Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
http://www.fightnews.com/byrd175.jpg
Two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd (40-1-4, 21 KOs) showed off his sculptured much leaner body at an open workout today in Las Vegas. The 37-year-old lost about 40 pounds to come down from heavyweight to light heavyweight. Byrd commented that he packed on a lot of fat when he put the pounds on to make the heavyweight division and he feels better and is faster at this weight. Byrd faces Shaun George (16-2-2, 7 KOs) in a 175-pound clash on Friday at the Cox Pavilion. In an interesting side note, Byrd also headlined the first-ever boxing event in the Cox Pavilion, winning a unanimous decision over David Tua in an IBF heavyweight title elimination bout on August 18, 2001. For that bout Chris weighed 215.

I wonder how his power is at LHW...

Byrd V Calzaghe could be on the cards?
-
Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
I always wonder about the power per weight loss factor, indeed. Certainly looking ripped though and ready for business.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Obviously he looks very impressive, but I'm not so hopeful for him. Over the past few years there has been a significant decrease in his reflexes and speed IMO. He's getting hit a hell of a lot more than he used to. I don't think this is the right time in his career to drop down and start fighting these quicker guys. But I guess time will tell...

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
I really think The lt Heavys will cause some problems for Byrd as they will be punching with Byrd as opposed to him out speeding bigger Heavys.Wonder about Conditioning-stamina after the shrink down and He's not shedding the years and battle damage like the weight.Should be very interesting.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
I wont make a judgement on him as it will be fullish for anyone to form an opionion on him without having seem him fight at that weight.
I will say however that dropping that much weight can't be to his advantage.
-
Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
He does have the advantage of having taken heavyweight shots, from some big hitters at heavy no less, so he brings his heavyweight chin with him.
-
Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Well I posted this in the WNF thread when they talked about his fight this Friday, so I thought that I would share it here as well, just in case you don't read that thread. ;) ;D
Anyway, is it just me, or does Chris Byrd's face look "tranny" like, since he lost some weight. :o

I don't know about that the accumulation of all those heavyweight punches may be a decided disadvantage as well, as Mick said I will reserve judgement until I see hime in the ring.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Mighty impressive. I wish Byrd had entered the crusierweight or light heavyweight division years ago, I think he would have been one of the most dominate forces there with the exception of Roy Jones Jr

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
I think his stamina will be way better you wont see him laying on the ropes half the fight I bet, he should kick some ass, he still has some time IMO.

Your 1st instinct was on point......When a strong thing for Byrd is proving a solid chin over and over......Thats say's something.Wish him luck,Should be fun to watch over time.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Also when you look at the LHW's they aren't exactly spring chickens either theres alot of old foggies hanging out in LHW. Well old for boxing anyway. Excluding Dawson of course and a few other up and comers.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
hE LOOKS drain, and he still has those crazy eyes.
-
Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
It's obvious he's drained... old... beaten...
... but can he fight through it all? That's the question only the fight can answer. should be interesting.

I really want him to do well at light heavy but honestly in the entire history of boxing has there ever been a fighter who dropped 40 lbs and moved down a couple divisions and looked good?
It ruined Jones Jr and Tarver and they were never heavyweights to begin with.
Byrd has been a heavy for a decade, it can't be a good thing to lose all that weight.
I hope he manages to prove people wrong though. I've never heard of his opponent so hopefully this is an easy fight to get him adjusted to 175lbs and then he can build from there.
Byrd has always been a class act out of the ring so I wish him well.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Must be nice for Byrd to fight 175'ers when he has been used to horrible monsters like Tua and Ike , must have no fear at all now and total confidence, could be a bad thing but probably a good thing.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
He looks like Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Well he has had plenty of time to lose the weight. I guess the weight issue will be more about what his ideal weight is. But when it comes to fighting at that weight at his age like other's have said we will have to wait and see. He sure has had some big punching opponents in his time.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Call me an oldtimer... but I've seen this episode before.
I won't be surprised until two to three fights from now, IF he wins those pretty easy, THEN we're talking.
But as of now, Chris is just smaller, his competition is faster, he's older weaker and holding on to old dreams.
Been there done that. heh Sorry to be harsh.

Off the top I remember Fabrice Tiozzo shed about 16-18 pnds down to win a Lt.Heavy belt, down from Cruiser. It's had to have happened way back before the 'Jr's And Super divisions.Just a few weeks ago,Mount Whitaker came back after losing 40 pounds and looked bad.....a bit different,he was crap'olla to begin with ;D

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Byrd looked like he was a crackhead, and got beat like one too. I thought he would do better than that, guess he was hittin the pipe too much.

That shouldn't be funny but it is. heheh
I wish I could have seen the fight. But maybe it's for the best, I don't want to see a heavyweight "champ" get toyed with by a much much smaller man. Especially since I've seen Byrd in one great fight: Byrd Golata.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
That new physique did him no favors, he got his ass kicked. He has retired i hope.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
:o:o whenever did this happen?!?!? looking fooking ripped....be interesting to see how he fairs back down at LightHeavy.

Re: Chris Byrd's new physique!...whoa...take a look...
Lol man he got sparked by Shaun George, dropped in the first and on wobbly legs the whole fight. He didnt have any power even at light heavy and was obviously drained. He got stopped in the 7th I think after dislocating his shoulder on a knockdown. It was not what I had hoped for at all.....
