Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
I just posted that Floyd wouldnt have stopped Forbes either on Saturday so we neednt be too harsh on Oscar as the only guy I think could have stopped Steve was Cotto and thats only a maybe .
Then it got me thinking , how would have Hatton handled Steve . I know Steves has good speed and a great chin cuz he took alot from De La Hoya . I dont think Ricky would have lasted 12 with Oscar .
Forbes given the right superfight infront of him may be able to score a great win . As Ive said I think Cotto would have him , so would Floyd . Mosley would too and Oscar already has but Ricky Hatton is 1 high profile fighter Forbes might be able to beat
What do you think ? Consensus guys ?

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Hatton by UD, it's all about workrate. Forbes is pretty slick has good eyes and good defense, but he's a tad trigger shy. Even if he blocked everything Hatton threw, the judges would have to go with Hatton for effective aggression because Forbes would be hardly throwing anything back.

I thought Hatton on points but wouldnt it be just like the Colazzo fight. If Hatton has any more close 1s I dont think he will get any favours off the judges now. Magee wasnt known as a particularly hard hitter but he gave Hatton nightmares with his speed. I just think if Forbes had a pick of a superfight with a realistic chance he should go for Ricky . Zab Judah is a another big name I think Forbes might beat . Hes there for the taking IMO .

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Intersting fight certainly.. And would be good to see Forbes in another high profile fight where he isn't a pawn. Guess I'd have to agree with the other posters that a Hatton UD is most likely due to Ricky outworking Forbes, however if Stevie fought more of a hit and run fight and tried to potshot Hatton he may fair better. I can't really say as I guess I've never seen Hatton against a good opponent who employed that tactic.. Mayweather and Collazo both stayed in the pocket with him for the most part, or at least did the most damage inside. If Hatton fights Malignaggi and is able to consistently cut off the ring and do good work I'd have to give Forbes very little chance. Do think that Paulie will give Hatton a ton of problems if they fight though, especially if Hatton can't get into top form anymore, he may really struggle with slick boxers, even less than elite level ones.

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Considering Forbes has been used by Hatton as a sparring partner.. if they ever fight put your HOUSE on Hatton ;)

I don't agree that it would be like the Collazo fight because Luiz is a southpaw and works from the jab much more than Forbes, plus Luis is naturally bigger.

but why exactly would an established champion like hatton opt to fight a steve forbes when their are much bigger paydays out there for much easier work!!
I give lazcano slim to none to beat hatton, i give malinaggi a fighters chance but no more than that and i expect that hatton will stop him late on.
As for steve forbes vs ricky hatton = a hard fought grinding UD for hatton that offers nothing but more questions about whether he is now a spent force and should consider hanging up his gloves.

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Hatton would decision Forbes. He's too fast and relentless and Forbes just doesn't throw enough or have the power to keep Hatton off of him.

I'd be interested to hear why you think Hatton could stop Malignaggi when Cotto couldn't?

It's not as if Hatton has an endless number of big paydays to choose from though.. 140 is actually a pretty scarce division at the moment. I also wouldn't be surprised if based solely on his fight against Oscar this weekend, Forbes brought a bigger payday to the table than anyone else at 140 besides Ricky. I mean Malignaggi has very little drawing power that I'm aware of, he easily could have lost his last fight on top of that, Witter is obviously far to unknown for Hatton to consider fighting(), doesn't leave many other options. Stevie Forbes would have been a much better fight than Lazcano, surely you'd have to agree there?

Malignaggi has a decent fanbase at MSG, but not really outside of there.
Lazcano was on FNR3, but most people still don't know anything about him.
Forbes would do well to challenge Hatton if everything else falls through.
Could be a decent payday for both.

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Yea I know Malignaggi is semi popular in NY, and I could be wrong, I just think the fact that Forbes as much as gave a decent account of himself against Oscar on saturday makes him more markatable than Paulie or anyone else Hatton could fight, by a stride. He lost the fight, but Malignaggi almost lost his last fight against the very unknown Ngoudjo, he's not much more of an appetizing opponent imo. Also I think Paulie would probably have a better chance to beat Ricky. Hatton-Forbes is probably pretty likely right about now imo. I guess they do have Malignaggi fighting on the Hatton undercard though, have to see how he looks there.

Hatton stop Malignaggi:confused::confused:...Whereb di you come up with that?....Paulie would not stand still long enough for Hatton to land more then 1 shot at a time....Paulie like or not has a cast iron jaw

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
I don't see why so many people under rate hatton. Sure, he got beat by Mayweather, but mayweather is the p4p king.. Hatton deliviers some of the most lethal punches in the sport, he's done something Floyd wasn't able to do, KO Castillo. I think Hatton will bounce back in great style and maybe even give Floyd a better rematch should Floyd decide to come out of retirement once again.
I think it'll be malignaggi first though, which I can see hatton winning by a points decision.

Who's under rating Hatton?

I agree Hatton's best option cash wise is probably Forbes and behind that Witter (I'm sure 90% of the UK would be there to support Hatton in that one) Then Malignaggi, then Torres. I really wish Judah would have gone back down to 140.

I think he's easily the worst 140 lber in the Ring rankings. No way he belongs in the top 10 in that division.

Wondered that myself when I read it...
Last I checked just because you don't think a fighter will KO a guy that took 12 rounds of abuse from one of the sports hardest punchers P4P did not mean you were underrating him:-\...
Then again everyone has different opinions on what under rating is

Hatton or Malignaggi?

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Forbes gave a relatively decent showing against Oscar but Hatton would have his way with him at 140.
Hattons plan of Lazcano, Malignaggi......and then possibly Mayweather is the right way. Gives him something to aim for and the tricky Malignaggi fight would be ideal for making a few technical adjustements.
I know many are opposed to a Mayweather rematch but I still prefer it to an Oscar rematch. Just the way it is for me.

Forbes by KO. Great chin fast hands and he is stronger than Collazo with much better boxing ability

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
P4PKing:
to answer your question, malinaggi at MSG is a far bigger draw than steve forbes will ever be and command a much bigger pay day.
Then you have the potential fight with witter which if he does dispose of bradley and perhaps one more opponent will be forced on rickys door and he`ll have no alternative but to fight junior.
ricardo torres and carlos ortiz should both be established contenders by the time hattons seen off malinaggi.
Hatton has plenty of better options out there than fighting forbes which is why i firmly believe the fight will never go down or ever be close to happening.
As for the guy that questioned hattons ability to stop paulie:
The only way you can diminish hattons relentless approach is to hit him hard and force him into fighting with a more withdrawn approach. Malinaggi posseses no real power to possibly make that happen and hatton will be clambering all over him for 12 rounds.
Eventually the realisation that paulie has never felt the kind of relentless pressure hatton throws up will lead to a late stoppage!!

You rank Forbes higher then just these two of Ricky's many opponants?
Steve is slick and fast... Good movement. He has only 9 KOs to his credit in his entire career... Most of his career was spent fighting fair opposition... Nothing special and being employed as a sparing partner.
Please enlighten me on how this feather fisted, past his prime, B+ level former champion would put a chink in Ricky's armour...

weel for one ricky cant handle fighting at 147 we saw that when luis collazo, that big puncher that he is, nearly ripped rickys head off and kicked his ass all over the ring....forbes has proven he can hang with bigger guys and take their best leather. fighting a short-stack like ricky would be no prob for forbes. i think steve is very underrated and a good boxer and if dlh couldnt bully him little ricky fatboy aint gonna bully him. i see forbes ooutboxing hima nd hurting ricky

Re: Would Hatton have beaten Forbes on Saturday?
Its funny, while watchin the Forbes vs. Oscar fight, I was thinkin to myself "Could Forbes beat my favorite fighter Ricardo Mayorga? If Mayorga couldn't KO him or knock him down a couple times, would Forbes outbox him?"
I don't know.
Maybe Forbes could beat some big names to be honest. Maybe Hatton, but I think he'd get outworked by Hatton and maybe hurt to the body.
Oscar did NOT take it easy on Forbes, but he didn't go all out either.

I agree that ODLH didn't go "all out" one thing he did very well in that fight was to pace himself, I don't think his defense was as good as HBO said it was, and he still relied on the shoeshining to win rounds.

I would certainly hope he would of beaten Forbes.
