Anybody into Track & Field?
Could be the greatest 100 metres in history. Usain Bolt has just run a new world record 9.72, Tyson Gay (World Champion @ 100mm & 200mm) ran the fastest time in history 9.68 (wind assisted) at the weekend and Asafa Powell was world record holder until 2 weeks ago @ 9.74
I'm think Tyson Gay will win it!!
Yea im into track and field used to do track and field back in high school. As for those times incredible just incredible but Michael Johnson at 400m was the greatest runner i've ever seen.Quote:

Yes I am. I've been a fan of Gay since he was at LSU that's when I really got into track.
Usain Bolt just looks like a phenom though, has there ever been a runner with such long legs that was so good in the first 50 meters? I mean it's unbelievable the starts he gets. I watched the qualifier where he ran against Powell last weekend and again was just blown away and this is a guy who has less then 10 meets at 100 meters and he's doing this! It's ridiculous, I'm a big Gay guy (Rick Majerus shout out), but it's hard not to like Bolt.
And then of course Asafah Powell. Who would have thought at this time last year that Asafah Powell would be almost an afterthought here? But momentum is definitely not on his side here.
I'm super excited for the 100 meters I can not wait.
On the womens side I think Hooker takes it. Hopefully for America Gay and Hooker take home gold to create the funniest newspaper headlines of all time.

Agreed. Sports, amongst other things, define how far man has come and the evo of man to be greater and greater. Of course 90% of the dumbells who win medals thank God 1st for their victories instead of themselves and the people before them that set the standards that drove those people to be better. You clearly have no idea of how evolution works. If you go and look at scientific papers and thesis describing how humans will look in the future we are heading in the opposite direction because we no longer need to be so physcially active to live our lifestyles.
When we can get our dinner off a super market shelf and our water from a tap 5 meters from our lounge why on earth would our bodies evolve and adapt to become physically more able? :confused:

Furthermore evolution doesn't mean that things improve and get better, it means that organisms adapt and change in response to enviromental factors so that the organism is best suited to its enviroment.
The best and fittest humans lived thousands of years ago. Neanderthal man was more muscular, had bigger brains ( bigger cranial capacity), better coordination and were physcially stronger than us. They needed to be because they lived in a very harsh enviroment.
In todays world each race is suited to their enviroment. Blacks are more muscular, have less bodyfat and more more stamina endurance than whites to cope with the harsher living conditions in Africa. These changes took thousands of years however which is why African Americans are still black after a few generations living in the US and why white generations of people stay white in South Africa for example, these changes take a long time.
In the Western world we are not evolving better physical bodies as we simply do not need them. Why in the world would an organism evolve and adapt in a way in which was completely opposite to the needs of its enviroment?
If there was a holocaust and man once again had to brave harsh enviroments, make long journeys for food, shelter and safety and lived in a physically harsh enviroment then humans would adapt accordingly. Whilst we live in an enviroment of plenty, where there are no predators, no physical demands upon our bodies like in times past then we simply will not evolve better and more physically stronger bodies.;)

can there be 'devolving' ? because it would still be the next step in the evolution line so it would have to be evolving just into a lesser being or something like that.

I havent followed track and field in years. I used to watch a lot sport but there is no coverage in my part of the world. Instead I get mens volleyball and table tennis. :-\
Im glad the Olympics are going to be on at a decent time so I can actually try and watch some of the events live. I didnt watch a single game of the European Chamionships. Time difference was just too much.
I think 'devolving' could probably be when like, a deer's antlers grow big to attract femals,,, but then the females keep rooting all the deers with the biggest antlers, and eventually the antlers grow to big for the deer to reach the ground to eat, and dies, so that would be bad.... mabe then after a long time they would have to go backwards and the women would find smaller antlers sexier... but then, that would be evolving still.... :confused:Quote:

I havn't worked since I was 24, a decade now. I got diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease and had 5 tumours in all. I had a bone marrow transplant and have been in remission ever since but the extensive chemo and radiotherapy treatment left me with badly damaged lungs and a broken body.
I've been on the sick ever since and lead a productive life consisting mostly of posting here on Saddo, reading, playing chess and wanking to internet pornography. It's a tough life but someone has to do it ;)
I'm a sports guys period.
I love competition and I just enjoy whethe 2 teams or just 1 on 1 competing.
Really looking forward to the Olympics.
Also for those who have HBO, they've been showing Bud Greenspans look back at Olympics as he recaps some of the most memorable moments in Olympic history. Love those shows... :)
