Countdown for Cotto-Margarito!! Let's talk here (video added)

I just read on 2 different sites that HBO has confirmed that they will do a "Countdown" to this fight.

Dan Rafael from ESPN said that HBO's comments were something like "Due to the outrage from the fans and media alike we've decided to do a countdown"

I think a countdown WILL add that much more flare & fuel to the fight.

The countdowns are usually much better than the fights themselves. Always like to see fight build ups and documentarys

Good, they made the right choice!

This fight doesn't need much hype but the documentaries are always interesting and of course, helps get the casual fan interested.

I think POB's letter to them might of changed there mind good work bro ;)

The thing is with these "countdown" shows.. The only reason they get made is to SELL the fight.

Although WE (hardcore fans) obviously enjoy and want them, they're not aimed at us.

We KNOW the likes of Cotto-Margarito is a 100% guaranteed classic and will watch at any cost.

I don't know about Margarito but no disputing how big Cotto is in Puerto Rico they go crazy for him. Even the ones in New York.

As far as Home country Oh no doubt about it On Cotto's end,He could walk on water and not get wet In Puerto Rico.......as well as over here (States) ;D.I'd say they are both house hold names in the Mayweather House....Mr.Step aside himself as opposed to agreeing to meet the winner in mega welter Champion Clash.Margarito is abit under the radar as far as Main stream cross over media but The fans know of him...or should!Both are due and deserve as much acknowlegment as they recieve....Love this match up,My 'name' is riding on it ;D

Countdowns usually rely heavily on a narrator anyways, so any language barrier wont be a factor. I read a few weeks back they were doing the countdown for this on one of my ventures to the Cotto forum. Very good news.

This will be the first fight I am not going to log on to my PC to see, or hope TSN shows it here in Canada (only to be delayed by something stoopid like Nascar).

Have already got my friends place and big screen TV booked for it. No way in hell I am missing this fight!

I think i'm going to be on the slopes when this fight happens, I hope they have some form of bar with foxtel up there but doubt it :( Going to be going over download limit that much getting it :P

Sometimes I wonder about the cerebral capabilities of those making the decisions at HBO Sports/Boxing. For example, Larry Merchant has been stumping for a fight between Cotto and Mayweather, mostly after fights either of them are involved in. Most will agree that although Cotto is deserving, what is going to make the fight happen is more exposure for Cotto outside the hard core boxing fan. So, it logically follows that a countdown show would provide the needed exposure to Cotto AND Margarito (whom, I don't care what anyone says, Floyd ducked). So, the countdown is a no-brainer. The fact that this will be one of the all-time great Puerto-Rico vs. Mexico fights makes it even more logical. I don't know what HBO was thinking.

I believe it was Showtime that did a Raf v Izzy mini-series before the third fight. No English, but great series.

Was just about to cancel mine after the pavlik-lockett showdown until it came on about cotto-marg as well as torres-holt!!

Well I just watched the countdown show, and I think they did great job with it.

I got the chills watching it, and thinking about what is going to happen one week from tonight.

It was great to see a side of Miguel, that we don't get to see. I loved it when they showed him goofing around, and laughing with his friends.

Of course my favorite part, was when Miguel had his pants pulled down while he was cooking. :lickish:

It was touching to see Tony get emotional when talking about when his brother was killed. I teared up a bit. :eek:

All I know, is that this is going to be the longest week, waiting for this fight to come.

What did you guys think of the show?

Oh well, time for me to go and watch it again, I have to put the pulling the pants down scene in slow motion, to see if I can see anything. ;D

I might just stay up the entire 5 hours to see this countdown show. It shouldn't take that long.

Ive yet to see the entire countdown but what i seen of it so far its looking classic..

Seems like one of the best ive seen yet.. mainly considering people look forward to this fight more then alot of fights in recent memory or maybe because theres further insight into both cotto and margarito which you just havent been able to get elsewhere or in previous countdowns all that often..

super funny seeing the lighter side of cotto..

and great seeing tony's story and his relationship with his trainer especially in contrast to miguels relationship with his trainer and uncle..

I've watched it 3 times already, and probably will watch it many more before the fight. Good stuff. Like Cotto alot, no doubt, but Tony's my boy and I just love listening to him. And watching him tear up talking about his brother touched me deeply.

This is the fight of the year hands down. Been waiting for it for so long, The countdown showed great sides of both fighters. Trully I think Margarito is so much more deserving to be put into the publics eye and get a piece of the pie.

Can't wait. No that Pacquiao has been beating us up at at the lower weights, perhaps MArgarito can get us back into the upper echelons of the boxing world.
