Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
IBO 140lb champion Ricky Hatton will not step in for retired Floyd Mayweather in a big money bout against his promoter Oscar de la Hoya in September. Hatton's father and business manager told BBC Sport that "The Hitman" is focused on a November fight with IBF jr welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. Other names bandied about in the media as Oscar's new opponent include Winky Wright and the winner between Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito. An announcement is expected this week from Golden Boy regarding Oscar's plans. Team Hatton, meanwhile, is relishing the possibility of a clash with Manny Pacquiao, should he win the WBC 135lb crown against David Diaz.

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Hatton wants Pacquiao, and Pacquiao wants Hatton.
This was just some sort of myth a couple of months ago. Jeez. I can't believe this is turning into a reality.
-
Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Hatton and ODH both ooking for a massive cashout fight. Oscar wants Ricky because he's smaller and Oscar can put on a show and not get KOd, but Ricky is thinking the same thing about Manny. :)

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
The cash cow gets denied by two different fighters in only a 3 day span. Classic.

MORA! MORA! MORA!
;D

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
If Cotto gets past Margarito, that would be a good way to go out for ODLH.
On his shield ;D

PAC huggers were trumpeting the PAC-Hatton fight loooong time ago ... (after PAC defeated JMM in their rematch)...

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Maybe Papa Hatton knows best.... stay away from bigger Oscar de la Hoya.
Weird.... you'd think Hatton would jump at the chance.
Ahh no way!
I think team Hatton is using Pac as leverage against Golden boy to get more cash.

It's possible. Depends how much Hatton really fears the ass whooping he would receive by fighting Oscar... One thing's for sure, he wouldn't take that fight expecting to win...

Yeah, he knows he'll eat a jab and a left hook to the jaw and face... so it's only natural not to accept the Oscar deal at first.

I could understand that if Hatton was cash-strapped, but he's had a ton of big paydays. It's not like he lives an extravagant PBF-esque lifestyle either. I'd also wager he could make almost as much vs. Pac at Wembly or another big U.K. stadium as he could fighting Oscar in the States.

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Brillaint!
I'm delighted Ricky isn';t taking an Oscar fight.
Although a hardcore Hatton fan, I would have branded him fighting Oscar as selling out.

don't know how much hatton expects to win against dlh but the pacman camp does expect to have a good chance against him.

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
To be honest i am happy to hear this. Hatton would of just added another loss to his record. Good to seee he's focusing on things at light welter. Oscar should just fight mora.
-
Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Hatton is too small for Oscar. He is sensible to decline any bout with Ye Golden Boy of the prestigious temple of promoter masonry.
I heard about this Floyd retirement business on BBC World. No computer for over a week whilst waiting for my new one to be delivered! I survived!
He'll be back!

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
So i take it all you hatton haters are now eating a very nice serving of humble pie.
Ricky could of let this freak show take place and earned himself 3 times whatever he would get from fighting malignaggi or torres.
But hatton has allowed common sense to dictate in this one and has put his legacy ahead of his bank balance!!

Or Hatton figured out that another ko isn't worth all that money...
-
Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Not that surprising really, if he's gonna have one last big money fight (granted nothing's quite as big money as Oscar) it might as well be against somebody he has a chance of beating. Obviously that means Pac.

Hatton-Pac is a mismatch. How is beating Pac going to add to his legacy?

That's not a bad point, is there really that much difference between what Hatton would be doing there and what Oscar was doing? Except I'm sure he'll just say you said it only cause you're a Hatton hater.
Of course you are a Hatton hater, its still a decent point.

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Beating little "stars" didn't hurt Hopkins.

I find it funny that the Hatton groupies hated the thought of a Hatton-Oscar fight. But got no problem with Hatton-Pac. Hatton groupies are so hypocritical it's hilarious.

Well that's true on the ODLH part, but Tito had all ready fought at 160 and had looked good. I don't think 160 was his best weight (154 IMO) but he wasn't tiny for the weight, Hopkins was just a much better fighter anyway IMO. Oscar was less suited to be at 160 IMO.
Pac hasn't even fought at 135 yet so it doesn't compare to Hopkins-Trinidad yet to me.
-
Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
I can't think that Pac could possibly be that good at 140, coming up all the way from 112? Doesn't seem possible, but I wouldn't think a guy could come up from 112 and be that successful all the way to up to 130.
He does weigh in about 144 fight nights, although that's not that big for a really big 140 pounder but then again Barrera would weigh like 130 fight night for a 130 pound fight.

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Ricky has shown me he at least has a brain.
Oscar is almost as bad as Floyd these days! He needs to fight someone good at 154 and then retire!

Obviously Pac-Hatton is mainly about money..err.. like all fights :-\
It was a ridiculous option before Floyd spanked him.. but there's not many "stars" for Hatton to face. I'd bet should the fight happen, and hatton wins, it will be rattled off as his best win alongside Tszyu

You could make the case he's worse. After all who was the naturally smaller guy that moved up from 147 to 154 for their fight? Oscar was returning the favor but still. They're just interested in big money fights, how upset that makes you is up to you.
They both have good resumes really, Floyd probably gets too much flak for his although it would have been nice if he would have fought Cotto, Williams, etc.

The Juan Diaz avenue was closed by Nate

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
Diaz-Hatton would have been a great fight BUT Pac is a much bigger name than Diaz anyway.

Ive openly stated on endless occasions that ricky should not fight pac.
Why ricky would choose to look outside the box is beyond me.
Fight paulie in the garden which hatton has always wanted
then fight torres in vegas sometime march/april
why is that so hard to envisage???

Re: Hatton rejects Oscar fight!
I was surprized to see the call from DeLaHoya turned down. I hope that Hattons loss with Mayweather hasn't turned into a monkey on his back, because what a great fighter! But it was probably a good business decision to back off at this time! Hatton's the one in the ring, so why shouldn't he get payed well? DeLaHoya sure does!
