Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Is this a mistake on team Hatton to let the fight go.It will look bad if Ricky struggles against the limited Lazcano or at worst gets beat cause he has a virus.
article Sky Sports | Boxing | News | Hatton shrugs off illness

Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
If he's not 100% he shouldn't fight. This sport is way to dangerous to attempt micheal jordan fever type endurance. But if he does choose to fight then don't mention it again especially in a loss.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Hatton is a battler, i can't see a simple virus halting him. Although it could have a effect on stamina late on, providing Juan makes it that far.
I just don't think Hatton wants to let the public down, above all else his hometown.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Hatton and His Team are 100 % proffesional these stories get fired up in the press a few weeks before a fight its not ideal but iit shouldnt affect the fight too much
if hatton was to ill to fight he wouldnt fight
He will be ready for the fight
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
This has happened a few times in the past and Team Hatton have crawled through broken glass to stop it going public... but seem to be broadcasting it this time... VERY STRANGE INDEED
the sinic in me wonders if he still has it and their setting the excuses up for a loss because this is not normal from team hatton all stuff is hush hush till after the event normally :-\

With Saddo on this one. I love Hatton, but this strikes me as kind of odd. Maybe they are covering his back so to speak incase Lazcano provides an upset a la Bradley-Witter. But this cannot be an excuse, he's either fit to fight or he isn't. People would see past the 'excuse'. Anyway he's going to win so this all becomes academic

Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
I hope he doesn't have Witter-itus
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
there aint fuck all wrong with him. In the last 3 fights they were making the excuses after he got beat or looked shit (i;m not including a shot castillo btw) and people started to get sick of it. So now they put the rumor out before hand incase he looks wank so they have a reason again for it.
Collazo - stepped up in weight to soon - ok first one we give him the benefit of the doubt.
Urango - Some Virus again then, something to do with the AC in the hotel?
Castillo - shot, who gives a shit?
Mayweather - The ref cost him the fight, not the fact Mayweather made him look out of his depth and toyed with him most of the night before Kayoing him.
I am sick of the shit coming out of this camp and Hatton him self. UP untill and including the Tszyu fight i liked hatton, was still cool with him to the mausa fight, but after that this guy really has gone down hill IMO, as a person and as a 'sports man'
Doesn't keep him self in shape and IMO you are shitting on you're own fans by doing that.
If he Doesn't look great out come the excuses one after another...
Suffers one loss and whines like a bitch, oh he trys to act humble but they have pinned his loss on the ref and other reasons, not once admitting out and out he lost SOLY because he wasn't (and imo never ever will be) in mayweathers league.
After taking loss, and with all his exp he takes a piss poor fight and claims it's "to give back to the fans" - yeah if you really care about the fans then why the fuck do people have to pay £20 (about $40) to watch u fight some second rate fighter with a shit undercard? No skin of my back personaly, £20 isn;t anything to me, hell iv prolly left more £20 notes rolled up on the back of some toilet in a pub than i have spent on PPV's But there are a tonne of people out there, kids being raised by single mums, people who can't find work whom would love to watch a hatton fight live, but get fucked by the PPV... This isn't a PPV rant, you gotta except it for a major bout, but when this joker covers up his shit apponent by claiming it was for the fans, for his homecoming fight then lets it go PPV then he is now well and turly IMO full of shit.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
The pre-fight excuses for a less than impressive performance have already strarted
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Lazcano is picked to make Hatton look good and obviously because he has no-chance.
Hatton takes a few a liberties in training knowing it's a gimme.
All of a sudden as the fight looms he doesn't look so hot and they start not fancying the job, so they get the excuses in just in case he does a Urango and knackers half-way through.
Interesting.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Ricky gets a cold or flu before every fight.
Why?
Because he allows himself to baloon out of shape, kills himself in training and weakens his immune system.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
"Doesn't keep him self in shape and IMO you are shitting on you're own fans by doing that."
How exactly???
Why on gods earth should it matter just one bit whether ricky puts on weight outside of the ring??
Joe calzaghe is known to shoot up 200 odd pounds between fights and nobody says a word about that - hatton is a naturally big lad who fights at 140 because it suits him not because he has to.
So the man likes a drink every other day - so does about 95% of the british population.
Ricky knows with what he has to go through between fights that he only has another 2-3 years in the profesional game. When the time comes that hatton cant make a weight then i`ll criticise.
Until then though and argument over what he does is neither ethically or morally correct
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Hatton said after struggling with Vilches and Urangotang that he would not go through with a fight if he was ill, just goes to show how much of a sham this 'fight' is.
Witter should come out and say that he was sick. Watch the Hatton faithfull bite their lips until Hatton gets by Lazcano before taking a shot at him.
-

Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
Thank god (imaginary) it's not being called off
So.. should he have a dodgy night that "illness" wont be blamed ;)

I'm always critical of Hatton but that was a bit harsh, he trains as much as anyone for a solid 3 months before a fight + he's not the first fighter to have roumours leaked about his health before a fight, but he will live to regret 'ballooning' so much in the near future.
The rest of your post is pretty much what I have against Hatton, it's all just endless PR from his dad and his lawyer churning out crap, especially taking the liberty of proclaiming to give something back to the fans in the form of a paycut when in fact he is being massively overpaid considering his opposition and the hardships the majority of boxers endure.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
In truth, there is no fighter that trains as hard as Hatton in training camp.

The only way his immune system would be weak is if he had severley over-trained. If he had severley over-trained for every fight, his in the ring perfromance would be absolutely awful everytime he fought. This obviously isn't the case.
I know his lifestyle isn't ideal but to say thats the reason he gets cold or flu isn't very factual.
I also find it hard to believe that Kerry Kayes would allow him to over-train.
I can only think of two recent occassions where he has been ill before a fight. Against Urango and now.
When you consider that his training camp is 12 weeks long and he has 2 fights per year, this equals 24 weeks of training. 24 weeks without a cold would be pretty exceptional (or lucky) by anyone's standards.
When you consider that the average person has between 3-4 colds per year, it's very hard to prove that his lifestyle has anything to do with him catching Colds.
Interestingly the most common time to catch a cold is between September and May. He fought Urango in January and the Lazcano illness will most likely have started in late April.

He sheds a minimum of 26 pounds coming into every fight and has to dehydrate himself before every weigh in. It may not be over training, but it would have a similar effect.
You can see how gaunt he is at every weigh in.
And I actually feel he hasn't performed to his optimum since the Tszyu fight:-\

Can't imagine that happening seen as though he got sparked in his last fight.
I know it sounds crazy and fighters are supposed to be super-human and all that, but he might just have actually been ill.

Remeber he had a cold sore on his lip before Mayweather and indeed before Castillo?
He get's very run down in the last few weeks of his training. He was genuinely ill before Urango, Castillo and Collazo and thats for certain.

Yeah good post; short and right to the heart of the matter. Donny said in another post Hatton trains as hard as anyone in camp: well he has to considering his lifestyle.
It's just like overweight people who go from one diet to the next, back and forth, lose weight gain weight. Very hard on the body. A consistent lifestyle is much healthier, especially in the long run when Ricky retires.

26lbs over 12 weeks isn't a great deal. You could lose 12lbs through dieting alone. So basically all he would need to do would be burn an extra 500 cals per day as well as eating 500 less. I'm pretty sure Joe Calzaghe goes through much much worse. Especially with dehydrating himself.
Being dehydrated would also lower his punch resistance and there isn't any evidence to suggest that that has gone.
I agree with your last point but i feel that has more to do with the step up in class and a major change in his own tactics. Technically he has gone backwards imo.

Aren't cold sores a form of Herpes? In other words they re-occur throughout your lifetime. You can never actually get rid of it.
I don't remember him being ill before Castillo and Collazo.

Thanks Legion appreciated.
The fact is a fighter has to train for dual purposes.
1) To develop his skills, fitness and stamina.
2) To make weight.
If a fighter maintains his weight between fights, stays in good shape and allows himself effective rest he will be able to return for his next training camp, with less weight worries and more time for training his skills, stamina etc.
I don't feel that it is coincidental that we have seen Hatton baloon between fights and then employ a basic plan in all his fights and seemingly running low on his once endless supply of stamina.
Ricky has already suffered because of his lifestyle.
However, he did not blow up much after Mayweather I have to admit.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
To touch on what Donny said. I believe if he did stay in better shape, it would allow him to spend much more time refining his skills.
To be fair to him, he has only lost once in 44 fights and that was to Mayweather. Even being in fantastic year round condition wouldn't have made any difference to his record imo. Talent beat him. Not his lifestyle.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
IMO it's a different type of weight for Ricky to lose than other notorious examples like JC and Corrales. The latter type are big men for the weights and have to dehydrate, whereas you can see from Ricky's face between fights that he is genuinely fat, IMO RH isn't a big LWW and from the interview with his nutritionist he doesn't really need to dehydrate himself much. Wether losing this type of weight is more or less detrimental I don't know, but I'm quite sure that Ricky's lifestyle is catching up with him slowly.
-
Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
With Ricky having to train so hard to make the weight could a few days off ,make him train even harder when he feels better and burn him self out before the fight.Or even struggle to make the weight ?

Who knows....
Stranger things have happened.
Wouldn't be surprised if he did call it a day after the fight tbh. There aint that much left for him. He's proved he's the best 140lb fighter around and he lost to Mayweather. He's made his money

Don't think that will happen.
Hatton has signed with Golden Boy and a three fight HBO deal that starts with powderpuff (why he's on the undercard) later in the year (they rejected the Lazcano fight ;)).
One of those fights is gauranteed to be a STAR name (Pac?).
So.. he wont be quitting anytime soon with the HUGE money on offer ;)

Forgot about that. Damn. The Paulie - N'Dou fight is even more pointless than the Hatton - Lazcano one.
I knew he was mooted to fight Paulie but i'm still wondering how he feels if he looks absolute shite!
I don't think you far wrong with Pac. How do you think Pac would cope at 140? He seems to have the frame to cope with it.

Not sure how Pac will do at 140 but if he fights Hatton - and Hatton hasn't totally lost it - he'll get slaughtered. I bet Ricky would LOVE that fight. ;)

I'd expect Pac to carry the weight well. He seems to have the frame for it. Only problem is, Hatton's core strength should be much stronger so Hatton would most likely be able to bully him.
I don't think Pac is a natural bantam/feather, i actually think he's under nourished. Bit like Mayweather when he was down at 130.
Pac fills out quite easily. I'd give him a chance. It would be an exciting fight imo.

Re: Hatton struggling with a virus fight goes on!
He's still got 10 days before the fight. Whats up with all the sick European fighters? Must be flu season over there. Good to hear he isn't flaking out, he should recover in time.
