Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Madison Square Garden on September 20th.
Frank Warren suing Calzaghe. :)
Joe Calzaghe Enterprises is promoting the fight along with Roy Jones's promotional company. Sounds a bit like Trotters Independent Traders.

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Even more interesting is that Jones already plans for his fight after Calzaghe...
..." Jones added that after Calzaghe, he would like to go back up to heavyweight, where he made history by winning a title against John Ruiz in 2003 to become the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in more than a century. His target: Samuel Peter, who owns one of the heavyweight titles. "They call Samuel Peter 'The Nightmare,'" Jones said. "I'll give him a nightmare. I like to do stuff people think I can't do. But I am really looking forward to fighting Joe first. "...:o

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
I like this fight for Roy since he has everything in the world to gain by a win.. I wholeheartedly believe that Roy can turn back the clock here and put on a great performance utilizing his new adapted style. Joe just dosent posess the power to really cause Jones any worry seeing Roy still has the Handspeed advantage and the power anvantage ... I am scoring tickets for this one
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
I truly believe Roy will turn on the style against Joe and make his hand/foot speed and power advantages count. I really can't wait for this. Ive been waiting to see my hero shut Joe up for over a decade now. wooooohooooo

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Jones Jr vs Peter..... Thats a laugh, Jones Jr might have a chance

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Why isn't this fight in Whales... Hopkins-Calzaghe, one of the classic matchups in the last 10 years, didn't even sell out from the looks of it over here in north america. Cardiff is a much better location for this fight, and Joe deserves to have this fight in his back yard... I am worried for my favorite fighter ever... Joe is going to eat him alive.

I think so too. Calzaghe is a perfectionist and is most likely smarting from not being able to dazzle against Hopkins. He is indeed most likely going to make Roy pay instead.

Jones and Calzaghe All Set
Sept 20. Madison Square Garden.
Can't wait to see Joe get outed as the slapper he is.

Re: Jones and Calzaghe All Set
Kind of surprised it didn't land in Vegas

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Not really looking foward to this mismatch, Jones will be so tired after 6rds he will barely be able to stand let alone fight back.
Jones will take a whooping until he gets stopped probably against the ropes getting nailed with combo after combo.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Jones is 5 times the star of Hopkins, has a lot more fans especially in New York. Calzaghe fought in his backyard his whole career, MSG is a good venue for this. That way they each would probably bring half the fans each.
I have this frightening image of Roy voluntarily laying on the ropes letting Calzaghe bitch slap him to victory :-\ At this point I just want to see Calzaghe lose but I'm not sure Roy is going to do it, not confident at all. Will be rooting hard for him though.

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Would love to see RJJ beat the snot out of Calzaghe for his "I'm holier then thou Kelly Pavlik so I won't fight you" B.S. talk ...
But logic and reason says Joe will win this. Either way I think it is a good fight for them both for the $$ aspect, and the right venue.

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Roy Jones will have no legs come the 6th round.
I think this one is gonna get messy Calzaghe UD

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
I don't like this fight - especially with them all lovey-dovey joint promoting it.
It's just two old boys with a plan to make EASY SAFE money.

better late than never i say
If its the jones that fought trinidad a few months back then i really expect nothing more than a comfortable JC points victory.
But if..........IF RJJ can role back the clocks and produce one last vintage performance we could just have us a decent fight on our hands.

Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
The only scenario that would make it semi-shocking is if Roy sparked Calzaghe out.
But that wont happen. They are too freindly (even if they pretend not in the bulid up).
It will be like all old-timer fights. A totally predictable 12 round SAFETY first fest.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
Calzaghe won't get any credit for the win.
to be honest i am a little disappointed in him, he would of got much more credit in beating Pavlik.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
If Roy doesn't wait to get started like he did against Tito, perhaps he can claim most of the first 8 rounds and get a sloppy SD, but I also see him getting worn out against a tireless Joe. I believe it's possible for Roy to win, but I just see Calzaghe doing it again.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
....what happens if Roy legitimately beats Calzaghe....and even KO's Joe.
As unlikely as that may be you still have to consider the possibilities. If Joe KO's RJJ then no big surprise but if the Joe gets KO'd it would be a shocker
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
It's going to be a tough nights work for Joe since he simply doesn't have the power to keep Roy honest. Joe will win IMO but it'll be a sloppy decision victory, the margin depends on how much Roy has left in his legs.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
I think it's the right fight for Calzaghe to end his career.. and a good one for Roy because he wont end-up lying on his back unconcious
But it's more an exhibition than a fight.
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
I like Joe alot but at his age father time has to come knocking soon and against a RJJ that has the handspeed and power advantage along with having had to deal with adversity(Johnson&Tarver) so I would give him the slight edge in experience... People point to Jones as shot but fact of the matter is Roy has adopted a very effective style with less leaping in and a tighter defense thats not predicated so much on Reflex as it is basic fundamental boxing. Its not fair to compare a prime Jones to his current self, in his prime no one could touch him, but this version aint to shabby either. I would rate an 08 version of Jones better than anyone that Calzaghe has faced in relation to the speed and power..
-
Re: Calzaghe-Jones is on ! September 20th @ MSG
not a great fight for joe for me as there is not a great deal to gain from this, and roy seems re focused and hungry again, if roy gets in his rythym early and doesnt let joe dictate the pace of the fight, could be a long night for joe, i just hope i can afford to be there to see it happen:)

Thats a fight id rather him take but you know if Calzaghe won his haters will still say so what you beat a Middleweight. i have come to realise this after Lacy was called a "bum" Kessler "euro hype" then Joe did beat anyone "P4P" now its didnt beat anyone prime "P4P"
And Joe has looked bad in one fight and didnt show a lot of power now he is "past it" and "Feather fisted" forgetting the beating he put on the iron chinned Lacy or the body work that nearly had Kessler down.

to be fair though a undefeated undisputed middleweight champ looks alot better than on a resume than a faded legend.

Of course i want the Pavlik fight style wise Joe cannot fail to impress in that fight.
It has to happen, weather Arum cashes in on Pavlik yet im unsure.

Hopefully Calzaghe doesn't retire after Jones and we might just get to see Pavlik - Calzaghe.
