WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Jeff Lacy 23-1-0 (17 KOs)
vs
Epifanio Mendoza 28-5-1 (24 KOs)
at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, CA
Lacy gets another chance to shine (or put on
another mediocre performance) against power
punching Epifanio Mendoza.
My opinion Lacy is going to look really bad and
get hurt against a guy that he should be destroying.
I wouldn't be surprised if he loses this one.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Its do or die for Lacy.
He can't get any lower than Rock bottom.
(How harsh does that sound when looking at his record and seeing only one loss against Calzaghe of all people!)

But we all know records can be somewhat deceiving. Look at Emmanuel Burton's record;D
I agree it's do or die. Looking forward to this one. I hope Lacy wins as I want to see him get back in the mix.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
For some reason I'm always rooting against the one-dimensional power guys. Lacy and Mendoza both fit that description for me.

I find myself rooting against those types as well alot, but I feel sorry for Jeff. Would at least like to see him do something memorable other than be remembered for getting totally schooled by Joe and being a timeclock for Manfredo.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Who got banned? Someone from the WNF crew? Say it aint so.
-
Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Lacy is finished. I expect him to win this one handy though but when he mixes it with the top names he'll get dominated.

I hope so. He's gotta win and look impressive doing it; or he'll be lucky IMO to even get on WNF's next time out. Mendoza will bring the fight out in him; and that's what he needs. Recently he seemingly fights only as hard as the guy in front of him; and Mendoza isn't coming in to be someone else's bobblehead like when Dawson train wrecked him. Plus I'm sure Mendoza would like to have a big name win on his resume; so I expect fireworks.

I agree... Lacy has to step it up and make it happen 2nite, I still say he is better suited for 175 with his frame, he walks around about 195 pounds solid while not training, but we'll see if he indeed went back to the basics like he boasted to train for

I disagree he's very short for light heavy I'll do a little boxrec research for ya.
Lacy 5' 10"
Hopkins 6' 1"
Tarver 6' 2"
Dawson 6' 3"
RJJ 5' 11"
Calzaghe 5' 11"
Woods 6' 2"
Lacy doesn't have the ability to work inside like he would have to at 175. The guys that are near his height are on a whole other level than he is. If anything I think he should see if he could get down to 160, I know that would be tough for him though.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
I dont know man, he hung in there with the taller SM'S
Pemberton 6'3
Ruben Williams 6'1
Omar Sheika 6'0
So he has handled taller guys just fine, albeit they were far from world beaters but he was able to bang on the inside pretty effectively

Lacy was badly hurt against Ross Thompson and Vitali Tsypko. Please do NOT name Lacy toghther with a top 25 smw name for he is NOT!

No, he did very bad against Ruben and Omar if called a champ.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Did VD really get banned?
If Mendoza's got anything left he could be a bit dangerous cause he always had power but he looked pretty much out of it against Dawson last time.

Yea, you just have to clear your cookies and temp files and you can view the main forum. Try and log in and it will reload cookies and you'll have to rinse repeat.
So VD is probably checking us out. Getting banned for the biggest fight of the year.

Well I tell you what, Mendoza is 6' 1" and we know he is definately a one-trick power pony. I say that if Lacy doesn't impress tonight, and by that I mean a he has to do something that hurts Mendoza, he has no chance at 175. Mendoza has power, but his chin has been his downfall.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
When he destroyed Robin Reid I must admit I thought that we had a new superstar in boxing but if ever a defeat destroyed a fighter it was that one Lacy suffered against Calzaghe. I mean did anyone see the performance that Reid put up against Calzaghe? He lost a close SD (RIGHTLY SO) and then got destroyed off Lacy. Must have just been an extraordiary night for Lacy because i'd still fancy Reids chances with Manfredo and Lacy really did struggle with that bum.
-
Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Sorry guys I'm gonna have to wait for some time to dish out anymore rep. I'll have to give ya'll IOU's

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
OK, now I join the Toney fans from last week in hoping for not just a win but an improved product in the ring. Like Toney's sparring video, this video provides some encouragement as he seems to have some handspeed back. Needs that speed back, and he needs to stop lumbering and fast on his feet again. I'll be wearing my fanhood in my signature, I just really hope for a good performance, all I can really for at this stage. This is pretty much make or break and who knows, if he's electrifying then maybe I don't have to worry so much about his fight with Jermain Taylor which I don't foresee as going well.
Hope for the best, I do think that the Manfredo fight was a fluke. In the 2 rounds before he tore his rotator cuff against Typsko he looked really good so I'm hoping for a repeat of that performance. I don't think he'll lose but a loss at this point would be just not looking good.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qCFtI00PewA
I'm nervous, I don't like this one bit.

Reid was all but finished by the time he fought Lacy.
The worst outcome here would be an unconvincing Lacy victory as it'll lead to an uninspiring matchup with Taylor. Id he wins well then the same fight might be intriguing, otherwise the fans are better off if he loses.
Lacy's been talking good, but sparring and fighting aere different, and he has a lot of mental and physical scars to contend with.
-
Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
A lot of people were still taking Reid to win including Calzaghe himself. That was a destruction, my favorite Lacy fight and I think he was at his peak there. Was amazed at how well he covered ground in that one and used the jab to cut off the ring and get inside, that's something we haven't seen him do since.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
Good little video. Very much looking forward to tonight.

Re: WNF Thread Lacy vs. Mendoza
What time does the Lacy fight start ET please? Hopefully I can find a stream on TVU or similar.
I watched ESPN FNF for the first time ever last week on TVU. Can't believe I never thought of looking for it online before. :)

Starts here in Texas at 9, so I think east coast is one hour ahead of us:confused: 10'ish or so for you?
