Floyd Mayweather Jr Retires From Boxing - SHOCKER!
It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today. I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport.
I have said numerous times and after several of my fights over the past two years that I might not fight again. At the same time, I loved competing and winning and also wanted to continue my career for the fans, knowing they were there for me and enjoyed watching me fight. However, after many sleepless nights and intense soul-searching I realized I could no longer base my decision on anything but my own personal happiness, which I no longer could find. So I have finally made up my mind, spoken to my family, particularly my mother, and made my decision.
I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead, including the one right around the corner. But there comes a time when money doesn't matter. I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time.
Finally, I want to personally thank all of my fans for their loyalty and dedication as my career comes to a close. I always believed that their enthusiasm and support helped carry me to victory with every fight I ever had.
It was a great joy to have fought for all of you. Now I hope you understand my decision and wish me well with the rest of my life.

Then i have no problem seeing him go. There is nothing else he can prove in the sport. People only want to see him loose and now a comfortable millionare he will never give them that satisfaction. Good luck floyd i defended your stupidity outside the ring your whole career and have always respected what he did inside of it. He could beat ali in his prime and people would still talk shit, why take the abuse only to never recieve credit. I don't belive he was even in it for the same reason some others are, money was his main motivation. He has more than enough to keep him and his kids happy good move i say.

Hope it's not true; as I really want a fight with Cotto to happen.
Cotto needs to get vocal about this guy and pull him out of retirement.
When you have 40 plus million in the bank I am sure that you retire two or three times a day every day.
All I have to say is.......

Either that, or he's using it as a ploy to get more money out of ODLH!!! Which I would not doubt!!
I get the feeling that this time he means it - hope he doesn't but reckon he does
Will go down as a great but I can't help feeling that there was something missing from his career in that we never saw him truly tested in a toe to toe fight
Maybe that was just his style or maybe it was because he was that great but I think you all know what I mean;)
In all honesty Cotto has a very slim chance of beating Floyd... Based how much trouble Mosley gave Coto when using limited movement or the times when Malignaggi used movement Cotto was very ineffective in those moments. Floyd has much faster legs than either of them, not to mention defensive skills. I can't see Cotto beating Floyd.
Honestly thought PBF-ODLH II was a done deal for later on in the year.
Cant believe he has retired as their were still 2-3 massive paydays for floyd to have.
I suspect he`ll be back within a year or two as the lure of either cotto in vegas or hatton at wembley will be too much for PBF to turn down.
So what now for ODLH??
Shame realy, had faith floyd would fight the winner of cotto/toni and then retire, not like this though, not like this!
Now what realy sucks is some fucking how pac will be the p4p #1? WHAT THE FUCK - everyone knows the guy didn't even beat fucking JMM for christ sake; few losses and draws this is no P$P#1 at all.
Nah mate Oscar told us it aint signed yet in this interveiw....

So this could be codwash to get more money but to be honest i think Floyd sounds like someone who just dosnt love the game anymore and to be honest does he really need to fight? he has his health an outstanding careers and a shitload of money ((more than he and his family will ever need))
i personally think he should take the Cotto fight then retire and forget all the rematch talk.
and if he dosnt fight Cotto and does retire i think he'll regret it BIGTIME ;)
but if he aint going and this is just hot air the guy is a prick IMO ;)
I don't believe PBF is retiring. Something tells me he's up to something no good. I think he will be back next year.
Thats a crying shame.
Common Floyd, ONE big fight against the winnner of Cotto/Margarito and you can leave the game.
Manny Pacquiao new P4P number 1 - I'm up for it!!! ;D
This is why I hate Floyd. He's doing one of two things. He's either using a phoney retirement to hype the Oscar fight (and give himself an out for fighting Cotto) or he is just seriously ducking Cotto. Both things are punk moves. There are better ways to build a fight up.
Oh, my Daddy doesn't love me enough, so I need the attention of the boxing world begging me to come back, to prove that I'm important!! That's what his actions say to me. Shut up and grow up. Your freakin 30 years old. Jerk.
I'm still sceptical. Imagine how much money he could have made in the sham of a rematch with Oscar. And IF he really is retiring, would he please take Oscar with him. I have ZERO interest in seeing Oscar v Winky. In fact,I though Oscar looked very poor v Forbes!
What , Why he want to retire for then to return back ?:-\
For make Publicity , for call the Attention , for what? , I dont have any doubt that he is done , he dont need to do that , IMO maybe he want see if he could get a better offer with ODLH and who will win between Cotto/Margaro , for then return back............
To me this is an a Stupid thing , because he knows that if dont get a real good Purse with Oscar is because they know that most of Fans are not interesting to see that rematch ..............
I still thinking that this is an strategie , because try to remember what Tito Trinidad did when he retired , he did the same thing and earned some of good Purses......................
Now he knows that people want see him fight with Cotto , Margaro and others good and competitive fighters , if he do that , well he cant sit back and waiting for BEGGING..................
its nice to see boxers retire in good health and in good financial shape.
i see no reason for him to fight cotto its not like he has to prove anything to anyone.
there is always going to be a new opponent that people will say a champ must face before retiring to secure his legacy and if the champ beats that person then a new one will emerge it never ends.
mayweathers career is over he has secured his legacy and needs no one else on his resume to prove it.
Let's get this right this has nothing to do with Cotto or Margarito! I mean who he does not beleive in Floyds head no one could ever beat him? It may or may not be true but I'm pretty sure Floyd believes it; he's not scared of a fight! But if the fire is gone, Surely now he is most likely to lose if he does fight?
I know that he dont have to prove anything to anyone , but to me for be the best in WW Div. without any doubt , he must had to face with the best for clear the doubt , i know that he was real good in previous Div. , but in WW Div. and JMW Div. , he would have to demostrate more with others competitive fighters..................
Floyd IMO will always go down for ducking Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. When people in future say the name PBF I will think of that, not KO'ing Ricky Hatton or becoming 5 weight world champion but his blatant ducking of legitimate contenders. I expected more of Floyd and with all his skill it's disapointing for me to remember him like that.
I am truly gutted as a fan of Floyd, because I am selfish and dont care about him or his family or what Floyd wants I want him to step in the ring and risk his health and well being so I can sit on my couch intoxicated on a Saturday night and root for him like a gladiator in Rome I want him to keep fighting because I think he should fight this one or that one....
Now for the way I really feel...
Thanks Champ for being a great fighter for all these years, thanks for preparing hard and being the best you can be everytime and being in tip top shape mentally and physically.. Thanks for being a once in a genearation talent. Thanks for being an entertainer and a showman, even though you been outlandish at times you really understood how to maximize your earning potential in an unforgiving business that left many broken physically, mentally as well as destitute. Your a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer and one who realized what you had to do and did it your way. Enjoy your family, money and future success, it was with YOUR blood, sweat, tears and hard work that brought you to the highest level of achievment, enjoy it Floyd you certainly earned it
Thanks;)
I don't believe it. He hasn't been getting his fair share of headlines with all the Cotto/Margarito talk, so...yea. Time to make some headlines!
"Look at me, Look at me!"
:happy0931sb4:
:thankyouthankyou:
I think that this is just a promotional thing. I believe that Floyd does not want to take the risk of loosing to De La Hoya, who I belive he will beat again. If Cotto beats Margarito I can hear Floyd saying "I got my motivation back ($$$)".
Though many will be harsh with the Cotto/ Margarito talk, but if the guy dosent have the desire to fight anymore then why should he?
Fighting Delahoya at 154lbs wass more dangerous than either Cotto or Margarito, no one can convince me otherwise... No way either Cotto or Margarito beats Oscar at 154 not a snow balls chance in hell. So Floyd does not fear Cotto or Margarito, no damn way!
This really sucks as a fan, but this day always comes and you never want to acknowledge it:-\
I have high expectations for Andre Berto so I guess its time to pour my energy as a fan into him as well as Edison Miranda, David Haye Tony Margarito, Joe Calzaghe... I dont think I am ready to get on the Pac express just yet
I hope this is just talk. I will be really pissed of if he retires without fighting ethier Cotto or Mosely.
Please vote and discuss. :)
In my opinion, I think it's bad. He's a good character, and he contributed a lot in the boxing world.
im undecided really, i dont think he was as much of a big draw as many people think, never reached the level of DLH etc when it comes to popularity,
however it has robbed the fans of a potential great fight :-\
It's got to be porkie pies!!!!!Has'nt it??Of course he's talking shite again. He knows it'll start a BIG PR following by saying he is retiring.Dont hold your breath people........he's talking shite. He loves the attention and what attention is he gathering by saying things like that?I can tell you....A lot!!So im not taking it in until i see him with a cigar and a bottle of old wiskey sitting near his fire place.....until that day comes i'll never believe the hype of MAYWEATHER!!
It's good that he retired and now it will be good it if he comes back.
I see he had the WBC and Ring belts in a stranglehold. Everyone else was doing their part but everyone was pointing to him as the man to beat even though he had no interest. He was simply holding back the sport.
If he comes back, his options are reduced. He does not hold the titles to force others to come to him and he cannot play the role as the go to man. He will be forced to go after the good fights.
I don't think he will be back any time soon though, if at all.
Love him or hate him , he is simply a great fighter , and that can only be good for boxing.
