Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
By Mark Vester
Edison Miranda has revenge on his mind when he meets IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham on June 21 at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. The first fight took place in 2006 in Abraham's backyard of Germany. Miranda broke Abraham's jaw and pressed the fight, but lost five-points along the way for fouls. Abraham won a lopsided twelve-round decision. He also needed reconstructive surgery to repair his jaw.
The rematch takes place at the catch-weight of 166-pounds and televised by Showtime. Miranda has promised a knockout and says there will be no referee or judges that can help him. Miranda doesn't count the Abraham fight as a loss. He feels that he won regardless of the scorecards.
"History will repeat itself, but this time I'm going for a knockout. He won't have a referee to help him. In seven or eight rounds I will end the fight with a knockout. We are working hard and I believe that's what will happen," Miranda told El Nuevo Dia.
Miranda says that he doesn't view the fight as a rematch, but an opportunity for his future. He plans to spar with fighters like Glen Johnson to prepare himself.
"The promoters, the trainers and his team are guilty of everything that happened. It's not a rematch, but represents the future of Edison Miranda. I wanted my name to be among the best in the world and this fight is one more step for my name to be there," Miranda said. "Here, the referees, the judges and the fans know boxing and they know how to recognize good work. In Germany they don't."

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
IMO if anyones getting stopped its Miranda!

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
I'm hoping for a Miranda win in this one.
I was very high on Abraham when he beat Kingsley Ikeke for the vacant title, but apart from Miranda he has fought nobody of note since, instead opting to tumble a number of mediocre fighters and increase the hype in Germany, over his "devastating" power.

Yeah I agree with you about Abraham's recent string of sub par opponents but he is still a very goo fighter

Yeah gotta give him huge credit for the courage displayed in that 1st fight.
My question is if Miranda couldn't stop Abraham with a broken jaw last time out whats he gotta do this time

I think Miranda is still an unknown quantity art 168 as we've only seen him against Banks and as such we can't say that he's vastly improved.
One advantage is that he may be more acclimatised to the weight as he has already been to 168, where as Abraham is moving up for the first time.
Before each fight Miranda preaches of his knockout prowess and promises a stoppage. In the fights he does go for them, but will a more mature Abraham be able to use this to his advantage?
I'm not sure but I think when we find out, a lot of questions will be answered on both fighters belhalf's.

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
I would like to see Miranda fight Froch.Think it would be a good fight while it lasts but Froch lack of defence would lead him to be ko'ed or stopped in my oppinion.
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
When miranda says he isn't KO'ing someone that will be real news. If you ask miranda to pick a winner in the upcoming cotto/margarito match-up he'd pick miranda by brutal KO in the first. Anyhow i go out on a limb once again and say miranda will destroy abraham. There is a whole lot of anger and agression built up in this guy. He'd probably rather have this fight with abraham more than a title shot these days. This is much different than the looking past pavlik miranda we'll see this time. Someone should call pascal and see if he wants to fight on the undercard.
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Will be interesting to see if Abraham has recovered physiologically from the injury, you see other sportsman take a while to get back to their best following a bad injury, Abraham has been very tentative since that fight and fought a string of non punchers. It will be a great fight but I think an on form Abraham beats Miranda any day. Miranda does carry a big punch but Pavlik took the full force and came back for more. At 166lbs may be a different story but if Abraham is up for it and fully recovered there is only one winner.

Absolutely this has been stewing with Edison for a while.... It will be a war, Miranda has tasted Pavliks fire and has recovered with no ill effects, so I dont see Abraham coming with anything that will derail Miranda.. Its amazing at the size difference between the Miranda that fought Abraham years ago and the one that fights at 168, looks more like 198

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
miranda to win by brutal stoppage.
Whoever the hell told edison to fight at 160 deserves shooting!!
At 168/175 the guy is a potential world beater that has the power to knock anyone out!!

Thats what i've been saying from day one everyone keeps saying Miranda will stop Abraham no question, but i totally disagree Abraham's jaw was basically hanging out so if Miranda couldn't stop Abraham when he was in that kind of condition, i can't really see him stopping Abraham this time.

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
It's quite simple for me fellas...
I've been seeing both guys fight along since they fought each other and I gotta say that compared to each other Mirandas made some adjustments in his game and he has improved. For me AA just seems to be there and anyone whos followed him will tell you that.
I believe Miranda here when he says he's gonna KO, AA.
I encourage all of you to go on YouTube or go find AAs last fights and see how much staring he does. AA lapses and in his fight with Ayala, I think it was the 7th round where he went almost a full minute and a half without throwing a single punch. Miranda know what he can do to AA and he's not afraid of him, if anyone having doubts in their mind is AA.
Pantera TKO....

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Having people like Glen Johnson as a sparring partner is the most impressive thing in the whole article.

Pace.
If you've seen the fight you will see it was fought at such a high pace by the late rounds both guys were pretty spent and just wailing away at anything falling into the ropes and what not.
I think this time Miranda will pick his shots more and be a bit more selective. I also agree with people saying this weight suits him better.
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Miranda is throwing his punches with better technique and he has tightened up his defense, although i am a bit worried this fight is taking place at Middleweight, because i've heard Miranda has been having trouble making Middleweight in the past. So i hope he isn't drained.

Miranda did stop Abraham. The ref and promoters interfered. Abraham quit, the ref stopped it, and it still went on. Abraham wanted to quit and wasn't allowed. Check the video....

Did you see the intervention from the ref and promoters???? Miranda stopped him. They just didn't allow it to be stopped. Abraham did a great job surviving after he wanted to quit, but he only had to survive to get the win.

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
If abraham didn't have the broken jaw he would have wiped the floor with miranda. Abraham's punches were having more effect than miranda's punces. I say abraham by brutal ko.

If Abraham had trouble with a guy like Ayala until the final seconds of the fight, I dont see how you can say he would wipe the floor with Miranda!

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
If (?) this is at Middle and Miranda goes in gunning for an all out Ko I think Abraham will beat him.I am always a little weary of fighters who go in so narrow a focus on KO's ??Granted,Miranda has the ability....and intentions....of rendering guys limp and bleeding but Abrahams knows what is coming and what to expect,He had better be on point throughout and should not expect the judges /ref to bail him out with point deductions and 'made up as you go' calls.I do think he can beat Miranda.I was so convinced Pantera would go up to the Spr.Middle mix next outing.

Well it is a super middleweight fight. It will be fought at a catchweight of 166lbs. My concern is if Miranda can even make that weight. He seems to be getting bigger and bigger every fight. He is starting to look like a body builder in there.

You do realise that Abraham wanted to quit don't you?
And that the injury Miranda inflicted on Arthur would have resulted in an automatic stoppage in any other circumstances

miranda is 100% focused in knocking out abraham, i hope he does.

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Isn't the fight taking place at a catch weight of 166 lbs... ?

But he didn't quit and he fought on like a true warrior, and lets remember how early that was in the fight. Miranda had about 7 and a half rounds to stop Abraham when he had broken jaw. But he couldn't do it so that just goes to show you how much will he has and how tough Abraham is. Im not saying Miranda won't win but i don't see him stopping iron chinned Abraham.
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
these two world-class fighters will settle the score once and for all in a 166- pound special attraction that is destined to produce fistic fireworks.
Abraham Miranda: Edison Miranda vs Arthur Abraham
That sounds a little better for Miranda that its at catch weight.

Actually he did quit. Then he was convinced to continue. The ref waived the fight off, Miranda started celebrating, then they changed it and kept fighting??? It was garbage. Miranda freakin stopped him once. Abraham kept fighting like one of those karate movies where the mob has his brother, girlfriend, or sensay, at gun point and will kill them if you don't win the fight. ;D
Not to downplay the physical sacrifice Abraham made, but he was forced to do it. He quit plain and simple. I am wondering if people forgot or just haven't seen the fight.....
That fight was fixed and Abraham got stopped. Anyone who thinks otherwise is full of.....:horseshit:

If Miranda didn't punch Abraham in the jaw he wouldn't have gotten a broken jaw. Seriously think about what you said.....
Abrahams punches had more effect??? Who went to the hospital?? Did Miranda kick him or something? If Abrahams punches were having more effect why didn't Miranda have a MORE broken jaw???
;D
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
I wasn't talking about the broken jaw. I was talking body language. When Abraham landed he hurt Miranda a lot of the time. Even with the broken jaw. Obviously the punch that caused the broken jaw was effective. Either of these guys could knock each other out, but i have to give it to Abraham because by the looks of how Miranda reacted to being hit.

Abraham quit, he was forced to continue and forced from his corner.
The referee was also stopping the fight but ringside officials interjected

Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Frietas should fight in Germany.
-
Re: Miranda: "This Time I'm Knocking Abraham Out"
Miranda kinda did get screwed over the first fight. I mean he was celebrating the win, then saw it snatched away from him while he had to wait almost 7 minutes for the fight to continue. He had to see the fishiness going on and it had to play on his mind and effect his game for the rest of the fight.
From what i am guessing, at first they seemed cool with the stoppage as they tried to contribute the broken jaw to the headbutt, that would have dq'd Miranda or at least get enough points taken away to secure it if it had to go to the scorecards. The ref said the Jaw injury was from a punch, so if they stopped it, it had to be called a TKO for Miranda. So they made him wait, and wait, got the ref to jack away more points and then made Abraham continue.
Very Shady stuff indeed. I think this is why Abraham is fighting Miranda again over here. He is a fighter himself and has a lot of pride. He knew what took place and wants to settle it properly this time around.

why the f**k are there so many Edison Miranda fans on here??
Yes the guy is an amazing puncher who on his day can knock anyone out..
But its quite clear that the guy has a decidedly dodgy chin!!

Most of the time punches have got suspect chins or weak chins, Thomas Hearns, Nigel Benn, Julian Jackson, etc. Theres only ever been a few punches that have strong chins, Gerald McClellan, Mike Tyson, come to mind.

That is exactly what makes him exciting. He goes in there to war it up and let the chips fall. His fight with Kelly was a classic and he fought his heart out until he had absolutely nothing left.
He is cut from the same cloth as guys like Arturo Gatti. Always willing to give it his all. Abraham is doing the exact same thing. Both these guys deserve a shitload of credit as a win does not really help the winner. Abraham does not need this fight as he would be able to fight Pavlik regardless. Miranda does not need this fight because if he does win, he will still be a guy looking for a dance partner at 168.
This is a fight for pride more than anything. It is a risky venture for both without the offer of much reward.
