Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
It seems this fight has a realistic chance of happening.
Boxing News : Joe Calzaghe vs. Kelly Pavlik in The Works
Do you think Pavlik would beat Calzaghe??

And i would for certain rather see Pavlik vs Calzaghe than Jones vs Calzaghe.

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Ive gone for JC for the very same reasons i usually pick him
I imagine he would be the much busier fighter and pavlik wouldnt be able to establish any rhythm in the contest which would lead to him throwing at times and enabling joe to get the better of his man on the inside.
JC by unanimous decision unless he gets caught with one of those straight rights early doors!!
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
It is hard to bet against Calzaghe, especially now since he has finally done what was asked and what he was criticized for all these years. He beat 2 top caliber fighters in a row, Kessler and Hopkins.
Calzaghe will remain undefeated if the two face off
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
I feel Calzaghe's been showing his age for a couple of years, and for that I think Pavlik has an above evens chance of pulling it off. Stylistically (doesn't matter how straight nd powerful your right hand is) come forward guys are Calzaghe's bread and butter, it would be a hell of a fight (competitive) whichever JC that Pavlik would hypothetically face, but IMO Calzaghe's chances fade by the month.

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Quote me here and now
PAVLIK WILL FLATTEN CALZAGHE.
Pavlik is a fighter that likes to trade, there is nothing in Joe's arsenal that's gonna back up the ghost. And those straight rights, connect all night.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Yes he would. Hell anybody that knows how to judge boxing knows Hopkins already ended Calzaghe's undefeated record
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
I voted yes. Joe could definately win this fight, but I just don't see Pavlik being denied. He's way more of a beast than Kessler, and he's taller and won't get smothered like Lacy. If Joe's bike is greased up, then he could win, but if those wheels get a little rusty, Pavlik all day.
For the record, I wouldn't bet on this fight. I give Joe the edge, but I have faith in Pavlik.

That's funny stuff.

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Pavlik would end Calzaghe's undefeated record with 4 solid straight right hands to the jaw.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
he could but i think calzaghe would beat by UD.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
So who backed out Calzaghe or Jones?
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
haha its funny seeing these same people doubting calzaghe AGAIN.. Pavlik doesnt have the skill too live with Calzaghe, he has a punchers chance thou..
Looks like joe is gona leave a few people on this forum with egg on there face again if this fight gets made..
I just cant see any one beatin JC from MW to LHW at the moment unless he is KO'd, he is simply a better fighter than them all..
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
That's a funny title considering Pavlik is unbeaten too. Almost seems like Calzaghe is underdog.
Age is the only thing that beats Calzaghe. If he's right Pavlik will get schooled.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Think you`ll find the majority of americans will opt for pavlik while brits and most europeans would side towards a calzaghe win.
One things for sure...it would be one hell of a fight and would undoubtedly prove who truly is the king of the 160+ divisions!!

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Probably not. Calzaghe's probably at his best against guys that come to knock him out. Its not like he's totally made for Calzaghe, his ranginess helps, a short compact pressure fighter like Lacy really was made for Calzaghe. Still probably safe money is Calzaghe.

So Calzaghe-Jones is off then? That's disappointing.
The only reason I voted no in this poll is because I thought that RJJ was going to be the first to beat Calzaghe.

Completely disagree. i think Calzaghe would make Pavlik look silly.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
is there anyone that actually thinks pavlik could be JC without KO'ing him...
Pavlik has mad power but hell, Calzaghe has a rock chin, only 1 outcome in my book..
would be puting a big wager on this one if it happens,

He got floored by a 43 year old grandad.

Pavlik doesn't make a big fuss about being undefeated unlike Calzaghe.

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
he got caught by B-HOP??? big deal??
Jesus christ, Pavlik was a whisker away from being kO'd by Talylor, he was in far more trouble that JC has ever bin in!!!

When was the last type B-hop KO'd someone ?? Calslapper's chin can't be that great, if a straight right from Hopkins does that then I dread to think what several straight rights from Kelly Pavlik does :-\

Until Calzaghe fought Kessler he'd never been in the ring with someone as good as Taylor either.

it was a knock down, he wasn't in trouble, he walked through bigger punches against Kessler(upercuts) Hopkins style was just akward. Ali was floored against Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper but managed to do ok against big punching Foreman and Shavers...
anyway I think Calzaghe would win this one handily enough to be honest, I think he'd be to smart for Kelly, personally I think Taylor would give him much more trouble than Pavlik, only worry about Calzaghe would be his age, think he should call it a day soon, nothing more to prove

IS THE CALZAGHE Vs JONES FIGHT DEAD IN THE WATER??

Chris Eubank wasn't bad.

Fair do's. Maybe when he's an old boy he will too... if he's still unbeaten that is ;)

I'm not saying he was bad, but at that stage of his career I don't think he was as good as Jermaine Taylor was when he fought Pavlik.

78% of people on here can't judge boxing then ;)
http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...eally-won.html
and neither can the vast majority of sports writers and pundits around the globe.
Seriously can be objective, but you gotta look at how you are scoring fights if you saw that fight clearly for Hopkins.
As for the thread question, I would say at this moment in time Pavlick would have a very good chance of beating JC
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
I voted No. Don't get me wrong I think Pavlik is great, but he would be facing two big disadvantages here that he never faced much of.
Pavlik has never fought a world class southpaw, or a fighter with great lateral movement. He did fight McKart who is southpaw, but he had a huge size advantage over him and Mckart's better days were far behind him.
Now unless they can get him some great sparring, I can see him getting out hustled by Joe because Pavlik will be struggling for position all night. Pavlik will need to slow Joe's 37 year old legs down. He may be able to do it, but I can also see Joe summoning one last good performance out of them.
A great matchup, but I give Joe a slight advantage here. Pavlik may be more well rounded than I think and could figure him out though.

A) To the lady letting us know Calzaghe already lost his 0 to Bernard. What planet do you live on? How's the weather there? Calzaghe shut Nard out the last 7 rounds, and that cannot be disputed. Great first four rounds for Bernard, but THATS IT. I cannot beleive how many stubborn Joe-bashers are playing that tune over and over. No way in hell Joe came anywhere close to losing that fight.
B) In regard to the knockdown by Hopkins against Calzaghe. Joe came in funny and had nowhere to go. It was a good right hand, but Joe wasnt hurt. He had to go down cuz there was nowhere else to take the punch. He was NOT hurt. At all. Using this as some example that Joe is fading is asinine.
Kelly, great power.
Puncher's chance only against JC. He gets absolutely schooled if he doesnt catch Joe with something horrific in the first 8.
Joe by stupid lopsided UD.
I hate when people label something as a fact when it isn't i know for certain Hopkins had at least 2 good rounds after the first 4 rounds and those rounds could of gone either way. How is it a "fact" that he shut out Hopkins in last 7 rounds ?? i didn't know you was god almighty and everyone had to follow your "opinion".
And i never said Calzaghe was hurt from the knockdown why don't you read my post again before you start insulting people. But he was hurt a few times like in one round where he almost went down at the end of the round, and he was caught over and over again with straight right hands which is Kelly Pavlik's best punch. Plus his combination's aren't as fast or furious as they used to be, which hints to me that he is starting to become a faded force.

Whatever the dissenting opinion over your two round discrepency, JOE WON THAT FIGHT. The world at large, save a small percentage of Nard fans, all agree. Over and done.
Say what you will, thats the beauty of this country. But if they end up meeting, just remember what I said. Pavlik gets outclassed, outboxed, and loses convincingly.
And you know what? People will STILL doubt Joe. The next guy they pair up Calzaghe with, there will still be excuses made for Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, and Pavlik as to why they weren't at their best or about how they got robbed.
Maybe Joe can never overcome the one thing that most hold silenty against him.
He's not an American...
Have to say I totally agree with almost all of that.
The only thing I will say is that I think Pavlick would catch JC at some stage and if he does he will do damage! So for me it's 50-50 with 2 possibile outcomes- Pavlick TKO or JC Big UD

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
pavlik has shown great grit in his fights vs miranda and taylor 1, has a good right hand and good stamina......................i'd like to see this one and hope pavlik could win but it would be tricky

I am calm maybe your the one that needs to calm down. I stated my points without insulting you, i believe Hopkins won the fight and that doesn't make me "Insane" or whatever you think, just because i have a different opinion. Just like your's is an opinion not a "Fact".
By the way i am English i come from London, it doesn't mean just because i come from the UK i automatically have to like Calzaghe or etc, im not really a fan of his but i don't hate him i have most of his fights.
I just think he should of moved up to Light Heavyweight years ago. He always said he was tight at the weight. As for the wins you mentioned like i have said time and time again i never really rated Lacy, i see him struggle with mediocre opposition like Omar Sheika, Syd Vanderpool, i'll give Calzaghe credit for Kessler win because i did rate Kessler and i still do. I give Calzaghe credit for Hopkins win, even though i don't believe he won. But i still think younger Hopkins would of beaten him, but thats just my opinion.
Calzaghe was unlucky to come along at the wrong time when Benn, Watson, McCallum, Jones, Toney, Collins, etc had either retired or moved up in weight.

Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
I voted no. I'd like to think that Calzaghe is spry enough to spin Pavlik round and round so that he can't land that one hammering blow that does the job.
-
Re: Would Kelly Pavlik end Calzaghe's undefeated record if they met?
Just out of curiousity has anyone seen either fighter fighting going backwards?
They both are come forward fighters, I think given Joe's jump in style and Pavlik's plow forward style we can all agree a bad clash of the heads is likely.
