Who you guys think will win and how?
I voted Cotto, sheerly because I want him to.
I feel if he is to win this fight he must employ his boxing and his movement.
Although a taller fighter Margaritois not incredibly effective on the outside so Cotto should dictate the range and be the boxer.
Two words: Joshua Clottey. Cotto is similarly-sized and can keep up the same workrate that garnered Clottey the early rounds. Cotto is known for his power, but Mosley acknowledged that he's faster than he looks. So long as Cotto doesn't go looking for a knockout because Margarito is just one of those guys who either doesn't go or doesn't go easily, he'll do fine. Margarito will open up and find Cotto has enough power to leave a sour taste in his mouth. Margarito will get popped often and find that his opponent similarly has a distaste for the canvas. I'd say there may be a flash knockdown or two from either side, but it will be a fairly one-sided victory for Cotto.
And like hitmandonny, I just want him to win.
Hmmmm, guess who I voted for? :mwink:
As long as Cotto is more the boxer than the brawler, I think he can win this pretty easily. He does have underestimated speed, but I think that some also underestimate his ring smarts, and his ability to make adjustments.
Margarito has an iron chin, so Cotto is really going to have to work the body, and with Margarito being taller, I think that it will only help Cotto in being able to bang to his body.
I would not be surprised if Margarito hurts Cotto, but Cotto has more than proven his heart, and his will, when faced with adversity. His strong determination to win will help him through any tough moment IMO.
I believe Cotto has the boxing ability to defeat Margarito in a unanimous decision. The problem for Cotto is that he will be pressured from the opening bell. Margarito will be physically stronger than Cotto. Margarito will be able to maintain his pressure throughout the entire fight. And Margarito can hurt Cotto either to the body or to the head. This will be a fight that Cotto will be STUPID to stand and brawl with Margarito. Cotto will have to stick and move, jab, and flurry all night long, basically staying out of danger for the entire fight. This is one of those fights that Cotto and all of his fans should be happy with a victory no matter how it comes because the styles clash negatively for Cotto. Cotto will not KO or impose physical damage as he has against other opponents. The fact that he won't is a testament to Margarito as opposed to a negative of Cotto's boxing ability. I still say Cotto will be able to hit Margarito cleanly all night long and puff up Margarito's face. He's just so easy to hit, but definitely hard to KO. More than ever, Cotto will have to show once and fo all that he can box with the best of them. I think he will show it if he hasn't already.
If margarito doesnt have him out of there by 6 (which he probably wont) i just cant look past a cotto late stoppage.
Margarito can fight, cotto can box as well as fight - As long as he is controlled in his approach that should be the difference between the 2!!
pretty confident in Cotto winning this one to be fair. Maybe a late stoppage...i know Margarito has a rock chin, but i think there will come a point when the speed will come into it and cotto will land many hard unanswered shots and that mite just be enough for the ref to stop in.
I'd say Cotto, so long as he doesn't get pulled into a brawl. If it goes the route of the slugfest, then I think Tony has a really good shot.
I can see I am in the minority here because I picked Margarito. I feel that he will be able to absorb the Cotto shots like no other of Cottos opponents while giving back just as hard as he receives.
This is not going to be a boxing match it is going to be a fight. Tony is not going to back peddle a single second and that is going to get Cotto mentally. Then physically.
We are not talking about Paul Malignaggi who will oblige by taking abuse all night, this is not a past his better days Shane Mosley who will be trying to use speed so he can score points while trying out boxing Cotto.
This is Antonio Margarito, a version of Margarito who is no longer content just being champion, a version that learned his lesson in the Williams fight.
I can't wait for this one.
I'm gonna have to punk out and be undecisive on this one. There are just too many questions im my book. After the first two rounds i'd be able to answer (but that wouldn't count huh) but as of now i have it a toss up. I think most will agree as long as it isn't a brawl cotto should have an easy time, but i think he will be out to impress and things could go bad if that happens.
I'm picking Cotto by split decision, coming off the canvas to win, or at least coming off being very hurt. At some point, He's going to trade with Tony and Tony is probably the biggest hitter he's been up against. Around the 4th or 5th round, Tony will catch him with perfect uppercut/hook combo and get Cotton in trouble. Cotto goes down or hangs on to get through the round. Tony wins the next two rounds while Cotto is getting himself together, then comes on strong using his superior boxing skill.
;DWell , is obvious , isnt it? , Cotto will comes in the first 5-6 rounds to work to the body first to wear out Margaro and then outbox for use his speed and technical boxing , Cotto know that need to do that for stop a the Margaros rythm he throw a lot shots , Cotto had improve his defense and will be more cautious of the Margaros uppercut theres no doubt on that , so everytimes when he comes to fight , comes with new skills and i know for this fight he will comes with something new for surprise.... ;D
I bet to Cotto in the 8-10 by KO , or UD , it doesnt matter how Cotto finish this fight , we know that will going to be a Great fight........;D
I picked Cotto..Too classy, too fast, too skilled for Margarito who's only obvious advantages over Cotto in this fight are his chin and his reach IMO. I may be wrong but whatever the outcome this will be a sick fight
I am in agreement with most boxing fans in that i just cannot see this being anything other than a barnstormer.
I am going with the minority and going for a Margarito win in about 9-10 rounds. While i agree that Cotto will win if he becomes the boxer, but i think his macho pride will drag him into a war. Margarito has a great chin, Cottos gone over or been wobbled a few times and although he has always recovered quickly i think Margarito will finish him.
Styles make fights.
Cotto UD, just too good.
I'm surprised at how many people think Cotto is going to rely on his boxing ability moreso then banging Margarito out. Or at least how many of them think if he brawls that he loses.
The way I see it Cotto has the faster hands on the inside that he can well afford to go inside and try to impose himself on Margarito maybe even move him back some. Margarito really doesn't have a good inside punch other then the uppercut. Granted Cotto is seemingly open to the uppercut but it's still a slow punch.
I'm torn on how he wins but I've got little doubt that he does. Just think he's the better fighter and when Cotto gets hurt it's with punches that come out of nowhere and Margarito just doesn't have anything like that.
^ Yeah I agree, I think he can mix in some of the boxing and moving but he doesn't have to rely on that, he's got the better defense and shorter straighter quicker punches that he can use on the inside.
Cotto by UD or TKO. I see him mixing it up - taking it to Margarito, boxing him, taking a few rounds off and when he finds the right openings (which he will) working the hell out of Tony.
I went with Tony. Could go either way, went with the guy who I think has the tougher chin.
If Margarito could walk through Cintrons best shots he will take Cotto's but Cotto won't beable to take his Margarito by KO inside 5 rounds
I'm picking Margarito by late round TKO.Cotto is improved and I do see both susceptible to body but I think Tony can get Cotto on his heels and in between styles.Great fight.
Cotto can take a UD if he uses his jab and movement and avoid fighting on the inside. I have a small feeling that Cotto could maybe take out Margarito with a body shot but thats probably very unlikely.
I have posted in the past that this will win fight of the year honors unless something crazy happens. Man flying into the ring,Ear being bit off etc. I would have said Cotto a year ago but as we get closer and we've seen what he has done to Cintron I've got to go with Margarito. He's big, strong, solid jaw,and throws way too many punches. Don't get me wrong I think Cotto could outbox him with the jab but Margarito eats punches and just keeps coming. Margarito will outwork him, break his spirit and stop him in 10.
i think Cotto will win by judge robbery.
I see inconsistancys with tonys game plan i just dont see in cottos.
Miguel will look to fight the first 4-5 rounds at a gentle pace slowly working away with that left hand and looking to lead in before working away on the inside late on.
If that doesnt work im quite sure cotto will have no problems going toe to toe with marg and seeing who can throw the harder more damaging shots.
Antonio HAS to dictate the pace of the fight to win it, cotto doesnt. That will prove to be a telling factor!!!
I want Cotto to win because I am a fan. I wouldn't be horribly disappointed or even terribly surprised if he did lose to Margarito tho, as I do respect Margo.
It would just piss me off that it would give PBF a way out of fighting Cotto (and I do believe floyd would do just that).
I'm going for a late round stoppage, TKO.
Difficult to say... People keep saying Cotto by stoppage, even though Margarito has never been stopped and the last time he was on his ass was when he was a teenager fighting grown men.
I know Cotto is the goods, but I think its funny that people discount Margarito's durability and body of work at Welterweight.
To me Cotto has never been pressured, the way Tony brings it and I think we know about Tony's will and mental makeup, to me the jury is still out on Cotto. Miguel threw it in reverse when he couldnt break Shane down and boxed off the backfoot well, but Margarito comes at you with a differnt kind of pressure, he has excellent punch selection and everyone is nasty. Cotto needs to stay away from the ropes
This is a Pics of Cotto with Marc Ecko giving to him an exclusive Jacket for luxure in the fight ........................

Mark Ecko pissed himself ;D
Cotto looks in shape and still he has till July 26. good job so far
Can't make a pick yet heart say Tony, head say Cotto....Tony is a hot or cold type of fighter, so you never know what kind of performance your gonna get. This is very close IMO the one thing that sticks out is Tony's huge midsection and not so great defense. Then again he has never been stopped on a body shot or stopped at all. Cotto has a good chin but it isn't his strong point, this is one of those fights where anything could happen. If Tony can take Cotto's shots its gonna be a barnburner.
Is a curiosity to see how Margaro could assimilate Cottos power , i really want to see that , we all know how Cotto assimilate , but i dont think that Margaro can take Cottos shots.................;D
jeez you puerto ricans really are an impatient lot arent you.
For what its worth it`ll more than likely be the fight of the summer and one that the entire world will remember for a long time to come.
But its still a good few weeks away and we have 3 world championship fights coming up this weekend.......maybe we could perhaps worry about this a bit closer to the fight???
I think Cotto is a sucker for being macho. He'll get pulled in to the biggest brawl of his life. That much im sure of.
Cotto by TKO hopefully. Toney's got one hell of a chin, but perhaps cotto can put together some sick combos and flurries to have the ref waive it off by late stoppage.
I'm taking Cotto by UD
