The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?
IMO it was Michael Grant...they made such a big deal out of him and then Lewis made short work of him and after that the McCline debacle(I just post what boxrec noted about it in Grants record...)"Grant down from first punch of the fight. Referee stops the fight after Grant says his ankle might be broken."...After that it was bye bye...
What do yo people think...?!?

Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?

Agree and I guess it applies to every Jr. out there. They have the father's name so imagine the pressure they have to carry :-\.

Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?
Theres no competition for this one. Has to be the one and only Audley Harrison, no one in the history of boxing has been so overly hyped and so embarrassingly been exposed!! imo
I dont think folks over in america realise how much over hyped he was but here in the Uk it was a daily barrage of bullshit untill he got knocked out.

I wouldn't write off Chavez jr he seems to be improving every fight. He knocked out an undefeated albeit unknown fighter in Loriga last time out and he seems to have the heart for it IMO. Also I wouldn't say all Juniors turn out that bad look at Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather there sons both turned out half decent lol.
On a serious note though Ordinary Harrison has to be the winner and worse still is I heard the other day that his handlers are trying to line him up for a world title fight soon. How? I'll never know but nothing suprises me any more.

I am an Aussie but i was in the UK in 2001 to see Fraudly's first fight against some poor janitor. Your right about the bullshit being talked about him. I remember one commentator saying he is like Lewis but better. That he'd be champ within 10 fights....
Millions watched that first fight, we even had the big screen showing it in the pub i was living in.

Speak of the devil,I just realized that Grant is having a comeback fight tomorrow night in Philly after being out for a year.McCline knocked him out with a jab. This guy is eventually getting wrecked....again!

Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?

I think he over achieved in his career. Considering he pretty much fought with only one eye

Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?
Jeff Lacy is a top contender for this "accolade."
-
Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?
Paul Willams.
completely overated after beating Margarito.
quite a few guys thought he could beat Mayweather lol then got exposed by a slick southpaw Carlos Quintana who showed that good lateral movement and great counter skills and accuracy is all you need to beat Willams. Williams did good to dominate him in the rematch though, now he is back to being overated again.

Shame he got knocked out in the second fight after exposing Williams. Too much confidence maybe?

Sure, considering he has no amateur history. Imagine an amateur with around 30 fights getting into the ring with the pros and having people want to see them fight #1 ranked opponents.

I don't think there's much hype going on about him, nor is there Valuevmania. He may be a giant, but he's too small for his contender shoes.

Re: The most overhyped boxer...who would that be ?!?
Its not always the boxers fault either;half the time its the fat boys in suits spewing out bullshit to get the masses feeling like national pride will get a new free ride.$$$. Fight fans know its an each way bet all the way. With all the strings attached to fighters and the expectations of a nation or the world riding along ,no wonder some are caught up in it all only to lose heart when they awaken from a ring nap or meet a style with all their answers.
