Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
This could be a fight which could possibly happen at some stage, but if it were to happen who would think would win and why?
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Right now I think Ortiz would brutalize Khan. Ortiz is very good, a southpaw with power who has a killer right hook. I know Khan wouldn't be able to jump in at Ortiz, Ortiz has nice timing he would catch Khan. Not to mention he's 2 divisions bigger. Well maybe he's 140 but he's as big as a welterweight and most of his fights have been at some sort of catch weight.
This one can wait. Khan still has a lot of work to do I'm really not blown away by him like others are. Nice prospect but not a contender yet and certainly not ready to jump divisions and take on the best.
I always forget about Ortiz when I talk about 140 despite him being one of my favorite fighters. He's not to far off of a title belt.
There is a changing of the guard that is going to occur pretty soon at 140. Peterson, Ortiz, Alexander are the future of that division, Khan would fall to all of them imo.

Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Ortiz all the way...
I think boxes well early on but get's careless and Victor catches 'em...
I like both kids, both very talented in their respective styles but I feel Victor has the edge. One thing that should be noted is Victor can box. I know he's known as a puncher but the kids box as wel...

Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Ortiz would torture Con. Con wouldn't make it out the 2nd round
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
I'm high on Ortiz but for me as a prospect he's not active enough, at least lately. Needs to fight every couple months.

Completely agree with this statement.
I mentioned this on one of the YouTube videos of his that he needs to fight more often.

Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Ortiz would have to be insane to go back down to 135 and fight khan.
Too many possibilitys for him at 140/147 to even think about fighting at lightweight.
Khan will only come up to 140 when he is either an established world champ at 135 or warren doesnt wanna risk him against casa/nate and sees his chances much better at LW
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Didn't Ortiz get dropped in his last fight?
Despite that I think it would be an easy win for Ortiz!
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Khan stopped Ortiz in the amateurs ;)
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
I've only seen Ortiz fight once but he looks physically bigger than Khan. I think Khan is a better boxer though.

:o You do know that Ortiz was "tortured" and didn't make it past 2 rounds when he fought "Con" in the amateurs in 2003??
I doubt that he would torture Khan, Khan is much more technically skilled than Ortiz and would probably stop him in the late rounds. Saying that Khan does need to tighten up his defense a bit more, other than that he is coming along perfectly. People keep saying he fightin bums etc but thats due to Warren, Khan will soon be leaving him, you heard it here first!

Don't worry about VD, he just hates British boxers. It doesn't matter if Khan becomes pound for pound number one, VD still won't rate him.
Personally I'm hoping Casamayor keeps winning so that eventually Khan can KO him.

Con will keep winning. No doubt. Especially considering the shot fighters and bums he's facing. Seriously does anybody really think Gomez has a chance?

its all down to how much you rate Khan in the first place...
I think Gomez might just shock a few people mate ;)
he aint the fighter he used to be but if he connects he'll hit Khan harder than hes ever been hit.
really supprised with this matchup as Gomez has a good chance of winning this IMO i think they are underestimating him BIGTIME ;)

Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Yeah Khan is someone who has legitimate problems with his chin. I think that's been more then proven and until then I can't possibly pick Khan against anyone with a talent and some pop. And the lightweight division is one with a bunch of a power, I mean even Casamayor has a ton of power, one shot power. And then go jump a division and possibly even 2 and match Khan up against a guy with huge power? I don't care what they did with headgear on I don't see how anyone picks Khan in that matchup when he has this giant red flag in his chin.
If Khan's chin is half as bad as it looks like it might be, he isn't going to win a lot of fights against the top tier charging forward recklessly. Hate to be so down but finally they matched him up with someone who isn't a powder puff puncher, let's see how he reacts. If he gets hit flush and keeps coming then I'll ease off the brake pedal a bit.

But even if he eventually ends up p4pno1 you'll still not rate him, will you?

Gomez will be dangerous for about six rounds then he'll gas like last time out. I wonder if he'll try and throw rights over the top or will he just throw his left hook. Still don't see him beating Khan though.

So if Audley Harrison all of a sudden became heavyweight champion will you all of a sudden say he's good? Come on now, there's just some things you just know will not happen. Con will never, ever be p4p number 1. Take that to the bank.

Just imagine that Con isn't British. Pretend he's Cuban and bald. You'd definitely rate him more than you do now.
Personally I think he's got flaws, especially a susceptibility to overhand rights, but he's still one of the top few prospects in the game. If he wasn't British you'd rate him.

Find me a thread where I said Con was garbage and had no talent. You won't find one. Con is very talented. I've always said that. But I've also said he's overrated. Because he is. You Con fans are making it seem like Con has already proven himself. I've read ridicules things that Con can beat Campbell, Casamayor and other top fighters. How? Based on what? His win over a shot C level fighter Graham Earl? Now I'm reading crap that the Gomez fight is going to be competitive. :lolhaha: Give me a fukking break. Gomez is 3-3 in last 6 fights. He just went the distance in his last fight against a fighter who was 11-28. He is shot. His best win was 5 years ago. Con groupies are hyping him up so when he goes out in 2 rounds they can start praising Con even more. Come now. Who you guys trying to fool? Fact is Con has faced feather-fisted fighters since he turned pro. Now he's facing a decent puncher for the first time. And that decent puncher is beyond shot. I personally don't care that Con is from the UK. I just say it like it is. Yurkios Gamboa is another highly touted prospect. And he's Cuban like you said. I also think he's highly overrated.

I'm pleased to see you agree he's talented.
I don't think he's proved himself at all. I think he could do with a few more fights before he goes near one of the top lightweights, and even then his chin is questionable.
The Gomez fight is a step backwards. If Khan wins in the first round it doesn't prove anything. You've got to admit that you never rate British fighters.

I'll rate any fighter that deserves to be rated. I don't care where he's from. Violent D does not discriminate. He doesn't believe in it.

Gomez doesn't have the punch resistance to last six rounds. He never had a great chin in his superfeather pomp.
Khan will KO him quick.

Khan has dodgy chin, for sure. Chances are he'll lose sooner rather than later because of it.
But Ortiz was hurt and dumped on his arse by a journeyman last time.
Lets be fair ;)

Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Amir Kahn absolutely pulverised him in the amatuers.
Ortiz is obviousy bigger than Kahn now, so Kahn would have to settle for completely embarassing him instead.
-
Re: Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
I only saw highlights of Ortiz' last fight so didn't know he was dropped. Still, he's the bigger and I've never been short of impressed anytime I've seen him.
