He sort of has a point but he was getting in the way and causing the confusion IMO. This does not show everything that led up to this so, don't judge what happend by this video alone. If you did not see the fight, don't say shit. lol
You can explain anything away when you have 1,001 rules on your side.
He was a joke he jumped in the way and stopped it and Lorenzo was not even down so Soto had every right to punch and if Lorenzo was ruled to be down Cortez should have been in there quicker!
Every fighter gets pummelled on the way down what you gonna do disqualify them all?
If so Pavlik should have lost by DQ to Miranda and Taylor they were half way down taking shots.

If you watch him stubble his words out he first says he was DQ`d for a punch behind the head and Lorenzo could not continue when the commentator told him it was a phantom punch Cortez said i Dg`d him for punching a man when he was down that illegal.

What bothers me is that at no point has anyone ask the key question. Yes he was hit after he went down. Every body saw that and most of know that that is a big no no.
The real question that no one has ask is, was that punch intentional. That is what decides if a DQ is deserved or not. Was Soto's punch an intentional foul. And the answer is clearly NO so the DQ is clearly BULLSHIT...

Just like many fighters even the referee's go on to long, Cortez has lost the plot! To come to a decision like he did with Soto is just total incompetence.
Any rematch will be painful and potentially dangerous for Lorenzo, yeah Joe you have protected the fighter alright!
Cortez showed he was on the take when just before his illegal stoppage he jumped in to split the two when Lorenzo was a sitting duck not down or holding.
Then 5secs later jump in.
Oscar for Lorenzo though at the knockdown he is fine just touches the top of his head then when he sees Cortez call it a foul is laying on his back for 10mins.
Between Lorenzo and Hopkins for worst in ring performances, anyway both jupped that moron Cortez.
clearly from that he is insisting it was hitting a downed opponent that ended the fight, while kizer was claiming it was a blow to the back of the head
either way i doubt its corruption, unless ALOT of people layed ALOT money on soto there would be no point
i think its straight incompetence, and i dont think cortez would have to be in on any corruption kizer thought up anyway, hes so senile at this point that kizer can just direct him into participating without even knowing

At one stage I enjoyed hearing that Cortez would be refereeing certain fights I was looking forward to... Now I litereally cringe at it... I hate Cortez. He was a great ref at one time with great timing for protecting fighters and being "fair but firm" and all that shit.
