Montiel looked pretty good last night
Maldonaldo wasn't on his level but Montiel did what he should have done, came out ready to go. Maldonado is the guy that Donaire stopped in 8 last time (didn't see that honestly).
Its not the greatest broadcast. For some reason it skips like a minute of the fight in the second round and like 30 seconds of it in the third. Picture's not great either. But its enough to see basically how he looked, pretty nasty finish.

Nice one OumaFan.Hoping to see this.Montiel has to be one of the more proficient body punchers in the sport today.....easily.Again he looked pretty accurate,a bit wide in spots in first but brought it together and had gritty Maldonado lifting his feet up,Brutal finish.Maldanado again takes alot of punishment after Donaire spent 8 rounds sharpshooting him also....His reactions to shots is pronounced.

Yeah Montiel was a bit careless at times and a bit wide, probably a bit of that had to do with overconfidence but he does do that from time to time.
I didn't like how Maldonado was taking shots, a very pronounced reaction.

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
I want to see Montiel-Mijares. It's time. I'll take Montiel.
-
Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
I guess I'd take Mijares. Wouldn't put a whole lot of money on it.
-
Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Montiel use to be boxer-puncher. That's not the case any more. He's become almost a seek and destroy fighter. Nobody has ever destroy Maldonado like that. Not Darchinyan. And not Donaire. Mijares is a great fighter. But I think Montiel is better. I think Montiel would crush Donaire, Darchinyan and any other Flyweight or Super Flyweight

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Has Donaire talked much about moving up?
There are still fights to be made at 112, Kameda, Sakata, guys like that.

As much as Ive come to respect Mijares Tactically ,I can see Montiels body accuracy and power squashing alot of Mijares movement.Im abit on the fence but off the top I lean towards Montiel....Has been devestating lately. This fight must be made asap, great fight.

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
I really have no idea who I would pick in Mijares - Montiel. My guess is a very controversial decision. One of the best fights to be made imo, again I really have no clue who I would pick to be the winner and it's not often I'm just blanked. Montiel might be the more complete fighter, he can go both ways a little better then Mijares I think but that's not a slight to Mijares. With a gun to my head I would probably go with Montiel for that reason but I think without a doubt it'd be a great fight. Watched Mijares - Munoz for the first time last night and was again very impressed with how good Mijares is.
Thanks for the video.

I consider Donaire as the more technical and has more power than Z Gorres and Gorres gave Montiel a close fight... Tho as what many said here that it seems Montiel improved a lot after the Gorres bout...

Problem is the Japanese are not interested in fighting Donaire... Also Donaire is really a 115 pounder, he moved down to 112 to fight Darchinyan and avenged his brother's loss to Darchi...

No offer has even been made to Kameda's people.

Darchinyan put him away too. I think it was in the 6th round.
I enjoyed watching Montiel-Gorres. That was a very competitive match. Neither one of them could floor the other. I still think the Gorres point deduction was bullshit.

Mijares would box Montiel's ears off.

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Looks like he's an Erik Morales fan with his feints and stance.
Right now, Montiel would knock out Arce.

I'm a fan of Arce but Arce is hardly someone who factors into the top of the division anymore. He may not be totally shot but he's on the road to it.

I didn't mean Arce was shot. Arce still has it.
I say Carlos can crack granite with that style of his.

Sucks that the fight is cut off.
I just saw the fight now and it's missing some really good work by Montiel.

As I've said time and time again Montiel had just finished fighting at Bantam (moved up in weight) vs. Jhonny.
It was his 1st move up in weight, I would say that had a lot to do with it.
But no excuses he won the fight and that's what matters.

Yeah I've decided I'm going with Mijares too. Its a very even fight though. But as good as Montiel has looked in the past two fights, three fights ago against Melendez he had some sketchy moments. And he has frozen up a bit on the big stage before. I don't really think he will again in a Mijares fight but its at least something to think about.
Like VD said though, he definitely has become more aggressive lately.

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Can't wait for Montiel/ Mijares, I really hope they get this done.
Put me down for Montiel.
But its a great fight either way!!!
-
Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
If there were boxing gods..
Vazquez/Marquez 4 (sometimes I wonder if they should even fight again but if they're gonna do it I'll watch) with Montiel/Mijares as the co-feature.
I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't pay attention to it cause there would be nobody over 122 pounds but I don't really care.
-
Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Every single picture I see of Marquez and Vazquez they are both holding up 4 fingers. Would have to think that's going to happen.
That got me thinking, has there ever been a trilogy where a 4th fight was wanted so much? I mean usually the 3rd fight provides ultimate closure but it's just not the case. If either guy fights again I hope it's against each other I would hate to see either lose against anyone else it just wouldn't be right. Like Pacquiao beating both Morales and Barrera after their trilogy it has never sat well with me.

Re: Montiel looked pretty good last night
Montiel's shots sounded extremely hard on the video
