Does it bother you...
If your favorite fighter(s) are "hated" on?
I won't say I've never been annoyed by somebody's comments on some of my favorite fighters (when a guy is accused of ducking somebody when I didn't think there was a good case for it) but overall I don't think it bothers me that bad. I'm not gonna lose any sleep if somebody (PAC fans I'm looking at you) calls Joan Guzman boring.
Just seems like some get so worked up about it and I'm not sure why?
BTW I've said some really hateful things about Paulie Malignaggi in the last twenty four hours, I apologize in advance to those that are offended ;D
-
Re: Does it bother you...
I would hope no one would ever call Joan Guzman boring.
My favorite 2 fighters are Winky Wright and Jeff Lacy. Obviously I can't get to annoyed when people say all the things they say about them otherwise I would spend all my time yelling over the internet at people from all ends of the spectrum who hate on Lacy in particular.
I just get bothered by stupidity, that's my main thing and thankfully there isn't an abundance of it on here. Doesn't really matter if they are my favorite fighter or a fighter I really like (like Guzman), reading stupid posts bother me whether they are about Lacy or even Calzaghe. I'm not a huge Mayweather fan, especially outside of the ring but the irrational type of hate that Danny G has where someone is so consumed by hate that a fighter can literally do nothing right. That bothers me more then anything.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Also, don't worry about Malignaggi he has no fans. Actually I think he has one but it's not because he's Paulie Malignaggi it's because he's from Brooklyn.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Guzman wasn't boring against Soto. He impressed me for the first time.

It really doesn't take much to find an exciting Guzman fight. All you have to do is just not watch the last 8 rounds against Barrios where he had a hand to protect.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
It annoys me to an extent. People have said Calzaghe (although not really one of my favourite fighters) would lose to Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins, and although I expected the "Hopkins was old" stuff now say Lacy and even Kessler were overrated. That sort of stuff annoys me a bit.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
I can usually roll with it.What really gets me is how easily some people tear down a fighter they do not care for and in the process tear down alot of there competition,Other fighters.
Its one thing to find fault with a guy's style, temperament, public displays etc and performance in a fight but I try to refrain from the broad brush slight on alot of there fellow fighters,"He was a bum,He was s!!!,did not show heart" etc
-
Re: Does it bother you...
I get annoyed when folk look back and say 'yeh but that fighter was shot'
Examples: Hopkins vs Calzaghe, Tszyu - Hatton
It sorta takes away from someone's achievements. Especially when nobody was saying they were shot before the fight.

Sorry, but you know nothing of Danny, because if you did, you would not be making an ignorant statement like that.
To say that he is consumed by hate, is completely ridiculous, and a statement based on utter lack of knowing a person.
Does Danny dislike Mayweather? Of course he does, so do a lot of other people, including me.
Does he make a lot of video's and pics to make Mayweather look like an idiot? Of course, so what. Mayweather is an easy target, and so are his fans. Do you not get that he makes those things not out of hate for Mayweather, but just to wind up his fans? Why? Because it works everytime.
So because he's creative, and likes to have fun baiting Mayweather fans, you are going to label him as someone who is consumed with hate?
It doesn't bother him when people attack him, but, it does bother me. I don't like it when people attack him personally, just because he has a twisted sense of humor, and likes to have fun and push peoples buttons. Danny is one person that is not consumed by hate at all, and is probably the most forgiving person that I know. He teaches me about forgiveness everyday, because I am a person that holds grudges, and he always tells me to let it go, because it is not worth it.
Sorry, but that statement really bothers me, because that statement is sooooooo far from the truth of what kind of a person Danny is.

That's what I mean, specially with Hatton, I seem to remember about 90% of the forum predicting Tszyu to knock him out in just a few rounds, even the experts said it......and quite rightly too, Tszyu totally hammered Mitchell beforehand. I'm certain no one rated Hatton higher than Mitchell at any point before Hatton beat Tszyu also.
It was one win that no one can ever take away from him IMO

Danny's Floyd posts make my day sometimes, the guy knows how to have a laugh, cracking sense of humour.

Re: Does it bother you...
I agree that people tend to become geniuses about a fighter after he loses a fight but as long as they say it before the fight I don't have a problem with it. If you say a guy's underrated or shot before the fight that's one thing. Personally I thought Castillo was past it before Hatton beat him.
But I didn't say anything about Lacy being overrated and neither did a lot of people. In retrospect he was overrated to some extent, just look at the Kessler, and Hopkins fights and you can see the difference between those guys and Lacy on that night.
But I agree people do try to tear down other fighters.
BTW I didn't think Tsyzu was shot (wasn't prime but wasn't shot) and I still don't.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
I can't say it does. The only time I am bothered is if the person doing the hating is using dumb things like a loss that the fighter suffered way past his best years and that is the whole merit of the argument. If a person brings up valid points on why they dislike him then I can't really be to ruffled about it.
I do get annoyed when a person refuses to acknowledge a fighters accomplishments. When that happens I just bow out because you can tell it is leading nowhere and is not worth the debate.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Eh, don't want to make to much of this. I'm a fan of Danny's videos I go on that boxinghumor site all the time but and I was just citing one example, when he actually posts about Floyd there isn't much objectivity there. And he's done it plenty of times without making a funny video to boot, where he's criticized Floyd for just about everything whether it makes sense or not. And most of it isn't rational, just "F Floyd and if you're a Fraud fan F you too" and like I said that's the type of stuff that does bother me. I don't know him just know him by what he posts on here like everyone else. Hopefully that's the end of it.

Yeh and having that opinion before the fight and sticking it to it afterwards is perfectly acceptable.
I know a,lot of folk on here who said Castillo was a 50/50 fight and then went on to say hatton only won because Castillo was shot.
I personally don't think either fighter was shot....nor at their best. I do think that even at their best, Hatton would probably still win.....but i'm a Hatton fan so i suppose i would say that!.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Well...its pretty easy to hate...there is always a reason to find... to stick to your boxer not only through the ups,but more importantly through the down... thats hard...I'm a Sturm fan and when he was knocked out by Castillejo I was devastated and I really didn't need what some of the members here posted afterwards...actually it was something what Starr(wherever she might be right now...)said that made me feel a bit better...So just remember when you put again hate on a fighter it should be reasonable...everything else is just disrespectful for the fans...
-
Re: Does it bother you...
It does a little especially when people say Kosta was shot, Castillo shot, Maussa bum etc.
I just wanna say to everyone as well I'm a massive Hatton fan though I love boxing in general. I especially love British domestic fights involving Carl Johansson, Esham Pickering etc on Sky and do RBR's for them from time to time. I woke up at 3AM to watch Pavlik-Taylor 2, if I was just a Hatton fan why would I bother getting my ass up at 3AM ?? JT Rock stated "Lefty is a Hatton fan not a boxing fan". Thats bullshit. Thats like saying Danny G is only a Cotto fan or ds91 just a Hopkins fan just because we have our favourites. Why don't I have an account on the Hatton forum ?? I'm also a massive David Haye fan. I'm even a big Amir Khan fan (Though his opposition sometimes irritates me) and I'm a Michael Katsidis fan. Ask ICB me and him had a big debate over who has the better record, Khan or Froch. That comment from JT wound me up but I'm over it now. I know I dislike Mayweather but I admire his skill and respect his game, I've said that a couple of times before.

Re: Does it bother you...
So true lefty
worst thing i ever did was signing up with this username as people now automatically assume im gay for hatton and will defend the guy at every corner.
Id like to believe im subjective enough to criticise even someone like hatton who i travelled a good 100 miles and spent silly amounts of money just to see him fight saturday.
Great fighters who you have an affiliation for will come and go over the years, the sport of boxing however will be here when we are all long gone and its natural to wanna savour every single great fight/fighter just as much as the next man.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Tyson haters would throw me off my feed. More so the ones who didn't follow boxing and just hated him because it was fashionable to diss him at cocktail parties.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
I can't even bring myself to support a fighter who is well liked by people on this forum.
I'm antagonistic by nature and so automatically gravitate to those fighters who other's despise, Floyd, Froch, Margarito, Mayorga etc.
Fighters like Winky, Barrera, Mijares (especially fucking Mijares) and Fatton just bore me to tears. But I'm sure if Mijares got convicted for animal cruelty or wife battering and everyone started hating on him, he'd get one new fan at least ;)
-
Re: Does it bother you...
Your Mijares obsession surprises me a bit for the simple fact that there are a lot of people on here who probably don't even know who he is, or at the least have never seen him fight.

Re: Does it bother you...
I try really, really hard not to disrespect any fighter too much. For example, I can't stand Mayweather - big surprise there - but I respect what he does, and what he's accomplished. I try really hard to respect anybody with the guts to step in the ring and compete - even if I can't stand the person, or the persona.
I'm sick enough to watch two guys beat each other to a bloody pulp and call it entertainment...the least I can do is show a little respect.

That's really my view as well. At the end of the day no boxer who has achieved world class status should be disrespected by those who enjoy watching the sport, barring something inhumane thing they may do out of the ring or what not. I won't say it doesn't irritate me to hear irrational hate on a fighter by those who are basically nuthuggers, but I think to really get worked up enough about it you'd have to be just as deluded with lust for your favourite as they are.
-
Re: Does it bother you...
It bothers me when people say 'this fighter is ducking so and so' and this guy's scared of that guy'
They're professional boxers. They fight for a living. I find it really hard to believe that they fear any particular fighter.
I hate how some disrespect fighters for not taking a certain fight at a certain time. Who are we to tell them who to fight. It's their career.

I would think it would be hard for you to get mad at people if they hated on Kassim Ouma. I mean, it is Kassim Ouma after all

Re: Does it bother you...
Doesn't really bother me if people hate on a guy I like. Hell, I get tough on fighters I like as much as fighters I don't like. Well, maybe not as tough as I get on Kermit Cintron; a guy I despise with a passion.
I have alot of respect for guys who risk their health in that ring, so I try not to be too judgemental, though guys like Cintron who are quitters make me sick. And queers like Malinaggi that act more like their in a fashion show than a fight make my blood boil.
I guess though it takes all kinds, so I just try to enjoy the fights. After all, these guys are risking their health, so I try not to be too harsh on them, as long as they give it their all.
My daily non-sensical rant.

Many moons ago when I was new here yes.
Now I've learned to ignore the ignorant fools that post nonsense. I've also learned to see the good posts that make sense and valid points against some of my fav. fighters.

Not at all, well at least not anymore but it used to. My favorite fighters PAC, PAV and COTTO have already proven themselves time and time again.

Pac was equally accountable for that boring fight . He was the younger fighter so why didnt he fight at pace or make Barrera engage
Barrera was old and it was his last fight. He just wanted to cruise through 12 rounds to prove that the 1st fight was a fluke. What Pacs excuse ?

Obviosly PAC was comfortable in outboxing MAB instead of slugging it out and in turn might get himself caught and kayoed by a an OLD MAB. What's wrong with that performance anyways? As far as I can remember JMM struggled vs MAB when they fought, PAC on the otherhand won by a LANDSLIDE:)

It was boring. Isnt Pac supposed to be an exciting fighter ? He was fighting a washed up Mexican coming off a loss . He should have atleast tried to make it a spectacle.
