Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
Newly-crowned WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao is not at all concerned whether his next ring date is with Venezuelan slugger Edwin Valero at 135 pounds or Britain's Ricky Hatton at 140.

this is one of the reasons why i like pac so much. he simply loves to fight.
"Kung ako siguro, Valero or Hatton, kahit sino naman," (If it's up to me whether it's Valero or Hatton, it doesn't matter who) Pacquiao said in a press conference after arriving Friday morning from Los Angeles, California.
"Si Valero, kung ano-ano mga sinasabi. Darating din ang panahon na mag-aabot din kami sa ring, mag-aabot din ang landas namin." (Valero is saying a lot of things. Eventually we'll meet atop the ring, our paths will cross)
He declined to issue statements about Valero. "Ayaw ko lang magsalita ng marami dahil wala pa namang...pero marami siyang sinasabi sa akin."(I don't want to say any more 'coz the fight isn't there yet... but he's saying a lot of things to me.)
i especially love this part:
With regard to the possibility of a clash with Hatton, Pacquiao said," 'Yung Hatton kasi, talagang gusto noon, totoo na fight, bakbakan, suntukan talaga. Magandang fight, talagang napakaganda at saka may lakas din 'yun so kailangan ko at least 3 months na training for Hatton fight" (Regarding Hatton, I really like that fight eversince, it's a real fight, a brawl, a punch out. It's going to be a beautiful fight, really beautiful and he's also strong so I need at least 3 months training.)
and this :o:
"Sabi ko nga, para mas maraming tao, mas maraming fans na sisigaw sa kanya, kung kami maglaban, dadayuhin ko siya sa London," (As I was saying if we're going to fight, so that there will be more audience, more fans who will root for him, I'll go and fight him in London), he said.

Carnt see it been Hatton this year as he is almost certain to fight Pauli. I think it would be a good fight if he fights Valero then if he wins that fight Hatton next year at 140.

Agreed
think both arum and rickys camp have this potentially penned in for the summer of 2009.
Hopefully by then ricky would of seen off paulie and torres and pac would of got himself a win and maybe even a world title at 140pounds in the bag.
Then it would be a case of just sitting back and watching the $ role in.

I have no problem with Pacquiao fighting either guy first, both are risky fights for different reason's.

Good stuff kkisser.
If Pac is prepared to come to London that's a 100,000 job at Wembley. Wonder why they don't want to rush a November date ;)
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
I'd fancy Pacquiao to dismantle Valero early as I believe he would have too much in the boxing skills department also Pacman has fought much the better fighters so that would pay dividends if the fight does materialise. Also if i'm not mistaken i think Valeros only aloud to fight in Texas if the fight was to take place in the states so I think it would more than likely be in the Phillipines.
As for Hatton though I would love to see this happen but I think this would be one step too far for Pacman as he bgan as a 108lb fighter and to fight at 140 against a natural jr welterweight would be an amazing achievement but a fight that i could only see Hatton winning.

Matters to me why he fighting a 130lbr after just leaving the division?
He should only be looking at Casamayor, Campbell or Hatton.
I hate it when fighters move up win a strap then fight fringe contenders.

I understand what your saying but I think that all the top fighters in the division have got fights lined up and Hatton is all but signed up to fight Paulie so he is basically unavailable for now.

I still say stay within the 135lb division Julio Diaz would be a good stop gap fight should Hatton not happen.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
I don't think Valero has a hope in hell against any of the LW champs, but I guess it's a decent fight considering who else is available. Julio Diaz had been said, but really thats about the only quality LW who doesn't have a fight lined up, and he doesn't really present a good payday or feather in Manny's cap so to speak.

This is a good point I'd forgot about Julio and you have to give him crdit for coming back after his hard defeat to juan diaz. But going off the point a little bit I see that Nate Campbell is set to defend against Joan Guzman who to me isn't even a SFW never mind A LW he hasn't even stopped anyone since he was fighting in the super bantams in 2004 and to me hasn't looked comfortable at SFW. So how can Campbell justify fighting him? For me it should have been a rematch between Campbell and Juan Diaz with the winner then taking on Manny Pacquiao and then we would have something close to a unified division taking away Interim champions and all that nonsense.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
I'm not a pac fan, but Goddamn he is the real deal.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
Either way PAC is fighting DESTRUCTIVE fighters whom if he beats will generate/WARRANT more respect for PAC because it just shows that Manny Pacquiao is a risk taker and is willing to put in the line against fighters who could blow him out easily too.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
If he beat Hatton and Valero i'd have to say he'd be number 1p4p even if Mayweather hadn't reitred.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
Hatton at this stage couldn't handle Pac's workrate and if his power carries up even a little bit he has the chance to really shock Ricky. Ricky's defense never was great but now it's really affecting his ability to look good in fights.
Valero is still more hype than substance at the moment...he's fought some tough guys but done nothing to deserve a fight vs Pac. If he beat Guzman or JMM he'd be the #1 guy I would want to see Pac fight but right now Hatton is a bigger fight IMO.
Re: Pacquiao: Valero or Hatton? Doesn't matter who
a fight with hatton IS the biggest realistic fight available to pacquiao but is premature at this point. he's only had one fight at 135lbs and still needs to prove himself against the top guys at lightweight including against those who followed him north from super featherweight like guzman, marquez and valero.

Campbell has to justify fighting Guzman? Joan is a top 5 p4p fighter, he just beat Soto who is a top contender at 130 and is now campaigning at LW highly ranked. Granted it's a step up in weight but so what? Guzman will win the fight, and there is noone remotely close to as good as he is that CAmpbell could've realistically fought instead soon. Campbell started at feather and 130 as well anyways. It's like saying how could David Diaz justify taking on the smaller guy Pac who hadn't fought at LW. Especially since Campbell isn't even technically the linear champ.
