Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
No one is gonna want to fight this cat now. He will be avoided and ducked just like he was 3 or 4 years ago. This is going to really piss him off and it will be very dissapointing to see it happen again. Him and Winky need to start a support group.
I am just glad Miguel did not duck him.
:lickish:

Why you hating so much?? Do you want me to quote your ass too? You are the worse of the Cotto fans.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Antonio Margarito was being ducked anyway regardless if he wouldn't of fought Miguel Cotto he would still be ducked so your saying beating Miguel Cotto hasn't done his career any good ? your post is confusing im not sure what your trying to say.............

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Well the top 4 Welters have fought him the only one that didnt was Mosley who himself is coming off a loss so may be forced into it.
Never really got the most avoided tag Mayweather always matched himself carefully and Mosley had other things on his mind.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
i think what his saying is now people have a real reason to fear him , not just the risk/reward thing, he was a little bit of an unkown quantity as far as fighting at the top level is concerned, wereas now i cant see many people wanting to be in with the first guy to beat cotto

That would depend on how the victory has done for his popularity. If he does good numbers on ppv and makes money people will want the pay day.
Before he was huge risk little reward now he is big risk big reward im willing to guess.
Anyway HBO have a new love child.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Dangerous fighters are normally avoided when they are not big enough names to bring big money to the table. After last night his popularity will have doubled and his market value too. I don't see him struggling for fights now. I see Mayweathers return coming soon. I expect Mayweather to be far too good technically if this does happen, but I was wrong last night. I hope for a Toni vs De La Hoya fight in december, not sure about that though.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Unfortunately, the whole welterweight division has become less interesting:
Paul "The Punisher" Williams beat Antonio Margarito, who beat Miguel Cotta, who beat Shane Mosley.
De La Hoya is after easy fights with big paydays against guys who are starting to make a name for himself.
Floyd Mayweather got out as any of the four fighers mentioned above would probably beat him.
Paul "The Punisher" Williams has the style to beat Margarito. Might be a big payday, but can't imagine Margarito taking that one so quickly.
Antonio Margarito has the style to beat Miguel Cotta. Can't see anyone wanting to pay for a rematch.
Kermit Cintron and Carlos Quintana have taken their beatings..

i dont think well see de la hoya vs margarito for one big reason - if he fights a mexican such as margarito for his last bout one which will be important to him , am i right in thinking hell have very little of the mexican support? much like when the fought jcc as many see him as being a sell out

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
So what does that make Cotto? When he is pressured he falls apart mentally
-
Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
At least now when they call him the most avoided man in boxing everyone will clearly see why, were as before it was easily dismissed as bullshit.
-
Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Naw, this only clarifies that previous reluctance's by some fighters to avoid Margaritos company in the ring were well thought out decisions :shinner:
Its the ones that labeled him just an over rated Journeyman and a completley one deminsional brawler who should join Corky over here---> :dunce:........Respect to Cotto for gearing up and doing his best but if they rematch,I think we see a replay!

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
I'm pretty sure Toni is gonna be getting the fights now, he is the guy to beat now in the WW, regardless of his loss to Williams. Williams is gonna want his shot but I want Toni to make some money first the guy deserves it.
-
Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Margarito made himself many future millions with his performance last night. He's now the money man in the division. The guy who set himself back four years was Cotto, who spent half the fight running away from Margarito. There's no way Cotto will ever get back in the ring with Margarito.

Danny G's subtle Floyd dig thread ;)

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
Huge respect for both fighters.
Tony and Cotto did unbelievably well.
But.....The Pretty Boy beats Tony.
I really think he does.

Yeah i see Mayweather doing what Cotto was doing for the first 5 rounds, but sustaining it throughout the 12.
He enjoys fighting like that, on the backfoot. Cotto never really looked like he was enjoying it.
I just think Mayweather is way too good defensively and too strong mentally for Margarito to have the same success.
As daft as it sounds, on last nights performance i think Cotto has a better chance of beating Mayweather.....still very much doubt he would tho ;)

I completely agree ono!
100%
Mayweather can work off the backfoot for twelve, we've seen it with Corrales, Baldomir and with Hatton.
Although eache were less physically imposing each fight showed that Mayweather can last for rounds without even being grazed by a punch, whilst countering with 5 -6 shots.
I think he could do this to Tony.
Tony Margarito tough....what a chin, what a gladiator!

No way.. Danny is giving Antonio Props..
props and stating facts..
The only guy who i think will fight tony now is P williams.. and thats a good thing cause tony needs that rematch and more unification wont hurt..
after that.. theres going to be some trouble getting fights.

When your at the top it is hard to keep getting ducked though, he is in most peoples eyes the true Welterweight champion now, and that is something people will want to take for themselves.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
I'm not sure where to post this and I dare not start a new thred just for this...
I don't think Cotto was hitting Margarito as hard as we imagine. He was hitting scared and punching up, both of which take some of the mustard off the shots.
Please remember this is just a thought and not something that I have etched into my brain.

Re: Tony set himself back 3 or 4 years
I think either Tony fights Paul which i bet on Paul to pull it off. Or i think Oscar may some how get Margrito to go up 154 and fight him because if he does fight Margrito he sure not going to drain himself. To tell you the truth i think Margrito moves up for his pay check but at 154 i can see Oscar knocking him out but just a opion like to see the fight though.

For me not so much that he wasnt hitting him hard enough but the mentality of how he fought the fight and the way he backed off and boxed and gave tony room to follow with those strait shots all the time was one reason for cotto's loss..
he already had respect from tony but tony wasnt going to show it in the fight.. instead of bieng on the back foot there could have been ways to push tony back and still do some defensive work and not make it all out war..
Not that it mattered cos cotto took shots all night anyway so he may as well have pressed somemore and given more back in the hope that pushing tony on the backfoot would have affected his fighting.
