Re: How far will Kahn go?
Kahn, although a bright prospect, has showed some distinct weaknesses despite selective matchmaking.
Although Gomez was predicted to be a neutered force, he did pose plenty of problems for Kahn, not in terms of physicality or athleticism or even skill...but in terms of herat and chin exposure.
Gomez revealed that Khan ha legit problems when dealing with punishment, but is not quite good enough to avoid contact.
I imagine that the hype surrounding him will attract attention from the upper echelons sononer rather than later and I'm not sure thats in his best interest.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
You know my feelings on kahn as we had a war of words earlier but i do agree with some points. I just feel forget about a world shot right now he needs to put his chin down his head out the clouds and his feet on the ground. Maby that is the problem he might be looking past these fighters and not respecting them. I dont know y he got rid of oliver harrison either? anybody shine light on that?

Yeh i agree with you on this one,
Yeah getting rid of Oliver Harrison and replacing Dean Powell is a bit strange. I mean i can see the point if he's going to replace him with a world class coach. But Dean Powell?
Re: How far will Kahn go?
I think he'll end up grabbing a WBO strap which eventually goes vacant.

What level should he be at right now? Surely if he's at the level where he's expected to blow out journeyman inside a round, he's capable of at least challenging for a world title? Especially if you look at the latest line of Brits who have fought for, or are world champions...Alex Arthur, Gary Lockett, Gavin Rees etc...Do any of them 3 even possess 50% of the talent Kahn has?
Has he been brought into the limelight too quickly? It seems he's always been at a stage where he isn't allowed to make the same mistakes other prospects make. Now it almost seems like he's at a stage where he isn't allowed to make mistakes period. If he wasn't expected to make these mistakes surely he'd be fighting guys who are better equipped to take advantage of them? He'd have already fought the likes of Romanov etc...
If Kahn was just your run of the mill prospect appearing on undercards whilst displaying the same talent, would everybody would be raving over him? Should he drift away from the limelight for a while in order for him to iron out his faults?
How long should he wait to fight for a world title, and who should be honing his skills against in the meantime? Will he get exposed at world level? When the time comes, who will be there to expose him? How will they expose him? How comfortably would they deal with his offence?
So many questions, so many different opinions...
What are yours?
I PERSONALLY THINK AMIR KHAN IS A BETTER PROSPECT THAN AMIR KAHN WHO I HAVE NO IDEA WHO HE IS.
AMIR KHAN WILL WIN WBU OR VACANT WBO TITLE .IF WARREN CAN DIG UP HIS USUAL CORPSES FOR THE TITLE.

Powell is the Sports Network matchmaker. You'll notice he works the corner of all the top SN fighters. Pretty sure it was just a temporary thing.
They'll bring in someone like Buddy McGirt, who they alreay have a connection with
Re: How far will Kahn go?
Most of Amir's defensive work is based on being out of range, he was almost running at points on saturday night, he has zero moves on the inside and looks almost desperate and panicky at times when charged.
He can be a force in the division, but needs a big change in approach. While he's a much better prospect than Audley ever was, I see similarities in the way they try to avoid being punched at all cost, rather than block and do work on the inside himself. A new trainer is required IMO, possibly Roger Mayweather and they should break the bank to ensure his services as well as tough (reality checking) sparring stateside.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
I see very careful matchmaking indeed in his future. At least two or three more learning fights, but probably more. He's not ready for a really top operator and may never be.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
Khan really isn't that bad of a prospect, he's managed to win, had some rough spots that he's recovered from well, he's getting experience in the ring stayin busy, he's a prospect but one with promise, too soon to shit on him yet, this is the stage he's supposed to be making mistakes at, what he does and how he learns from them in the future is something no one knows yet.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
Match him with the winner of Diaz V Katsidis, the only way we will find anything about Khan is if he fights somebody good! The time is now, this year and there is no excuse for this not to happen.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
When Pacquiao beats Diaz, Khan hasn't got a hope in hell of winning a title he might be forced to move up and win a belt at Jr Welterweight, and because the Jr Welterweight division is so wide open at the moment i could see him maybe picking up a belt at that weight class, but thats it he won't go no further than that.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
not very far, I'm afraid.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
I have found it hard to judge how far Khan can go... he has blinding speed and is starting to show some respectable power - although I doubt he'll ever be a one punch finisher at top level.
Putting aside the natural bias I have for Khan as a British fighter though I think the Gomez fight showed that Khan gets sloppy at times and although he's not 'chinny' he can be hurt when his concentration lapses or he gets drawn into a fight and gets caught. He has heart - the way he fought back after being hurt by Gomez proved that. Sometimes I think he tries to be too macho and gets drawn into a fight when he should be boxing - partly because of the massive expectation that is on him.
Khan will win a world title - with the amount of belts out there that's almost a certainty and for me that no longer tells me the true worth of a fighter.
How will he cope when he's in there with a real beast of a fighter on the top of his game ? At some point not to far into his career Khan will lose on a stoppage and how he comes back from that may well be the true barometer of how good or great a fighter he can be. He has a lot to learn and there are some hard lessons along the way.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
I don't think he will ever fight a prime champion while he is with Warren (if he does he will be about 35 most likely) so I don't expect great things from him.
I would like to see him get broken up and beaten, then maybe he can rebuild himself to be a better fighter. He also wont have the pressure of staying undefeated to cope with. He has been so hyped up that people expect him to knock people out everytime, and that just means more shitty opponents that (in theory) should not stand a chance.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
Its all about confidence, if Khan can get through this he could be a force in a few years. He needs to go away for a while and maybe fight on under cards against C class fighters and establish a defence. Defend his Commonwealth and then go for the European title next year and then see where hes at.
I have seen most of his fights and yes I have been giving him some bad press but at this stage of his career he hasn't done too badly......hes only 21 and got loads of time to get it right.....DON'T RUSH him.....it will only ruin him in the end....Hopefully his confidence wont be too affected by all this Lime light and expectation crap.
Job Biscuit (But I still want to see him get beat)!!!!
eh eh!!!
Re: How far will Kahn go?
I think Amir is the most skilled out of all the world prospects.
But Khan will only go as far as the first 135lb fighter he faced that is ranked and turns up to win. The guy has no chin and ive heard it from stable mates and former sparring partners and Warren knows it thats why he has yet to fight a 135lb fighter.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
Khan has the talent to go far but i see his chin costing him.
Re: How far will Kahn go?
He will be British,Commonwealth and European champ but im not sure about world champ yet.Im a Kahn fan im just worried about his chin and the Lightweight division is so strong at the minute.Perhaps he wins a WBO vacant title.Perhaps when the likes of Campbell,Diaz's,Casamayor,Manny have left the division Kahn can be number 1 just not while they are their.

I think it's fair to question the quality of the oposition so far but in Gomez I think they picked a good oponent to test Khan. Gomez asked some interesting questions of Khan and it should have proved a good learning experience for him. Lets hope Khan learns from the lessons he wa taught by Gomez if he does not then a KO loss will surely follow before too long.
