Who wins and why?
I am reall ynot sure , i always thought Mosley was unbeatable at LW , but for what Mayweather has gone on and achived im not so sure.

Mosley would of lost he has always struggled against good jabbers and back at Lightweight Mayweather had a terrific jab, plus i think Mayweather is the better boxer so im going with Mayweather by close UD.
Tough fight to call id go with Mosley as he was faster and hit 3x as hard.
Mosley close UD maybe SD.

People forget that Shane was a MONSTER at 135. I think he'd take a close UD.
Mosley by an easy win.Not to mention he was 32-0 with 31 KO's. Mayweather would have ran and ran Mosley would have chased and chased an easily outgunned him and knocked him out. Remember Shane is the natural lightweight Floyd won a bronze in the featherweight division. So Shane would have an edge in size,also he is just as fast,and throws a helluva alot more punches.
This hypothetical matchup is one of the few where I could see Floyd's defense getting overwhelmed. Shane was too fast and too strong at 135 for Floyd.
What's bad is I'd still like to see them fight, at 147 or 154. I think Mayweather wins here, but it would be an interesting matchup.
Mayweather used a lot more footwork down at 135, and I think he deals with fast opponents better than Mosley does. I still feel Mosley being a little robotic, never having a solid jab, and over reliance on handspeed would make this a close but UD for Mayweather.
Mosley
He was untouchable at lightweight but Floyd got beat by Castillo IMO whos just a limited Mexican . It would be a good fight but Mosley has better speed and power.
You can't state somebody was untouchable at a weight, nor can you compare how Mayweather against somebody like Castillo with somebody like Mosley, they are totally different opponents. Also Mayweather didn't get beat by Castillo, and he tore his left rotator cuff going into the fight so thats still a bad example. Mosley has better combination speed, but for pot shot type speed MAyweather is easily as fast as Mosley, and clearly has quicker feet.Quote:

Mayweather - far more convincingly than he ever would at 147
Mosley has always been the kind of fighter who likes to plant his feet and stand and trade with his opponent.
At 135 PBF would just dance a merry jig round him all night long.
At 147 i honestly believe SSM has it in him to give floyd big problems.

No one who has truly watched that fight would think that Mayweather lost the fight with Oscar. He was also moving up to Oscar's weight for that fight too just like Shane did.
Anyway I saw Shane against a guy named Phillip Holiday or something like that.
And I think Mayweather had a chance against a Mosley at 135
I've only seen a very small percantage of people who thought ODLH won and thats probably because they didn't observe the fight properly because if you watch the fight closely Mayweather is the clear winner, Mosley vs ODLH 1 was more of a brawl and it was much more exciting so yes of course it was a better performance from Mosley, but remember Mayweather was moving up to a weight class he had never fought at before. Plus ODLH had 1 stone advantage over Mayweather so it was pretty impressive win for Mayweather taking all that into consideration, and like i said GAME its no secret that the 2nd ODLH vs Mosley fight was a gift for Mosley.Quote:

mosley hits to hard
I don't know. I think Mosley was more physically gifted than Mayweather and also a bigger guy, as he was a huge lightweight who'd weigh 150 in some of those fights on fight night.
Mosley had amazing speed and could crack, but was fighting relatively weak opposition at 135. On the other hand, Castillo gave Mayweather all he could handle in the first bout, but Mosley and Castillo don't really fight alike.
I think Mayweather's boxing skills, defense, and intelligence would give Mosley fits. Mosley's always been overrated in terms of boxing skills, because he's fast. So people think he's some sort of great pure boxer, but he isn't, and never was. He's a speedy slugger who was at his best in the exchanges, and winged a lot of shots. He too often threw a pawing jab and left himself open down the middle. I can see Mayweather catching him down the middle with his accurate straight right hand and superior jab.
I also think it helps for Mayweather's sake if it's a couple fights into 135. Mayweather filled out nicely into the weight classes he fought in pre-147. Mayweather talked about hand and shoulder injuries in the first Castillo fight. Maybe it's true, maybe not, fighters always talk about injuries after the fact that it's hard to know when to take them seriously. But it was a jump in weight for Mayweather against a bigger guy in Castillo. Maybe the Mayweather against Ndou was better since he had 3 previous fights to be more adjusted to being a lightweight.
I was always very upset this fight never happened. Would of been one of the greatest ever.
I believe we never saw the peak Mosley at lightweight.....I'd take him over Mayweather at lightweight on tight inside speed alone...

At 135 Mosley was a BEAST! Floyd would've sat back and pot shot Mosley. Unfortunately, Mosley's speed would prevent Floyd from doing that at will and he would throw more than enough punches to prevent Floyd from countering. Shane would win at 135 with a UD.
The only person I knew that had Oscar winning besides the one judge was my friend who worships the ground Oscar walks on! NO WAY did De La Hoya win the fight. I had him up by the 6th but after that point, Mayweather took over.Quote:

This would have been a tremendous fight. Floyd is the better technical and defensive fighter. BUT...at 135 Shane was truly a monster. Shane was as fast, if not faster, than Floyd at that weight. And the power edge clearly goes to Mosley at that weight. As someone else has mentioned...Floyd would want to sit back, dance, and pot shot his way to a win. But Shane's tremendous speed and power at 135 would make that difficult. Sure, Floyd could use his superior jab and footwork to keep Shane at bay. But eventually....a fighter who possesses Shane's lightning fast speed and combos will get through...even against a great defense like Floyd's. And at 135...when Shane landed...fighters hit the canvas.
Shane is a fighter I have always followed and supported unconditionally.
However, until recently I had only see most of his Lightweight fights once.
Upon rewatching his entire career its easy to lose appreciation of how good he was at lightweight when one sees his sucess at Welter and to a lesser extent Light Midleweight.
At Lightweight Shane was a dynamo, an endless source of energy that fired with power and aggression for as long as was necesary, along with great movement.
In his prime at Lightweight he can beat Mayweather.
At Lightweight Shane deserved the Sugar moniker.

Exactly. He fought Winky at 154...a weight where Shane had no power, not great speed, and was much naturally smaller than Wright. He fought Forrest at 147...where again...he wasn't at his best speed. And i always just thought Vernon had the style, height and length to give Shane fits. The higher in weight Shane went, the less effective he was with his power, combos, and even speed. Again, Floyd is the better technical fighter...but at LIGHTWEIGHT...Shane was a physical force.Quote:

Shane was good at adapting, and he was a monster at lightweight but he wasn't invulnerable, he had flaws as the Holiday fight showed, its more there wasnt really anyone at lightweight to challenge him but thats not his fault.
But I don't think it would be an easy fight either way. The thing is Shane's style never changed, so I have no problem saying that if even Forrest was a lightweight he would have beaten shane the same way.
When a bigger man has good boxing skills, his skills are multiplied by his size advantage. It's a huge deal when a fighter moves up a division and his success, its not easily done!Quote:

Shane had more than a couple of flaws at Lightweight, but his physicality ensured that no Lightweight could touch him.
At Lightweight he had the perfect physical make up.
I still say Mayweather. Floyd was no slouch either at lightweight. He has always had the ability to adjust, as evidenced by the 2nd Castillo fight at lightweight. Shane is the same throughout the fight and while that was more than enough for just about everyone he's faced, someone who could either top that or adjust to it had his number. I just watched Mosely vs. Morales again last night at 135. Mosely got stronger as the bout went on and displayed iron chin and great speed.
I still believe at 135 he pulls out a UD over Mayweather, but gets beaten by Mayweather at 147 and 154.
Hard one to call. I think that this fight would have been closer at lightweight than any other division they have fought in as i believe this is when they had equal speed. I think that Mosley certainly had the power over Floyd but I think Floyd had the boxing skills over Mosley. I think that I would go for Floyd though as I think his defensive genius would eventually frustrate Mosley and his brilliant jab and counter puncjing skills would keep him in a close fight for the first 6-8 rounds before the frustration started to creep in, although I would give Mosley a chance of knocking anyone out at lightweight so there is always the chance that he would have caught Floyd and knocked him out. That said though apart from Hernandez no-one ever put Floyd down and a bigger hard punching De La Hoya caught him with some nice shots that he stood upto. Also when ever Floyd was struggling in the early rounds of fights he always seemed able to figure his opponent out quickly and turn the tide. So my opinion on this one is that this fight would have been similar to the Maywether v Judah fight when Zab started off the faster but the genius of Floyd worked him out, frustrated him and then quite easily beat him, the only difference being that he wouldnt have easily beat Mosley (far from it).
I have refused to use a common opponent in De La Hoya as:
1) The De La Hoya Mosley fought was a prime De La Hoya and the one Mayweather fought was slightly over the hill but still a very game competitor.
2) Neither of them fought him at lightweght. (Now that would have been interesting all 3 in their primes at lightweight).
