usually did it with ease. Scored some great K.O's and again his arrogance was actually a good thing cuz it made it entertaining . Great Jab , great power and could have made it in any era.
Evander Holyfield - It was tough to pick a 3rd place but at the mo id say evander for his legedary career . As a cruiserweight he was unrivaled. Crazy talent ! But what made him so likeable was his heart and ability to prove the doubters wrong . Alaways in good fights and never took the easy route. Great man !

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Smokin Joe - Just for putting his Ali on his ass in super sweet fashion.Best left hook ive ever seen.
Oscar De La Hoya - Only in the last year ive made the effort to watch all his career but the Golden Boy is my favorite fighter. So brutal.
Sonny Liston - Liston was just a bad motherfucka. Sweetest Jab.

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Thomas Hearns- Champion in the WW/SWW/MW/LHW divisions when every division was pretty much stacked...He was fast as a cat and hit like a bull....He had heart and with his suspect chin it could be over any second for him...With is power every shot he threw he could end the fight for his opp....Tommy was also a class act outside the ring
Lennox Lewis- He hit like a freight train...He could box with the best in history, He was confident boardering on arrogant at times but always showed the world why he could afford that luxery....In his only 2 losses he did what a champion should and rematched taking a win with twice the style in which he lost
After that I really don't have a particular third....I am big fans of,
Duran, Pryor, Arguello, Hagler, Tyson, Holyfield, Jones and a few more...all on an equal level

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
i only truly have one favourite fighter and that is Bernard Hopkins.

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Ali - Fought and beat the best. Every time they wrote him off this beautiful athlete proved them wrong. Like him or loath him 99.9% of people rate him as either the best or second best heavyweight ever. Add to that the way he shaped a nation and you have an idyllic figure that transcended his sport.
Ray Robinson - If there's a God and he created the perfect fighter then it's Ray. The guy was simply the best P4P fighter ever. If I need to say any more... then you need to be on a different type of forum....
Ray Leonard/Roberto Duran/Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns - I can't split these guys up - the fights they gave us against each other are a part of my life and will stay with me forever.
Honourable mentions - Lennox brought some pride back to heavy's in Britian. Naz - for the wild ride and then ultimatley the crash and burn. Nigel Benn - balls of steel - watch the McClellan fight, despite the tragic end, few fighters can take that kind of pain and punishment and come back. Nigel was virtually unconcious outside the ring in the first round. Awesome.
Special mention - Peter Buckley and fighters like him... with out the nearly and never was you'd never know the great !!!

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
I can't name just three, but I'll list some of my all time favorites:
Felix Trinidad - (no explanations needed)
Alexis Arguello -
The best to come out of Nicaragua. He was a classic puncher-boxer, with tremendous power in his beautifully thrown right hands. Not only was he a joy to watch in the ring, but it was hard to find a classier individual outside the ring. A credit to boxing.
Marco Antonio Barrera -
True warrior cut in the classic Mexican mold. His demolition of Prince Naseem Hamed made me an instant fan for life.
Wilfredo Benitez -
In his peak, the "Radar of St. Just" brought a lot of glory to our little island of Puerto Rico. He was a defensive master, and the youngest world title holder at 17 years of age.
Thomas Hearns -
There weren't too many decisions in his fights. The guy was a walking highlight reel. He had classic fights with Leonard, Hagler, and a handful of other great fighters.
(pre-mental breakdown) Mike Tyson -
No fancy robes or kinky entrance music. Just an appetite for blood. I used to love (and cringe) when his left hooks lifted him off his feet. Couldn't go to the bathroom after the bell rang, or you'd miss the whole fight.
Miguel Cotto -
Still some mega fights in his future... but this guy is the real deal. He comes to fight. No trash-talking, no hot-dogging in the ring. Just pure, unadulterated violence. Another fighter who brings credit to our little island.
Ricardo "Finito" Lopez -
Awesome puncher from Mexico. Another unassuming, classy fighter.
Kelly Pavlik -
The type of fighter you can really rally around. Fearless, exciting, and a hard puncher. He's another warrior who I think has even greater days ahead of him. I also like the fact that he's a humble guy.
I'm sure I've forgotten a few, but those are some of my favorites, past and present.

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Its hard to just put 3 fav fighters of all time but it would go something like
this
MUHAMMAD ALI, for me ali had it all i think in his prime he would have beaten any heavyweight from any era (yes even tyson for all you tyson fans) the only one that might have given him trouble would have been jack johnson but ali usually finds away to win
even tho i think he was lucky on some of his fights towards the end ie jimmy young fight but the garbage fighter would give anyone trouble,WHAT A SPOILER LOL.
SUGAR RAY LEONARD, for me because i just think he would have beaten alot of fighters before and after him the two fighters today that i think leonard could of beaten and i also think are the two best around today
would be mayweather jr and cotto, i think his great to watch also just a shame he never fought aaron pryor the greatest two fisted fighter of all time and i mean all time.
EVANDER HOLYFIELD, i like holyfield the best at cruiserweight the qawi fight for me is one of the best in boxing history he always comes to fight
i think as a heavyweight he wasnt as good or after 1990 even tho he has one the title 4 times.the bowe fights for me were his best at heavy i also
like the michael dokes fight his second as a heavyweight
other fav fighters would be
LARRY HOLMES

CutMM... you could be a boxing historian writer if you wanted.
Mine are:
Muhammad Ali & ERIK "TERRIBLE" MORALES!!!!
I can't think of any other fighter I love as much as those guys.
But I'm an avid reader of boxing and spectator. B-)

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Umm, from the past definitely Whitaker. I was a little kid in Norfolk, VA when Whitaker was in his prime or at least at the peak of his popularity.
In Kindergarten he visited my school, was very cool. Been a fan since. Other then that I have a bunch of different fighters I like but I don't shamelessly root for one regardless of who they are fighting with to many fighters.
Jeff Lacy
Winky Wright
Probably my 3 favorite active fighters along with a ton others. I like a lot of fighters but wouldn't classify myself as a fan as that tends to have a stigma. "Hatton fans", "Mayweather fans" "Pac fans" all have some stigma to them. So I try to steer away from but there are a ton of fighters I like and silently root for.

Armstrong
Saad Muhammad, Tyson (loved watching these two)

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Kostya Tszyu
Marco Antonio Barrera
Tyson or Hamed 3rd because they both got me interested in boxing in the first place.
Bit off topic but the most exiting thing about boxing (for me anyway) was learning who fighters are. You see a guy beat your guy, then you see who that guy beat before he beat your guy, then you see who beat the guy that beat your guy after/before he beat your guy.......and so on......before you know it you have 2000 DVD's of career sets.
I don't know what I would do without boxing. Anyone else ever think that?
There is a thread about "are you afraid of dying?"
I'm afraid that if I die I will miss great fights!
-
Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?

1 Thomas Hearns.
2. Roy Jones.
3. Ray Robinson.

I'm exactly the same... I'd end up going so far back into different careers I'd forget who I was looking at in the first place ;D.
Before I started boxing I was afraid that I'd be no good, while I was boxing early on I was afraid that I might not get better, when I hit my peak I was afraid how long it would last, when I got injured I was afraid it was over, when I came back I was afraid it would happen again, when it happened again.... I thought feck it time for some guinness and maybe time to look at coaching ;)
A lot of worry but I wouldn't change a day of it. Boxing is like a disease that I got infected with when I was about 12 and there's no cure.

nope... and i like that better....
the only reson he lost his last fight was cuz they had just put that rule into play and he knocked the guy down for like 14 seconds but didnt get in the corner right away cuz he forgot about it..

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
Its really hard for me to narrow it down to 3 guys because I literally have about 50 favorite fighters, but here it goes...
1. James Toney - He was the full package and terribly underrated IMO. He could box, punch, and fight on the inside as well as anyone. Slick defensive skills meshed with a legitamite mean streak and disdain for his opponents. A lot of people don't like his brash attitude, but personally I find it hilarious. Never ducked anyone, fought the best/toughest guys from middleweight all the way to heavyweight. Tough as nails and one of the best chins of all time imo.
2. Roy Jones - Got me into boxing. There was never anyone like Roy and there'll never be anyone like Roy. I've been watching his fights since I got into boxing 4 years ago, and it still boggles my mind today the stuff that he could do in the ring. One of the greatest.
3. Roberto Duran - Loved his mean streak, and that "win at all costs" attitude. Fantastic fighter, hard not to love Duran.

Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
good responses, thank you very much :)
-
Re: Your three favourite fighters of all time?
If it was just three,
Ali - Had a big mouth but backed it up. He beat the best fighters in his era.
Sugar Ray Leonard - Again, beat the best fighters in his era.
Pacquiao - Exciting fighter and great resume.
