Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
I thought I'd look up this guy on boxrec as I remember he was in the 2002 video game "Mike Tyson's Heavyweight Boxing" on the PS2. Which by the way is a pretty crappy and hard game.
Anyway this guy is 32-0 only 10 KO's though. And hasn't fought nobody.
Malik Scott

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?

Yep and so was Frans Botha, and Oleg Maskaev, and Hasim Rahman.
Maskaev was good in that game too. Fuck thats a ridicilious game though.
Anyway yeah I'm surprised this guy hasn't stepped up from the Charles Shuffords of the world yet to fight somebody. Whats the point in bein 32-0 if you aren't in it to win it?

That game was terrible imo.
It was damn near impossible to master and Tyson was unbeatable LoL!!!
Perhaps he's the same story as JCC Jr.

Precisely what I was going to say, because I remember seeing him on some undercards, and he was a truly dreadful fighter to watch as I remember. Tall and with a good reach, but he really never pressed forward, never pushing fighters and just boxing at range. Unless he's changed dramatically, I doubt he'll be shocking the world anytime soon.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
More then anything I think he's too small...
His skills are there and he's decent to good but unless he picks it up BIG time I don't see him as champ.

Yeah, he likes to use the ring....a lot.
Weird how we have an in shape American heavyweight out there with good skills and an undefeated record and he is basically a nobody. His hype was big early in his career, then just did nothing to the point where he lost that hype.

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Some boxing writer nicknamed him "8 round UD" cause that's all that ever happens when he fights. Says it all I guess.
Majesty and Starr think very highly of him.

Was that at the point in his career three or four years ago when he was being talked up as a potential challenger for a heavyweight title, or nowadays where some are still talking him up, but with an undercurrent of "he'll never make the step up."
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Scott biggest claim to fame is that he sparred with Lennox Lewis. That's pretty much it

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
I just have to say that Mike Tyson's Heavyweight Boxing for PS2 was actually pretty good if you put in the time to learn to play it. It had a great cast of heavyweights.
Along with the fighters already mentioned there was: Tua, Holmes and Witherspoon. And if you beat the game you got to play as 20 year old mike tyson which was cool.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
man did anybody actually beat tyson in that game? that was a hard ass game, could never beat tyson
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Yeah I remember Malik Scott. He was a pretty good prospect. Him and Dominick Guinn were in the same stable and fighting on a lot of the same cards and against the same opponents. Guinn suddenly stepped up with Michael Grant and it paid off bigtime. Since then he´s had a some big losses but also a few good wins. Scott never stepped up for some reason. A bit of a shame.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Yeah ive heard of him, think that David Bostice is about the best name on his record which is a shame for someone who is 30-0. He is another heavyweight who has become obsessed with piling on the pounds and weighed in last time out at 248lb. Interesting really when you look at the fact that last time he scored a knockout he was weighing in at 226lbs and that was almost 4 years ago. Also at that point he was scoring a knockout in over 50% of his contests and although he has never been a great puncher he was certainly a better puncher in them days.
Anyway he must be injured now as he has always been quite active but hasn't fought for almost 8 months and doesn't seem to have anything lined up!

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Breaking Malik Scott News for all you Malik-maniacs
The IBF has scheduled a purse bids on August 5 for heavyweight "Fast" Eddie Chambers' USBA mandatory defense against Malik Scott.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Eddie Chambers is a good fighter. Could be cruiserweight champion imo, hope he wins. HUGE step up for Scott.

Yeah we should see just how deserved Scott is of his "Perfect Record". Chambers is good just struggles with stamina a bit and is quite featherfisted. We will also see how Chambers comes back from defeat.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
I dont think Chambers is that Feather Fisted. I though he could have taken Povetkin out if he sustained the pressure he had on him in the first three rounds. Stamina though appears to be a problem.

Maybe feather fisted was the wrong expression. He doesn't hit like Foreman though. I think he looks a bit like a younger version of Chris Byrd but Byrd had better stamina

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
I like Eddie but his lack of offense is surprising...he throws very well, not with tons of power but short sharp punches. His defense is very good but those bigger guys (the "superheavies") can hurt him whether he has his guard up or not.
Malik Scott is feather fisted....how can a guy that big not KO more fighters???
Where have all the hard ass fighters from America gone?!?!?! Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe....I guess they stay in the lower weight classes now a days. Wish Kelly Pavlik was a heavyweight at like 6'5 240...that would be pretty cool

They Don't need to be that big. They just need to be good. Look at Ali 6'3 210-220 in his prime. He would beat every single heavy now no problem.

Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
I know people will say I'm a Wlad "nut hugger" but I say this in general and I'm definently not using Wlad as THE example BUT.....the fighters today are bigger and stronger than they used to be.
Ali is one of the greatest of all-time but he was THE BIGGEST heavyweight of his era as well. Which is why him beating Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe....it would be a lot harder than beating Foreman as those guys are all bigger than Ali AND they had good technical boxing skills.

Foreman was bigger than Holyfield. He also came back as an old overweight man and won the heavyweight title. So to me the 70s crop would beat the modern BIGGER heavyweights. There have always been giants in heavyweight division like Carnera, Abe Simon and Buddy Baer from the old days but when they got in the ring with a well trained mobile heavyweight they got beaten badly (Carnera Vs Max Baer and Buddy Baer and Abe Simon Vs Joe Louis)
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Foreman was 6'4 220 in his prime.....Evander was 6'3 218-220 in his prime but he was a better BOXER than Foreman was in his prime. George would knock Evander the fuck out in their primes but Ali would have trouble with him because he was like a mix of Joe Frazier and Ken Norton....big awkward and never stopped working and Ali had trouble with both those guys.
Foreman never fought Bowe or Lewis and there was good reason at that time in his career

Biggest Heavyweight of his era? are you kidding?!??! What defines "biggest" for you? If your talking height; Ernie Terrell, Jeff Merritt, Duke Sabedong were taller and heavier...Joe Bugner and George Foreman and Dante Cane were just as tall and heavier...the list goes on and one, why are you so hung up on size? Specifically what size are you talking about?!?!? :o
Today's fighters are heavier becuase in the days of competitive heavyweight action 15 rounds of punching was expected...watch Ali-Frazier, Holmes-Norton, Liston-Mechem, Dempsey-Tunney then watch Wlad weeze and gasp to go 10 rounds and tell me how great Dr Steal Hammer is! Todays heavies are fatter, slower and have less stamina then even the heavies of 20 years ago...
Primo Carnerra, Ernie Terrell, Jeff Merrit, Gerhard Zech, Hein Ten Hoff, Mike White, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Rodolfo Marin, Tyrell Biggs all great big guys that were hardly dominant for their times...
Face it, today's heavyweights are pathetic and Wlad is the best of the worste crop of fighters in probably 40 years!
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Fine Ali was smaller than Earnie Terrell...Joe Louis was smaller than Buddy Baer and Primo Carnera but it doesn't make those guys great. Ali had plenty of skill but the big guys of his era: Terrell, Foreman, and all the other guys you list weren't COMPLETE fighters which is why I state Ali would have trouble with the guys like Lewis, Bowe, and Holyfield. Foreman only learned to box late in his career if he knew that in his prime he would have beaten Ali or at least gone the distance because he wouldn't have gased out
Lennox Lewis was a complete fighter, Riddick Bowe was a complete fighter, and Evander Holyfield was a complete fighter....those guys could punch with power AND box extremely well.
You can't really name ANYONE even Ali that would have an easy time with those guys.

"Foreman only learned to box late in his career" ?!?!? Foreman was a DOMINANT amateur that won an Olympic Gold Medal for chrissake it was only perhaps the greatest fighter of all time that beat him in his prime (and Ali was well beyond his)...As for LL, Riddick Bowe and Evander I would agree that none are an easy fight but my money would certainly be on a prime Ali...I would only add that Wlad WOULD be an easy fight for Ali for a multiple of reasons...
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
Foreman didn't BOX in the amateurs he just brawled....George had only been in boxing for 1 year before he won Gold in Mexico City.....so NO he didn't know how to BOX that was something he had to learn over his pro career and when I say box I mean BOX hit and not get hit, use the jab, and so on.
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
He wasn't Willie Pep in there and he wasn't even Lennox Lewis or Felix Savon....he did what he did in the pros only he didn't hit hard (like he did in the pros) until he trained with Sonny Liston
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NABqIWMCvI0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLv-Ye-HHC4
Foreman was just a brute in there....there is no "boxing" only brawling
And who did Ali have more trouble with? Foreman or the guys who could box with him?
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
What do you mean he hasn't fought anyone?? Otis Tisdale, the Big Buck Sedrick Fields, he's fought em all ;D

Foreman was 22-4 as an amateur and while he started relatively late at 17 he quickly became dominant, yes it was mosly do to his power...but unlike other big hitters he knew how to use his size and power and not much changed when he came back after retiring for ten years...the only difference was that what were mid-tier fighter in his first career were now top contenders and champions...face it if foreman was just "a brute" his career would have been no more than George Chuvalo's but Foreman was a great deal more..If what you say is true then George should have had siginficantly more decision victories in his "second career", did he?...If you want to argue about how fighters today are so much bigger, stronger and better how can you explain the success of RJJ, James Toney, Chris Byrd, Evander Holyfield and Michael Moorer at heavyweight?
Now getting back to Ali-Foreman, first Ali's legs were done when hey fought in 74 it was his wits that took Foreman's heart and belt that night...To this day big George says the reason he never got his rematch was that "I didn't want one"... you see, even a declining Ali had the ability to beat his opponents in so many ways...
I was unaware that Foreman ever trained with Liston and since he was knocking everyone out in the amateurs I didn't think he needed anyone to teach him how to hit...
-
Re: Ever heard of undefeated Heavyweight Malik Scott?
....Jesus dude...Foreman was a freak of nature he won the Olympics with only a year of boxing to go on and won another heavyweight title at 45 years old and it's not because the fighters were easy.
Holyfield is 45 right now do you see him beating guys like Foreman did when he came back???? Earnie Shavers and Larry Holmes fought long in their careers and they never achieved the success late in their careers that George did. If it was more of the status quo that fighters maintain power for that long then Mike Tyson would still be around as a top level fighter. Foreman in his comeback was a faaaaaar different fighter than in his Prime...in his prime he was a hook and uppercut puncher and in his comeback he threw the 1-2 for the most part.
My reasoning is that if Foreman threw the 1-2 more vs Ali he would have #1 kept Ali from countering as good as he did kit would be impossible to stop him completely but keeping distance with your punches would make Ali have to reach out more when he countered therefore making him easier to counter back #2 If Foreman was more measured in his attack he wouldn't have wore himself out
Ali won because Foreman didn't throw straight punches and therefore didn't connect cleanly but me explaining how Ali had SOME flaws and IS human is like talking to a brick wall.....I get attacked for not respecting Ali....actually when you add in his flaws his career is MORE impressive but hey who am I to try and explain this kind of stuff....Ali was a God and needed his own division because mere mortals shouldn't even be allowed to mention his name let alone step in the ring with him.

Lyle I know Ali had his flaws. The main one being he was suseptible to a good left hook (Frazier+Cooper). He was never really troubled too badly by the 1-2. What perople are trying to say is basically look through history at the great heavys and very rare do you get one above 230lbs, the only real exception being Lennox but even he IMO wasn't as good as a prime Holyfield and got him at the right time!

I KNOW I KNOW! But what can I say? GOAT= Cassius Marcellus Clay (AKA Muhammad Ali)
