< Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Just came across this article...
Fight Beat | News
What kind of bullshit is that... Let Larry sign whatever the hell he pleases.
I also think that the IHOF board should look inot cutting the fighters some cash from the "funding" (cash) that they make from the autographs they do.
It sucks that they sign their name allover and the IHOF doesn't cut them some cash. Absolute bullshit.
This isn't the 1st time I've read about fighters not liking their IHOF experiences over in Canastota. I was also told that Tony "The Tiger" Lopez was invited to attend but he had to pay for his won trip.
Maybe the IHOF "board" needs to revalute their staff, it sucks cause as less known as the WBHF is I think they do a damn good job at their events. I've yet to read and or hear any complaints from the boxers who have attended. Not alot of people know this but the WBHF has been around longer then the IBHF (Canastota) IF and when the WBHF catches some air and gets recognized I expect it to be the top Hall.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
on no,
were going end up having IHOF and WBHF recognizing hall of famers, then we will have unified hall of famers.
Maybe the WBA will start a hall of fame where you can either be a "super" inductee or a "regular" inductee.;)

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
This sounds like Institutionalized politics 101.Sounds as though the Directors of The IBHF have lost sight of the meaning of 'Honoree's' and seem more interested in marketing off the fighters name's in mass.Holmes has never held his tounge but they could not come to a meeting of the minds?Any history between Holmes & Brophy?
Next thing you know they will want the Fighters to sign a terms & conditions contract & put a deposit down on the Ring.....wtf?

I have heard a few bad experiences myself. A real shame that the IBHOF acts as if these guys owe them not the other way around.
I also think that the HOF should do a bit more lobbying for some sort of pension plan etc.
Seems it has become nothing more then a cash cow for those who run it.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Typical BS,I really love the sport, but Im coming to loathe the buisness end. How these aholes can make their living off the sweat and blood of others is beyond me.
Larry earned his spot, all on his own,and if you dont think he has, just because he wont make you a few bucks................

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
I met Jeff chandler, Mike Weaver, Julian Jackson, Tony Lopez and Chuck Bodak at a signing in LA, a yr or two ago, and must say that they were all class acts. Chandler seemed very proud to sign my photo. Bodak was the same way. J.Jackson & T. Lopez were very personable, both were very nice guys and jokesters. I caught Lopez outside in the lobby and joked with him a bit, and if it wasn't for my children being with me...i would have bought the guy a drink out of pure gratitude for being just a Great guy. I hate to think that TBHOF is taking advantage of class acts like these.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
My son and I went to the induction weekend this year for like the 13th time. It's all about the money now. No more fights at the casino, instead you pay a small fortune to get hearded into the Rusty Rail to listen to some fighters talk and watch some films. Saturday, you get to pay about $130 to go to a banquet and maybe get some autographs. No more Breakfast of Champions which was one of the best things the IBHOF did. I wrote a letter to The Ring after last year's induction stating how the whole thing was becoming less fan friendly. The memoribilia show is still good as are the ringside lectures. It seems that more and more fighters are avoiding the IBHOF induction. In the past there were many fighters on the grounds. Now you're lucky if you see anyone, much less get an autograph. Maybe it's time to get a new director.

I know what it is. Apparently Larry decided to sell his autograph outside, instead of where he was supposed to be signing so he didn't have to share the profits and he got kicked out for it by the executive director of TBHOF...Ed Brophy. Hmmm?? Holmes got kicked out because he wouldn't share the wealth with an organization that's supposed to be NON profit. Go figure!

It is non profit, all proceeds go to keep the hall running. Larry was making a profit.

And the Hall was making a profit off Larry.

I am sure Larry was not all "What did I do?" in the matter. I read Larry is very "I do what I want when I want the hell with everyone else"
I also read he changes his mind constantly.
Ever read his book? he is very self serving and complains non stop about everything and why the sport does not consider him the greatest ever. He is jealous of Ali as if Muhammad stole his wife. Very odd fellow

No the money goes to the hall to help keep it running. It is only a profit if someone personally gains. Without these things the hall closes down.
Also there is an agreement before the fighters attend they know they have to help with the weekend.
I think you are confused with what Non Profit means

No, i understand what non profit means...but saying...non profit, and actually being...non profit, are two different things. Oh well.

I understand what you are saying now. I think they are non profit I just think Larry is a guy who does not want to do nothing for nothing so to speak.
He wants the ring though.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Well for starters Larry was never KICKED OFF the premises...
Apparently during the memorabilia show, Larry had a table where family was selling Larry memorabilia. Larry went to his table and wanted to help the sales so he started to sign autographs there on the side. I was told that his stuff was waaay over priced. He had DVDs, Gloves etc. etc. but that the price on things was ridiculous.
Apparently the IBHF noticed this and called Larrys attention. But that was it. The writers over at fightbeat GOT carried away and wrote up the whole thing about him getting kicked out.
Larry did his acceptance speech which was funny so I was told and he got emotional.
So there you have it...
Still like I said in my 1st post, I've read and have been told about some of the things that have gone on. Hopefully things change for the better out there.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Its never black and white (no pun intended) with Holmes. He seems to have that Jake Lamotta-like "I'm going to do what I want, when I want, everyone else be damned" kind of attitude.
Great fighter though... #2 HW of all time IMO

I'll buy that.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Well the plot thickens now...
I was just told that Larry was infact told to leave the premises...
The updated story I posted is somewhat accurate.
Apparently Cliff (who used to be Larrys cornerman) had some tables set up and was selling some Larry stuff to which Larry wanted a cut from.
Then sometime there Larry was selling his book and with the book he'd sign it and for $25 more dlls. you could get another item.
So it's a bit shady because according to IBHF rules boxers are NOT allowed to sell autographs on Hall of Fame turf. So he was selling his book but at the same time he was signing stuff. So he was selling the autograph in some ways...
He then was told to leave the premises but he returned to the ceremony.
So which version do you like the most? :D
PS. Keep posted I'm sure I'll be back with something else. ;D
-
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
Is there a version where Larry dropkicks someone? Thats the one I wanna hear. ;D
-
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
I wanna hear what Larry and the IBHOF bigwigs have to say about this incident. Sooner or later both sides are bound to come out with differing perspectives.
-
Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
For what it's worth, I have hundreds of IBHOF induction autographs and have not paid for a single one.

Re: < Larry Holmes was kicked out of the IBHF>
As Mick Mentioned Holmes had some pretty good lines and went all Tony Robbins....:teacher:....
"When I said Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jock strap, thats because he wouldn't want to.I Didn't say that to tear him down,I said it because I felt good about myself. No man is better than any other man,Muhammad Ali thinks he's The greatest...Thats his opinion.."quoted from Article at fightnews.
He reportedly told the young people to not think that the world owes them anything but that they owe the world something..... Class Larry

When told in that perspective it is classy but the way he originally said it was tasteless.
