So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
I'm not a boxing business junkie but that seems pretty decent to me, especially since Diaz was a relative unknown and the undercard didn't seem like a classic.
So is Pac becoming a real star here, is he all ready one?
I don't even know why I posted this, kind of a horrible thread, bored I guess. Just looking out for the Pac fans :-\

I actually thought the undercard was one of the better ones recently with 3 very intriguing fights. 250,000 is ok I guess, certainly not bad for such small guys, and considering Pac is not even American.
I wonder how many the Cotto Margarito fight will generate?

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
So much for the theory that Pac isn't a PPV fighter.
-
Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
That's horrible numbers IMO, I mean didn't Mayweather make 400K buys against Baldomir and Judah? And that was before he became a star... I always thought Pacquaio was a lot more popular than just 250k buys.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
I agree with Taeth (for the 1st time in a looooong time) 250 is pretty dam low if you ask me. Considering the numbers of previous PPV events. Didn't Pac do as many sells when he fought Solis?
I think Vargas-Mayorga did better then this one... :puke:
Also 250 according to who? Who put that number out?
Don't quote me on this I'm just going by memory here but I think Cotto-SSM did something like 475K, Manny-JMM did 400K, PBF-Hatton 850K, Tito-RJJ 400K.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
This here CLEARLY proves that 1 fighter alone (unless your names ODLH or Mike Tyson) does not sell a fight.
-
Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
I guess it's not too bad for a "little" foreign fighter in a semi-mismatch - considering NO-ONE (well there's always a few) gave Diaz a chance.
Pavlik-Taylor 2 did only 225,000.
(For Taeth ;))
Floyd-Baldomir - 325,000.
Floyd-Judah - 374,000.
What surprises me more is ONLY 8,000 people in attendance at Pac-Diaz. So many big American fights seem to play to small audiences :-\

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
With Pacquiao, I don't mind shelling out the money, since I know that his fights are awesome. But I do mind with de la Hoya, whose fights are usually stinkers. If Floyd were still fighting, I would still put Manny as number one pound for pound because he has been more destructive than Floyd throughout the rise in weight. I don't think Floyd has fought many hard hitting, natural welters, and we all know Floyd skipped through the toughies at 140. Manny has fought all the hardhitters of the wieghts he has fought in.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
I think Arum will be disappointed if Pac Diaz only did 250K
That is not bad, but it is on the low end for a Pac fight.

Yup I think you hit the nail right on the head.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
It's pretty good, especially for a fight where everyone already knew the winner going into it. Diaz vs Morales did about 100k. Winky Wright vs Bernard Hopkins featured two long standing American veterans, and still only did about 300k. Fernando vargas has been a draw for years and did about 150k for his fight with Ricardo Mayorga.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
Man nobody has even heard of David Diaz outside of boxing fans (hard-core ones). Someone asked me about this fight at school. I told them not to buy it, that Diaz was by far the weakest of the belt holders. He seems like a nice guy, he just isn't very skilled.
I am not surprised at the low PPV numbers, if the PPV numbers are really that affected by the economy as Uncle Bob Arum claims.

Also while Vargas/Mayorga was a shit fight to us on here, the general public doesn't ever really realize a fighter is 'past it.' They just see big names.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
I am a Pacman fan and i can say with conviction that Pacquiao is the best boxer of his generation... 4 different boxing titles?! that is way more than something.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
Huh, I don't think there as low as some of you are saying, Floyd was just a bigger name by the time he fought Baldomir cause of Gatti and Baldomir, while not a name had at least beaten Judah while Diaz is a complete unknown. And the undercard, while it turned out well, had really no names on it at all, definitely no names to bring in any people who were on the fence about whether or not they were going to get the card.
I mean it was David Diaz. just to repeat for emphasis, it was David Diaz.
That Pac did more against David Diaz than Pavlik-Taylor 2 did is surprising to me.
I could be wrong but I read somewhere that Pac-Morales I only did like 300, 000.

Mayorga - Vargas did 300K.

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
Guys put it this way... choose
a - 250k PPV buys - (high gas prices of 2008)
b - 250k PPV buys - gas prices of 2004-2005-2006-2007
(lets consider the present economic status)
which is more impressive?
I think a is more impressive than b. Now figure it out guys. But in the pacman standard it's pretty low. It takes two to tango really in this sport. Pacman is not an american and still learning to speak english. Diaz is mexican american but not a well known champion boxer outside of the boxing circle.
i still rate this a very impressive PPV BUYS:cool: despite the low output in pacman's standard.

What does the high gas prices have anything to do with PPV buys?

Re: So, apparently Pac-Diaz did 250 thousand buys
Usually when costs go up in one area of your household budget, spending goes down in other areas of your household budget. Frivolous spending is cut back, that being the entertainment part of the household budget.

That makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

i for one mate didn't watch it on my own PPV cable. i went to a friends house just to watch this fight(pacman-diaz). Im on tight budget right now. Before we even drove from san diego to las vegas just to watch championship boxing live. now we intend only to watch on PPV with our drinking buddies. Gas price hike sucks.. you know.. everything is affected. we already had the cotto-margarito set for weekend party at the same friends house. It's cheaper. Got my point mate, on why im still impress with the 250K buys of the diaz-pacman fight.
peace.
