He looked like class in that fight but acted like scum afterwards .
Even though I admire Toneys skills I hate watching the fight cuz I cant belive Evander lost to a fat loudmouth who was a middleweight 10 years b4. I'd love to see Evander get revenge and he may do if they met again .
REALLY??? Holyfield was past it and Toney was a fat blown up middleweight, anyone who likes Toney remembers the sharp middle/super middleweight, the last decent fight I saw Toney in was against Jirov and still then he was way over weight, look at the fights with Sam Peter, Toney has more ability in his little finger than Peter has. He isn't a heavyweight he is just a lazy guy who likes to eat lots these days.
I agree he acted bad afterwards and acted very ignorant, but man his skills in that fight were up there. Holyfield wasn't even on the same level.
Tell us more about what he said afterwards?
That was Toney in awesome form and had he carried that to his heavyweight fights he would have beaten Peters and Rahman. Shame.
For some reason he became angry with Jim Gray during the interview and slapped the mic out of his hand and walked off: which is bazaar behavior for a fighter who just won a fight.
Toney was sick of Jim Gray disrespecting fighters so he refused to do the interview and slapped the mic out of his hand. I thought it was hilarious.
True it was a washed up Holyfield, but still a tough Holyfield, and I thought it was a fantastic performance by James. His defense was spectacular. There was one part of the fight where James slipped a punch, stuck his tongue out at Holyfield while Evander was in the middle of throwing a jab, and then slipped that jab. It was fantastic stuff.
Toney at his best was a joy to watch especially in this fight and against Barkley, Jirov, Nunn, Toney was one hell of a tough cookie with that famous shoulder roll and it was beautiful to watch him roll with the punches and counter when he was at his best. But he was lazy and he sometimes struggled against fighters that he should of ate for breakfast, Dave Tiberi comes to mind.
I thought he did not disrespect Holyfield. He did say that he was going to KO Holyfield and everyone thought he was crazy but those body shots were vicious and they played a big part in stopping Holyfield.
Holyfield was wayyyy past his prime in that fight. Holyfield was completely exhausted when he went down. I like Toney but he wouldn't have been able to hold a candle to a prime Evander.
Hoyfield didn't go down, it was stopped. He was getting hit with everything Toney threw and they stopped it.
At heavyweight no way, cruiser would have been an all time classic fight. I would lean towards Holyfield, cause I think he is stronger, but what a great fight.
F**k Toney !!!
Thanks to all that added to the thread. Except fight fan. :p
Absolutely. I've always said that if Toney had just spent the majority of his career at cruiserwieight, he could have gone down as one of the greatest cruisers ever.
Instead he spent the early part of his career starving himself down to 160/168/175, and then spent his later years as a fat out-of-shape heavyweight.
There was another fight in which a fighter starved himself to make weight and had absolutely nothing for the fight. Tiberi won that fight.
Yeah i agree 100% with the person who said toney's last good fight was against Jirov. I can watch that fight over and over again.
The fight proved 2 things , Toney is a wonderful boxer , and its amazing that a former Middle weight can fight at heavy.
Also showed Evander was a shop worn fighter.
Holyfield was way past his prime but it was still a solid performance, that was the weight Toney should have been at heavy, about 215-220, he could bounce on his toes and all of that. And Holy was past his prime but he'd at least been reasonably competitive in his last fight before that against Byrd.
Toney acted a little crazy after the fight but I remember watching that fight again on a download with British announcers and thought they made a bit much out of it. For one he was very respectful towards Holyfield which is the most important thing. And I can't get too outraged about knocking the microphone out of Jim Gray's hands, annoying prick.

One of my favourite toney fights actually..
I do love him so :p:)
Yes Toney was a fight everybody type fighter I always thought. I also think that it was just unfortunate circumstances that he didn't get an alphabelt strap.
I dont know i think it has to be said the holyfield fight was really something..
Its not like Holyfield didnt fight on and get some wins after that..
And toney was as fit as hes been as a heavyweight in that fight.. He was sharp, strong.. It was a perfect fight on toney's part..
And for the record.. toney bieng brash makes toney toney.. So gotta love it ;):)
