BREAKING NEWS: NONITO DONAIRE WILL FIGHT ON THE COTTO-MARGARITO TIFF

I just got off the phone with Nonito Donaire Sr., who informed me enthusiastically that his son, Nonito, Jr., the IBF/IBO World Flyweight champion has finally landed a fight.

Nonito Jr will be fighting on the undercard of the Cotto - Margarito Fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on July 26, 2008. His opponent is still undetermined as of this writing and an announcement will shortly be made as soon as he is known.

The fight is meant as a tune up for Donaire Jr after having been inactive since he TKO’d Luis Maldonado in Connecticut last December 2007. This fight will be the first fight for Nonito Donaire Jr., away from his former promoter Gary Shaw who released him from their contract recently.

After this fight, Nonito Jr has been tabbed by Lou DiBella to fight Christian Mijares for the WBC-WBA flyweight title. The fight date and location will be announced shortly after all the contracts are signed.

Donaire Sr., also informed this writer, that his other son, Glenn will definitely fight Ulisis Solis for his IBF light flyweight belt at Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico on July 12, 2008.

In the mean time his new protégé, a Mongolian fighter named Bachuu Otgonthuluum won his first US fight last Friday at Reno, Nevada. He beat a Latino named Omar Valencia. Valencia was downed in the 2nd, and then was TKO’d on the 3rd round. The fight was at 124 lbs weight limit.

Donaire is a sharpshooter with a huge future....I almost forgot about the Cotto / Margarito Fight... with all of the DelaHypa Vs.Cotto Talk going around....yawn :-X

Personaly I would prefere Mijares VS. Montiel but am Glad to see Donaire is getting a big spotlight...solid action ;D

I was just putting on a list of fighters who are available just incase they were looking in here. ;D

VD likes a Filipino fighter? Wow. I'm glad though because Nonito is a very good little fighter. Not sure he's on the level of Mijares or Montiel, I would say just a cut below but I do want to see him face the Japanese fighters like Kameda (who supposedly is pretty good but I haven't seen yet aside from a short youtube clip) and I wouldn't mind seeing him KTFO Vic Darchinyan again. I'm all for Vic getting KTFO as much as possible.

I'm with you. I want Montiel/ Mijares before a Donaire fight.

Donaire should face Kaovichit but I think he'll take an easier touch!

I really wish I had half a clue what was going on in the lighter divisions. Some tremendous fighters but I have simply never heard of half these guys before they become champions and then I'm left to catch up. Donaire I knew about just because he's from the Bay Area. But yes, Mijares-Montiel is among the best fights to be made in boxing but seeing either face Nonito wouldn't be a bad consolation.

Agreed but I'd be disappointed if we got it instead & missed out on Montiel/ Mijares altogether. This fight needs to happen. It will fill the vacant Ring championship at 115!

Haven't you seen what Mijares does to brawlers?
If Montiel want's to beat Mijares one things for certain here with me, brawling and coming forward is not the way. :)

I agree. As I said Montiel is also a very skillful fighter but against Castillo & Maldonado he's come out blazing. I don't think Montiel will go all out against Mijares but he can out work him by keeping his hands moving as Navarro did at times. Plus Montiel hits harder than Navarro IMO or Kawashima who was able to put Mijares down hard!

This really sucks man, soo much talent in Nonito all for it to just sit there on the sidelines and let it go to waste. I think the kid needs to be more aggressive with his career and take more control.

;D. I think that there is SOME level of cell-phone connectivity there, but I'm sure it's intermittent at best. So I could call someone, but no one I know would be able to give me a run down of the fight, they'd just be able to tell me who won or lost. I think I'd rather wait and try to watch the fight without knowing who won. Diane offered to mail a DVD of the fight to me, so maybe it'll be waiting for me at home when I get back.

I'm going to experience a high-level of Saddo-withdrawl though. I'm sure it'll probably be similar to opiate detox.

Gary Shaw just released him. He's a free agent now. Imo, he should approach Bob Arum.

He just bought a house. He's planning to marry her fiance next year. Dude needs money.
