Boxing: Pacquiao wants Hatton fight - Setanta Sports
Manny Pacquiao has declared that he wants to meet Ricky Hatton after his fight with David Diaz this month.
Hatton had eyed a rematch with Floyd Mayweather in 2009 after his proposed November bout with Paul Malignaggi, but the retirement of the Pretty Boy would seem to have ended this possibility.
There has been speculation that Hatton is in talks with Oscar De La Hoya to fight the Golden Boy in September, when Mayweather was set to fight him, though the American suggested last month that the Mancunian was too small to make this a real possibility.
A bout with Pacquiao, whose popularity rivals Hatton, would appear to be attractive to the Ring Magazine light welterweight champion, whose father has suggested they are looking for only big pay-days in the autumn of his career.
"After Diaz, I want to fight Ricky Hatton," Pacquiao told Ring Magazine. "That will be a good fight.
"I'm 150lbs right now. My sparring partners are always 140 to 150lbs. It's not a problem for me. And I'm not getting any younger. So why not?"
Assuming he beats WBC lightweight champion Diaz on June 28, and Hatton wins Malignaggi's IBF title, Pacquiao would have the chance to become a five-time world champion having previously won titles at flyweight, super bantamweight and super featherweight.

I would really like to see how PAC handles 135 before I make any assessment about this fight. If this fight does happen it's gonna need to happen soon though.

Re: pacman wants hatton next
Pac's "drive for five" mission is a good thing. But he needs concentrate on Diaz first.
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
I hope Pac man is'nt underestimating Diaz, with all his talk about he wants to fight Hatton,i would like to see him get Diaz out of the way first then concentrate on Hatton.
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
yea...Pacquiao needs to give Juan Manuel Marquez his rematch before he goes anywhere close to 140, last fight IMO was too damn close to me and i had Marquez winning with a slight lead
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
Nah forget Marquez . Pacs got enough washed up names on his record as it is . Atleast Ricky is only slightly past it . I hope it happens.

I know you despise Hatton and you love pissing off his fanboys, so I'm sure you're not serious. ODH is 2 divisions above Hatton and is way too big for him.
You just want to see Hatton get KO'd again ;D

How many divisions above his best weight is Pac fighting again?
And yes I do want to see Hatton get smashed again.

Yeah, but the difference between Hatton and Pac in terms of boxing skills is huge. A great deal of Hatton's success is his ability to bully and rough house his opponents, that advantage disappears rapidly when he move up in weight.
For the record, I don't think Pac should even be thinking about fighting Hatton until he tests the waters at 135, let alone 140.

I think that's what most people wants to see first before they start giving him a chance against Hatton, and I'm with them on that. If Pac fails to KO Diaz, then he can forget about Hatton.
Pac did indeed called out Hatton. Evidently he's under estimating Diaz.

If he was fighting a Campbell, Guzman, or maybe even Casamayor they'd make him pay for that, but I still think he'll handle Diaz. I see Pac winning a fairly wide UD.

My major take on this thing is,..
If you'd take a look at David Diaz early career record, I can safely say that he is a NATURAL jr welter. If Pac KO's Diaz, then I would difinitely give Pac the puncher's chance against Hatton.
I can't wait to find it out on June 28. :)

Morales knocked Diaz. Morales couldn't KO PAcquaio. Pacquaio demolished Morales in their last fight.I wonder how PAcquaio will fare with Diaz:confused:
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
The shot that Morales caught Diaz with was a short straight right in the middle of one of Diaz' flurries. It was more of "I got hit?" (down he goes) than Diaz really being hurt.
Diaz has always been known as a slow starter so Pac needs to jump on him right away and not let the fight hit the later rounds.
Him wanting to fight Hatton is blowing my mind! Maybe after seeing Hatton's last fight, Pacquiao thinks he can knock him out seeing how Ricky gets hit with a lot of left hands.
Like I always say, I'm already skeptical about him fighting at 135 but that weight is looking like it will be STACKED soon enough. It already has Casamayor, Diaz (David, Juan, and Julio), Campbell, Katsidis, and Santa Cruz, with Marquez, Guzman, and Valero all willing to follow Pacquiao to 135 as well. THOSE ARE A LOT OF NAMES!!! Pacquiao needs to leave Hatton alone, and conquer 135. If he's looking for a payday, then Hatton is the man, but the risk at fighting someone who is proven to be at his best weight let alone having it be Pacs first fight at 140 would be catastrophic!

GO DIAZ GO can you please beat this man. For the love of Mexico.

Yep, the Hatton fight is a very high risk with an equally very high reward (both money and legacy) for PAC... PAC already called out Hatton... The only thing he need is to stop David Diaz or win it impressively and the Hatton fight will be around the corner...

You're right! If Pac can't knockout a very hittable Diaz, he would be in for a long night against Hatton. If Pac knocks out Diaz, he would have some power against Hatton, some being generous. If Pac can't, fighting Hatton would mean Pac having to box, which isn't his style. Trading with someone like Hatton will be the first time I would advise Pac not to do so.

Good mention! If Hatton loses to Malignaggi, which is VERY possible, and Pacquiao gets past Diaz, I either see Pac fighting Marquez for the third time at 135 or one of the big dog lightweights (Juan Diaz/Casa/Campbell)

if pac wins against diaz, before he even considers hatton, i'd like him to face winners of jmm-casa and campbell-against whoever first. if he gets by all those fights then by all means a hatton fight would be the most logical to go.

Re: pacman wants hatton next
Hatton will fight Pacquiao.
The money available would be huge.
I'm just hoping it's in England....or better yet Croke Park!

If hatton loses to paulie or even fails to knock him out i will personally never post on this site again out of sheer humiliation for my favourite boxer.
Everyone used to say floyd was stupid for moving to 140 and then 147 as it could tarnish his legacy.
No doubt people will say the same about manny.
But great fighters learn to adapt in different situations - which is why even as a massive hatton fan unless he does something at 147 he`ll never be an all time great in my eyes!!
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
You have to give Pac credit for not being afraid to step out of his comfort zone. I do have the same apprehensions as stated by others though in his focus. He is looking too far ahead in my opinion also, and needs to worry about his next match.
-
Re: pacman wants hatton next
I don't think there's any major risk for Pac if he faces Hatton. He'll be in a no lose situation (big underdog) with the prize being the HUGE final payday he makes. I would guess it'll be planned as his retirement fight.
Excluding the gimme he has in the Philippines that is.

If Fatton gets beat by Paulie, PAC-Hatton will become a lesser fight legacy-wise for PAC... PAC will be aiming for a belt in 5 weight divisions... (assuming PAC gets Diaz' belt first as his 4th ;) ).

Nearly knocked out afew times aswel . He is really awful but this fight is set up so Pac looks good and they can say he moved up in weight and beat the WBC champ in style . Overlooking the fact that Diaz is the worst guy ever to hold a WBC strap and he never won it in the 1st place
A quick win over Diaz will give Pac that false hope he needs to go for a Hatton fight . Since Hatton got badly knocked out by Floyd then looked vunerable against a washed up Lazcano , Pac has shown an increasing interest but even though Rickys in decline he is still far too good for the Filipino .

I don't think he's too good, skill-wise Pac is better than Hatton. Hatton is probably too big though, and that kind of size advantage plays right into his game.

Re: pacman wants hatton next
PAC-Hatton fight might be held in England...
"Should he beat Diaz, Pacquiao has been linked to another move up to face highly regarded Englishman Ricky Hatton at 140 pounds. Pacquiao stopped short of confirming those plans but showed willingness to compete before a large crowd anticipated in Hatton's homeland.
“If that fight will be,” Pacquiao said, “it will be in England.”
