Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
BBC SPORT | Boxing | Jones jnr reveals Calzaghe clash
Interview with Jones Junior sheds some light on his fight with Joe and why the split with Warren, they've been negotiating directly.
Apparently Froch and Taylor will duke it out for the vacant WBC, never even envisioned this match up before, could be pretty entertaining and will def show us (finally)
where Froch is at. I pick Taylor be decision or late stoppage, despite his technical deficiencies I think Froch is quite strong and tough, but his power is overrated and he seems to stupidly rely on it alone.
Anyway, over to you Tam.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Finally Taylor will end the hype and shut big mouth Froch up.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Blimey! Froch could actually be fighting someone quality.
I hope (well couldn't care less really) Roy and Joe know what they're doing ditching all the promoters. ;D
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Can't wait for Froch Taylor, the Cobra will prove he's for real by leaving Taylor in an unconcious sprawl around the 10th round, what a great fight!
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Im Calzaghe mad and hate Froch his bums and that mouth but if im being honest Taylor vs Froch is a fight id rather watch that Calzaghe v Jones.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Taylor will put on a clinic against that SuperMiddleWeight version of Vic Darchinyan, Carl Froch.. I have seen a few of his fights and I aint really that impressed at all.. Carl is as one dimensional as they come and Taylor has a solid Chin, Taylor will just whip this guys ass plain and simple.. Like Bomp mentioned never ever imagined this fight coming off, kudos to Taylor for stepping up against a hype machine for his 1st SM fight

With Taylors technical ability and athleticism how do you figure he will get sparked by a chin leading neanderthal who makes Lacy's defense look like Winky Wright.. Taylor will knock this guy out
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Taylor is gonna dominate Froch if it happens.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Would love it if this fight happens, and as a froch fan would love it if he finally stepped up there and beat taylor, whether or not it happens we shall have to wait and see, to be honest I think it'd have to be a career changing performance from froch.

I agree completely. Froch is not good enough to beat Taylor. Taylor in all likelyhood will jab and point his way to a convincing decision. Taylor deserves a lot of credit for coming back as well as he did from the Pavlik knockout. He's got heart and proved he can box well when its really needed.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Carl Froch has an excellent chance of beating Jermain Taylor. Carl will be the naturally bigger man and can punch. Froch has very good boxing ability and has fast hands. He can be abit lazy but so can Taylor.
This is in no way a formality for Taylor.

I'm in this camp, Froch simply hasn't faced anyone near Taylor'sa level, hasn't even fought a top 15 (20 even)SM, while Taylor's shared a ring with too sure fire HoFers and another who could potentially make it. He also showed a lot improvment in the rematch, could make an argument he won it if you watch it without the Youndstown commentary.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I think Taylor will get Froch to lead and win the fight with his jabs and back foot combos.
He cant get slack though as Froch easily has the biggest one punch power at 168lbs.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I don't care that Froch is a bit of a tit. I'd still love it if a no-defense hands-down fighter managed to spark out Taylor, Kessler etc. and be another British star. But let's face it, it's highly unlikely, isn't it? Couple that with the fact that Froch will inevitably be a tit in the runup to the fight, talking about how he's going to destroy Taylor etc. and it's going to make for a great night when Taylor hands his arse to him in the ring. As good as Fraudly getting KO'd by Sprott. :)

Sounds like a sig bet :)
Froch will drop his hands and lure Taylor in. Taylor starts to come forward and opens up sensing blood and BAM! an uppercut from the Cobra sends him sprawling to the canvas and his trainer reaching into his kit bag for the smelling salts.

Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Froch v Taylor is a great fight.
Now we will see what the cobra is really made of.
CANT WAIT FOR THAT ONE!
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
excellent news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really am so happy with this fight because you people are going to see carl frochs true potential as a fighter. hes against a fighter who can really push him and will really work a fight out of froch. Taylors chin at times can be suspect and I think froch can hit harder than pavlik. This fight really does have fight of the year written on it. Taylor is strong, I gave him that but froch is going to win this fight and you will all see that.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Ouch, I see this as a bigtime bounce back for Taylor. Where does it take place? I think Taylor's chin is fine, I think he is going to box the hell out of Froch and then stop him. Froch has to learn that your hands don't belong at your hips.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
if i remember correctly, taylors hands arent exactly high either. That would be a factor for froch as well as taylor. If Taylor gets catched with a heavy right he simply cant stand there and box all night. He will be invited into a fight which favours froch. Somebody like Taylor can get stuck into the action like he did in the first pavlik fight. He doesnt like pressure that fighters apply, Froch isnt going to just be standing there hes going to always be moving forward against Taylor. I believe that this is going to be a very hard fight for froch but he has the tools to win it. It will be awesome and I really cant wait for this !
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I think the Froch that has appeared thus so far has been at around 75% of his true potential. The Tatevosyan fight gave a good sneak look at how he can fight when he is required to produce the goods. The Reid fight was following that cruciate op which he recovered from exceptionally quick.
I think that if Taylor has struggled with smaller guys in the past, not to mention has been KO'd by a puncher, he will be cautious against a bigger opponent that Pavlik who can arguably punch at least as hard as Kelly. Froch may not be quite as tall as Pavlik but his rakish reach will be very comparable and he owns a good jab himself when he chooses to utilise it. Also the ability to take a shot has been proven several times by Froch who has been caught bang on the chin a plenty.
As mentioned it is a far more mouthwatering match-up than Roy Jones and arguably more than Hopkins as Taylor defeated him twice. In this one victory Froch may achieve a better resume than the Welsh Dragon in one single fight. And if he defeats Taylor more remarkably than Pavlik did he will truly have the keys to the treasure chest. It is certainly worth a $50 punt.

Same here . Seems like weve been waiting years and years for a fight like this . I thought it was never gonna happen for Froch but now win or lose we will see what he is made of .
It'll be interestig to see a poll for this fight . See who people think will win . The bookies I think will go with Jermain but I find myself leaning towards Froch .

To be honest i never seen Froch fight is he boring, does he not have a good punch cus it seems that a lot of people dont like him but i like taylor so illl be cheering him on anyway
and i think jones is a promoter or atleast tyring to be so this should be a good experience

Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I'm probably one of the few actually looking forward to Calzaghe/Jones, but Taylor/Froch is a huge fight.
Actually a bit of a risk for Jermaine - Froch may not have been in with the same level of opposition, but he's got a punch on him. I still think Taylor will win, especially if he gets his jab working. If he gets crazy and trades, though...

Even if Froch were to drop Taylor three times within the opening minute and finish with a devasting KO of the year, that claim would still be a hell of a stretch.

Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
Wouldnt Froch vs Taylor be a superb joint top of the bill bout?
I think Calzaghe vs Jones alone wont draw good numbers this fight added would make it a must for any boxing fan.

NEWS FLASH
Calzaghe vacates WBC belt!
The WBC has ordered Carl Froch and Jermain Taylor to fight for the the vacant WBC super middleweight title formerly held by Joe Calzaghe. The clock has started on a private negotiating period is between Froch’s promoter Mick Hennessy and Taylor’s promoter Lou DiBella. If there is no agreement then a purse bid is scheduled for July 25 at the WBC Executive Offices in Mexico City. “I’m delighted to get the title fight and just hope Taylor shows a real fighting heart and goes through with this fight,” said Froch. “I’ve heard he was talking about fighting Jeff Lacy next but that fight is a mismatch in my opinion. I would knock Lacy out in a round or two and it is an easy fight for Taylor, so I just hope Jermain doesn’t squirm out of this situation with me and I think the broadcasters shouldn’t allow him to either. I heard Lou DiBella has said ‘who the f--- is Carl Froch to American television,' but he will know who the f--- the ‘Cobra’ is when his fighter is laying horizontal in front of him. Then I will ask him what does he know about boxing?
From fightnews.com
Hes up for this Carl. He really is going to step up for this one and you will see him at his best. My boy is going to knock him out.

Lou di Bella sounds dismissive of Froch but he's always been arrogant ( old fat men shouldnt have their ears pierced )
Froch just has to tighten up his defence abit for this fight cuz Taylor is good when he lets his hands go. Taylor doesnt seem as quick at SM and im sure Carl has a great chance. Infact Id make him a slight favourite .

Some good points Rob . i agree with you , both can be lazy ,
its a pick em fight , i dont think Froch has fought anybody , but i consider Taylor over rated also.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I agree too that it is a pick em fight. But I just feel froch really has a great chance here. I really think that hes going to stop Taylor i just know that he can do this. Taylor is an excellent fighter, but against Ouma and spinks he at times looked like the power at 168 might be a too much for him. Froch's accuracy will also factor in this. Its a real tough fight but i just think froch can do this ! ;D

How can Froch tighten up his defense a bit ?? his whole style is based on having his hands at his waist and just using his reflexes, but the sad thing for him he ain't no Roy Jones Jr and that low hands style will get him in big trouble against Taylor.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
I think Froch defense has been abit lacks in the past as he hasn't feared the opposition in the past but will know that Taylor is genuine World Class and realise he needs to tighten up the defense.
If this fight happens its a great match-up and I certainly can't see Froch getting Ko'd as Taylor is not a big hitter and Froch seems to possess an excellent chin.
May major concern is whether he will be busy enough if he is he can dominate the fight.

Even if he doesnt improve on his defence, Taylor looked awful vs smaller men like Ouma and Spinks. Froch I think will cause him alot of pain .

Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
People are talking about Froch improving his defence?? That's a laugh. Taylor is way to good to lose to this guy imo, it would be a huge upset if it happened. I mean sure you have to give Froch a punchers chance and perhaps Taylor's head isn't really in this fight? But I don't see any reason that would be the case after his showing in the Pavlik rematch. Taylor does everything better than Froch, who has an awful fighting style to succeed at the world class level. How is leaving your hands at your hips winging telegraphed uppercuts going to work against a top fighter? I just can't see it. "The Cobra" is no Bernard Hopkins, WRight or Kelly Pavlik, Taylor does everything better than Froch anyways, and given Froch's style I suspect he'll be getting KO'ed. He'll need one hell of a chin just to survive and make it competitive.
-
Re: Jones Joe andFroch V Taylor!!
you'll see he will be up there. He will make this one hell of a fight for Taylor. Its alrite you all saying his defence will be exposed, but when has it ever been a problem? ive never seen him being truely hurt before or nearly touching the mat. Its his presence and his range that is a great form of defence for Froch. His footwork is underrated too, he knows when hes in touble he can get out of there quick. The range will be a lot harder for Taylor than he expects. If he gets problems off two small lightmiddleweights, I am expecting many problems from a natural 168 fighter who is greatly up for the fight!

The reason he hasn't been in much trouble so far because he has fought absolutely no one remotely world level.
I can't belive people are picking on the Light Middle weight fighters as evidence he'd struggle against a bigger guy like Froch, wtf, stylistically the fights will be completely different. It's like saying that Taylor struggles with southpaws with a tight guard, so logically he'll struggle more with an orthodox fighter with his hands protecting his groin:confused::confused::confused:
Anyway, not knocking Froch, if this fight comes off we will finally know exactly where he's at. IMO Froch's only chance is a knockout, he simply won't outbox Taylor.

Based on what Brian Magee or Robin (79yo) Reid.
Not knocking your comments but who the hell has Froch fought that suggests he beats Taylor? hid fault or not but his resume is dreadful if Carl fought Spinks or Ouma that would be a step up.
Let alone Hopkins and Pavlik, Froch has yet to face anyone B class Bika is a level above the cans he fought.
Not saying Froch will lose but he is stepping D class to A class without having a B class test (someone ranked coming to win).
