Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Gary Lockett says he can exploit Kelly Pavlik's limited armoury when he challenges for the American's WBC and WBO middleweight titles in the USA.
"Pavlik's brilliant at what he does," said Cwmbran's Lockett, a huge underdog for the 7 June bout in Atlantic City.
"But he's no Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe or Miguel Cotto, he doesn't have their all-round game.
"We know what he'll do, come forward at a pace and put it all through the left hand. We've got a game plan for it."

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Pavlik is a bit predictable and does have some flaws but I don't think they are going to be exposed by trying to push him backwards. If Jermain Taylor and Edison Miranda couldn't push him back effectively then Gary Lockett isn't going to either. I think the first person to give him a lot of lateral movement is going to give Pavlik a lot of problems but in the middleweight division I just don't know who that would be.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Pavlik is predictable. If u are fighting him it is easy to predict that your gonna get hit hard and often.
If u have as little ability as lockett its easy to predict u'll get hit VERY hard VERY often, til u fall over.

Lockett is also very suspect to right hands i've seen him caught with that punch plenty of times in his fights, so thats why i expect it to go no longer than 5 rounds 6 at the most but thats pushing it IMO. Spinks would give Pavlik some problems at Middleweight but he doesn't fight at that weight anymore so i don't really know.

That is what I thought when I read this. I predict PAIN. Ha ha haha.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Pavlik is predictable. But that wouldn't matter once Lockett gets caught with the straight right hand from Pavlik.
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
He might be predictable, but it is hard to overcome a good long hard jab, no matter how predictable it is.
That punch has been the foundation of many good and great fighters of the past and present. Pavlik is not flashy, but he will be a challenge for anyone.
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Pavlik is going to wreck Lockett. I can't see this going past 3
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Battering rams are also predictable, doesn't mean you want to be in front of one.

Yes!!

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Yep, Pav is pretty predictable. I mean, just look at his ratio of ko's, and Lockett can make a pretty safe assumption that he will predictably get KTFO:cool:
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
At least Lockett got a game plan, im sure its working well in his sparring, but predictable or not i don't feel Lockett can get past that quick, hard, straight jab. His best chance is to stay inside, but Pavliks uppercut will eliminate any confidence Lockett has. This is a 5 round max fight, the best fight just may be the Lopez-De leon fight.
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
fair play to Lockett at least he sounds like he's going in with a plan and thinks he's going to win, personally I don't fancy his chances, I'd agree Pavlik's a bit predictable but when u hit like he does u can afford to be :)

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Everyone says they have plan agianst this beast. Taylor , Miranda ,who ever. I think my plan would be not to be injured permanatly . The way Pavlik finishes fights is enough to retire dudes. Taylor slumed over life less. Zertuche getting decapitated. Miranda getting beat to the piont he was unreconizable. He looked like a new born kitten with both his eyes swelled shut like that. I hope they have a smart ref in there. I dont see it going past 4 or 5.

Predictable. Predict a knock out.

Is taking the punch a game plan?

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
The only fight i saw lockett in was the the russian. He missed a lot of punches. Either the russian was good at ducking punches or lockett is very innaccurate. Maybe lockett can use pavlik's training with the sledgehammer and have him trainer repeatedly hit him in the face with it, it might help him get used to pavlik's power punches.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Lockett can bang and Pavlik is no stranger to the canvas. Could actually get pretty interesting.
That being said, i'm fully expecting a Pavlik KO victory.....probably around round 6/7
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
He is predictable, but nothing you can do about it. He is not a better counter puncher than Taylor, and he is gonna eat some combos. If Lockett comes out as a defensive/counter-puncher....then he may have a slight shot. It is the ol 1 2 sometimes he throws a double jab...but yeah they only thing thats not predictable is where he's gonna throw the left hook after.
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
I wouldnt be surprised though that Pavlik takes those words to heart and just opens up a whole new arsenal on his ass. Lockett isn't that versatlie either if ya ask me, so whats Enzo blabbing about....

Just trying to be sarcastic and funny at the same time. That's all.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Lockett is a nice guy with a huge heart, but he will be totally out of his depth with Pavlik, his best opponent he has faced to date was an aging Ryan Rhodes who is no where near world class, Lockett was lucky to get through that fight.
As people have already said the only predictable thing about this fight is Lockett is going to get busted up, and i just hope his corner have the sense to pull him out before his face gets totally trashed. He cuts and marks up like Katsidis he will be a real mess by the end of this fight unless Pavlik knocks him out early.
Can't see it lasting more than 5 rounds

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Im so glad Kelly is predictable. Since his amature days Ive been predicting victory after victory and KO after KO. The run will continue for the GHOST and YOUNGSTOWN, haters will hate, but we just shrug them off and knock that ass out.

He will no doubt slight him in some way but I don't think Joe is the one ducking anyone..(cough)Warren(cough)...

To be honest with you, I don't think Kelly has many haters. The comments from Locket have been very respectable IMO, yes he said he's predictable, but that is pretty true, he also said he's a great fighter and I think that most fans are in agreement that Kelly is a great at what he does, but what he does is pretty straight forward and been working great for him so far.

Lockett has been very respectful, a true gentleman. Enzio running his mouth, although doing his job, falls right in line with the hater comment. I think Pavlik has finally earned the respect of the boxing world.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
according to boxingtalk Lockett's a 25-1 underdog

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
looking at the majority of these posts i can see another royjones junior type clan all loving pavlik dont get me wrong i think he awsome but since his first ko of taylor and then his 12 round decision in the second fight ultimate respect to pavlik for fighting jermaine again even knowing it was risky because he showed he can hit the canvas. But lets be real jermaine was shi or lets say less than great he couldnt stay central in the ring loved backing off to the ropes and i read a couple of articles in the paperquoting jermaine and i personally think isnt even intrested anymore.
I would love to see pavlikk push for big names at supermiddleweight because thats where the money is for him i want to see joe kelly maybe but more after kessler has had a couple of tune ups kelly mikkel i think that would be the clash nof the titans.

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
pavlik's a heavy hitter... it dont matter if he's a lil predictable... lol

I don't think this is a RJJ type clan at all. Some of those Ohio boys are real highly on him but that is to be expected. But how can you not praise Pavlik highly when he is compared to Gary Lockett (both before and after the fight).

Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
:LMAO:
Max Kellerman's got to work on his sensitivity skills. Poor Lockett was still in the ring when Max asked Pavlik: "So how long you going to keep fighting the Gary Locketts of the world?" He may as well just have said "bums" instead of mentioning poor ol' Gary. Talk about adding insult to injury.
-
Re: Pavlik is predictable - Lockett
Lockett was'nt exactly right with his prediction. :-\

Fans love Kelly more than the average Joe because he is such a genuinely humble person. If Kelly is not a nice guy then I wouldnt be a fan:)

This made me laugh too. Did you notice how Pavlik took a look over to see if Lockett heard it before responding? He wanted to make a blanket statement I think without rubbing the salt in too hard.

LMAO... I sure did. Kelly's a classy guy. He probably felt like whispering to Kellerman: "Shhhhh... not so loud."
