Word! Wilson was a standout in that film!
I actually quite like that film, though a lot of people I know hate it. Its not great but I find it watchable. The ending was a bit cliche, but again, I liked it.

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
Viggo Mortenson - Eastern Promises
I put that one ahead of all the others because he is easily the most badass character in movie history in my book. What he did, oh man. You have to watch the movie once and then go back and watch it again to get how amazing of a character he really is.
Daniel Day Lewis - There Will Be Blood
Rocky - Rocky 1,2,Balboa
Michael Cain - Children of Men
Uma Thurman - Kill Bill
Dudley Moore - Arthur
More to come.

Yeah, awesome movie. Had I been told there was a 5 minute male frontal nudity scene beforehand I might have thought twice, and they went and turned it into one of the coolest scenes in the movie and made him even more badass. On second watch I liked it even more there are layers and layers of symbolism in the movie that I was completely oblivious to and then of course you pay attention to everything he did before the big plot twist.
One of my favorite movies ever I might watch it again tonight.

Don't know how I forgot that one. Watched Eastern Promises about 8 times already; love it. That was a brutal scene in the showers. Viggo is a good actor and was great in History of Violence and obviously L.O.T.R.'s movies.
-
Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
Lol, Amat inspired me to watch Eastern Promises again and they just played the shower scene. F#cking brutal.
They did an awesome job representing the Russian Mafia tattos and how each one is supposed to tell an individual story of that person. They even look "prison" made. Good stuff; not sure if he did, but Viggo should have gotten some sort of award for that performance.

He got nominated for Best Actor but lost out to Daniel Day Lewis. I'm not so sure I can disagree with that simply because Lewis' performance was much more epic and maniacal performances always score at the Oscars. I preferred Eastern Promises though but at that point it was just a matter of preference.
Speaking of Best Actors, Forrest Whitaker as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland was great as well.

Haha, I watched Last King 3 times in the last week. Forrest did an absolutely amazing job. I'm for some reason always been fascinated with Idi AMin. Guy used to feed prisoners to his crocodiles he kept in a pool.:-\

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
Oh man you would love it.
Set in like 2020 dystopian London, Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Cain and a few others based off the book by P.D. James. It's about a world where all women are no longer fertile and no child has been born for 20 years or so. The world went to shit and London started forcing Immigrants into camps. Oh man, I'm making it sound so dumb. Amazing cinematography, it really makes the movie imo as it is just so damn real. Follows Clive Owen all the way throughout, they have crazy scenes with like 10 minutes of straight action, not to give anything away but a war scene and the camera follows him for 7 minutes as he runs through rubble, trips up, bullets fly by, oh man it's completely over the top and a beautiful beautiful movie.
Don't know if you're a movie review guy but it's 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and as always they made the sell much better then I did.
Children of Men Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes
Children of Men works on every level: as a violent chase thriller, a fantastical cautionary tale, and a sophisticated human drama about societies struggling to live. This taut and thought-provoking tale may not have the showy special effects normally found in movies of this genre, but you won't care one bit after the story kicks in, about a dystopic future where women can no longer conceive and hope lies within one woman who holds the key to humanity's survival. It will have you riveted.
My advice is to download it tonight, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen and given what your taste in movies seems to be I can almost guarantee that you till like it. Download it tonight bro seriously it's as close to a must watch as you'll ever see.
Also let me add that the chase scenes, explosions, gunfights, atmosphere ect. are the most realistic you have ever seen. I mean the shit is crazy. Crazy it's like THATS WHAT WOULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN, no hails of handgun gunfire nonsense, this movie made me about 10 times more critical of every action movie I've ever seen. I'm now one of those stiffs who roll their eyes at most action scenes you see now. It's that good I couldn't recommend it more. Some have gripes with the story (being vague here) like Bilbo did I think but everything else in it is truly something to behold.

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
Cool man, I'll go buy it tomorrow. Any movie I like I just buy it on DVD and rewatch it over and over, lol. Sounds like a good one.
Even though it's a different type movie, 30 Days of Night was awesome IMO. The sheer brutality and the way they communicated, plus the whole visual aspect of being in total darkness in Alaska was very cool to me.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
I've bought it at Blockbuster for those 3 for 15 deals twice now. Usually I do the same. I only have a 40 GB harddrive so I can't usually keep movies for long when I download them so I download them and if I like them I buy them and watch them again like you said.
With Children of Men I had a friend put me on to it, loved it, bought it and then gave it to my brother to watch on his plane ride back. Then just bought it 3 days ago and can't believe I was without it for so long. I'm trying to do a marathon of John Adams watching that every night but Children of Men interrupted that for a night. Let me know what you think of it.
As for the thread topic, another.
Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale both in The Prestige. Another favorite of mine, excellent direction and perfect casting. Had either of these guys performances not been as great as they were, the movie wouldn't have been nearly as good with 1 character lacking. But no, they were both great. Jackman though stood out because I had never seen anything of his past X Men and Van Helsing which were both cool movies but nothing extraordinary in either performance. I knew he was an acclaimed but never knew he was capable of this.
He also did a very good job in The Fountain which is easily the weirdest movie I've ever seen. And not in a Brazil sort of way but in it's own level of weirdness, just a bizarre movie that I have never fully understood because I've been high each time I've seen it. With visuals like that it's to hard to pass up.
-
Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
I keep meaning to watch The Prestige but I always got something else on. They show it every day on the Drama Channel or whatever its called.
Never heard of The Fountain.
With Batman and Heath Ledger and all that going on; I just remembered The Four Feathers, IMO Heath's best movie. Loved it.
-
Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
The Fountain isn't worth buying anymore. It really is made for people who are high I'm convinced of it's waaay out there.
The Prestige, that's a must see. Literally. One of the best stories you will ever see and with top notch acting too. Michael Cain, Christain Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson and with one of the craziest plot twists I have ever seen. Make sure to watch it next time you see it. I have the Starz package too I'll give you a heads up if I see it on the guide. You won't regret that really. I've never heard a bad word about it. About two magicians and their separate rises to the top and their attempts to sabotage one another. Also, David Bowie does a great job playing Nikolai(I think) Tessla, the Tessla electricity guy.

I just scrolled and see it's on at 5:30 Thursday morning, so I got the record timer set. Thanks dude.

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
This has turned into a really good thread. Really interesting to read through all the responses. I havent seen the Prestige yet though I have seen clips of Bowie playing Tesla. That children of Men film looks interesting too. Will have to check them out out. Cheers Amat!

Love that movie. Saw it for the 1st time about 2 months ago and recorded it and watched it several more times. Emily Watson is always good in roles as well.
Donny, you ever watch that Apacolypto movie yet? Gotta see it.

No I haven't seen it Legion, but on your reccomendation I'll hunt it down!
Funny that I mention that film after we spoke about the IRA book so recently, for another outlook on that genre of film "MickeyBo and Me" was rather good.
And as strange a film as it sounds "Inside I'm dancing" is a good Irish comedy/tearjerker.
The story fociuses around two disabled men in wheelchairs!
Honestly!

I think I have seen Mickey Bo and Me; have to look it up to refresh my memory. Look for a movie called The Pilot's Wife. An interesting story with the IRA entwined in the story. A good little movie.

Think I've seen it also:D
Ever seen the film Ordinatry decent Criminals?
The film is based on Irish mobster Martin Cahill.
However, for fans of the movie there's a much grittier and more accurate film available in "The General."

Re: Favourite Characters in Movies?
I'm about 20 minutes into The Prestige and already digging it. Nice cast.
I think her name is Julia? She played in 10th and Wolf. And Alley, the guy behind the electric fence? He's Andy Serkis and was the guy they used in Lord of the Rings to do the voice for Smeagol and also all the actual movements for the character. Good stuff so far.
