Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I been saying for a while that Joshua Clottey is heavily avoided like Margarito has been because as rough, durable and metodical he is... Clottey is no Joke the guy usually hydrates up to 160 by fight time to go with a great High guard and good combos.... Your gonna see Judah get grinded down and broken up like Cotto did to him... I rate this kid up there with the Margarito, Cotto's of the World, he has a great opportunity tonight against Judah and will show on the big stage what he can do..
I believe both Margarito and Clottey were injured in there fight. I would love to see them go at it again since Clottey is big and dosent get outmuscled and stands his ground as well as being good defensively would give Margarito big time trouble again...
Tonight is Clottey's time again and like Margarito has had to crawl back into the picture again and after he beats Judah I love to see him fight Cotto next the beginning of the year, as I believe Clottey can beat him
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Clottey has all the tools to do it big in the division..
But not only would i prefer my guy Zab wins this but i give genuine chance to pull this one out.. i believe he has matured enough and that he knows this is the time to show his talent and the chances wont keep coming
I'll leave you with a bit of a judah quote i quite enjoyed.
Said Judah, referring to their New York roots, "We are from two of the toughest boroughs in New York. There's a saying in New York: The Bronx makes it, but Brooklyn takes it. I've never seen the Bronx take anything but a beating."
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Joshua Clottey is a good allrounder he does no one thing great but he is a solid allround boxer plus his counter punching is top notch aswell...........
Im not quite sure how far Joshua Clottey can go though thats the problem i can see him beating Zab Judah, Luis Collazo, Carlos Quintana, and a fight with Andre Berto would be close at this point in Andre Berto's career and i could see him beating Kermit Cintron depending on how well he takes Kermit Cintron's bombs.........
But i can't see Joshua Clottey beating Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams, Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, but if Joshua Clottey does win he should fight Kermit Cintron or chase a fight with Andre Berto............
But i wish Joshua Clottey all the best he has been unlucky in his career with a DQ loss to Carlos Baldomir which he was easily winning then an unlucky loss to Antonio Margarito which he could of won because Antonio Margarito was in bad shape at that time with injuries but unluckily for Joshua Clottey he broke his hand and then proceeded to lose the next 8 rounds or 7 out of the next 8 rounds.........
I hope Joshua Clottey picks up a belt and i hope he beats Zab Judah he deserves a big win.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
No doubt he deserves it..
but i have to disagree with you on the collazo front..
A slick boxer who can move is not a good path for clottey..
his shape is great and his heart matches.. but i just dont think his style lends well to Luis'
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I'm pulling for Clottey and got him winning this one. I do, however, wonder how much fire he's got left. He hasn't looked all that stunning as of late, but then again neither has Judah.
I fear if Zab wins this it will be the same song different verse; big title fight, big let down. Honestly I gave up on Zab, so I guess that makes me not a real devoted fan, but I expect a damn good fight tonight because this is almost a must win for both guys.
I hope those guys watched that massive event we witnessed last weekend, and maybe it put some fire in their bellies. Clottey by UD.

As good as Luis Collazo is he has limited punch output and Joshua Clottey keeps coming and his workrate is pretty good.......
I can see Joshua Clottey losing the early rounds against Luis Collazo but i can see him just edging out a points win vs Luis Collazo.....
But Luis Collazo is also another unlucky Welterweight who lost highly disputed decision to Ricky Haton then broke his hand against Shane Mosley and up until the broken hand he was doing well......
I also hope Luis Collazo gets another crack at a big name he also deserves it infact why not Andre Berto vs Luis Collazo should Andre Berto beat Zab Judah ?

I know its just opinion and your right when you say Luis is another unlucky welter..
But i hope Luis gets his shot at berto before Zab did.. cause in my opinion i'd be quite confident that zab could take berto out..
its quite a judah-spinks-esque matchup exept cory i think was slicker and berto has been knocked down by lesser competition. so i think it bodes well for judah.. if he so chooses to be prepared right and proves what he has.

Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
You'll see man at this time I rate him just as good as anybody... Like mentioned Clottey is a great Counter puncher to go with his durability... I think his style is a good one and lends himself a good style matchup to anyone

But also i think luis' punch output depends on the fighter he's in with..
because he is mainly a counter puncher he tends to jab and paw and keep the jab and hook going and work some body until he find openings..

as far as his chin goes i have always been adamant of preaching judahs power but his durability is something to respect and i hope zabs camp has stressed the importance of boxing early and preserving as much as possible to bag the early rounds and giving it all to the final bell as hard as it will be for zab later in the fight..
I must admit due to the fact that the mosely fight fell through and azb has been in shape and in camp basically since then i feel alot better about the shape he is coming in as..

To rate a fighter getting knocked down as a sole basis for a fight outcome is a little shortsighted dont you think Tito? Your boy Trinidad had gotten quite a few flash knockdowns in his career by not so hard punches... Same thing with Berto he got floored by a flash knock down and was not in trouble at all...
Also how can you call Berto Spinks-esque? Spinks has 0 power... Berto packs great power and unreal handspeed... Your pretty spot on usually Tito, but it sounds like you dont know anything about Berto and havent seen much of him based on your assesment... Also why is everyone on on Judah's nutz still... All I here is, "If Zab is focused he could be this or that" after about the 5 th time you say that about a fighter its a clear indicator that at the end of the day he isint really that fighter since he cant seem to put it all together... Boxing is just as mental and emotional as physical... Judah dosent have it, Judah is known more for his losses than wins, he always fails when he steps up... Tszyu, Mayweather, Cotto and loss to Baldomir as well.

No no.. your right..
as far as me judging berto for getting knocked down in a winning effort thats mighty hypocritical.. so sure discount that bro..
I dont know what it is about berto really.. i dont like or dislike him..
sure ive seen him man.. im not going to comment on the guy if i havent based my own opinion of him.. and i keep up with all the prospects whether they are my guys or not to be honest.. and his match making has been okay for a guy his level but he hasnt yet earned his title..
So based on what i have seen which is maybe 4 or 5 fights.. i gathered his general style.. great handspeed.. without really rating his oponents as anything but veterans as yet his power does look good. im not so sure about his footwork as such.. its not ploddy and when he steps he really steps with his punches well but i wouldnt say he was a boxer as such or really moves in a way that would make me think he would out box people..
And the zab fan thing is more just something that i have done for some time..
i dont care that zab isnt the greatest of guys i just hope that when we look back on his career that he hasnt wasted his talent cause im a fan of his..
i dont know bout the rest but i been a zab fan for a while

Dam right, he hasn't! Since the Corrales fight he's looked pretty shabby. Compared to his fight against Margarito he has looked like poo actually.
Maybe I should have said lazy instead of "like poo." Clottey sure looked lazy in the Flores fight.
I like the guy. I'm just nervous about tonight.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
He's so boring, take the Alvarez fight, he had a guy who could do nothing against him but he just cruised along, doing just enough. He's good but he's up there with Zahir Raheem in terms of boring for me.
I will be a lifelong Judah fan if he wins tonight. Same for Kirilov against Darchinyan.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Thinking about Clottey just drives home just how stacked the 147-pound division is. Head and shoulders above any other division.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Judah is way more skilled IMO. Neither of these guys are real hard hitter so I thhink we are in for a close decision. I'm going with Zab because he is a step faster and more natural at the weight, I think clottey has been draining himself lately down from around 170 lately so that may be why he's looked sluggish late. Stamina will play a big factor in this one.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Judah career is against the wall. He loses and he's done. He won't let it happen. Judah by UD

Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I want to pick Zab to win this fight, I really do. He's the man with the skills after all. But it's Zab in a big fight. You just know he's going to find a way to lose. Clottey is no Margarito, but Zab is no Cotto. I'm going to wait till they get in the ring before I decide which guy I'm going to cheer for.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
If Clottey beats judah (Im hoping he doesnt) then he should be a good addition to the eliet at 147 and could get in some good match ups with margs berto or PW for a unification. He seems good enough to be a top guy so hopeflly if he wins tonight hell get in some good fights
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I think Clottey is overrated. I don´t know for sure but I think so. I mean what has he actually done, except lose to Margarito and beat a spent Corrales? I think Clottey will be looked back on as a tough contender who wasn´t good enough to win a title. Like a Ben Tackie. But I´m wrong more often than I would like, so we´ll see tonight
On the other hand, Zab Judah was overrated for so long, that he has now become underrated. I think all 5 guys that beat him were better than Clottey and he did well in most of those losses. I got Zab.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Berto v. Clottey? That would be a good matchup.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Just as predicted... Great defense, Great Counterpunching and fast Combos, broke Judah down... Clottey is easily top 3 Welter in the world and would love to see a rematch with Margarito....
Ladies and gents Joshua Clottey has arrived and deservedly so:cool:

Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Head bunts. Gotta love Zab's mastery of English.

I didn't think Joshua Clottey looked that sharp he looked lazy at times and didn't put his combinations together as good as he can do.........
Certainly not Joshua Clottey's best performance but he won the fight 5-4 on my card and the cut was caused by a left uppercut not a headbutt another BS moment in Zab Judah's colorful career.....

He arrived. But it looks like he arrived in a Honda. Instead of a limo. He looked alright. He was just stronger than Judah.

Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Clottey isn't a star. He's a solid, tough, abraham-type fighter. But unlike Abraham he lacks one punch ko power.
That makes him unmarketable...to fighters and to the public. He won the fight but Judah probably still has more options of what to do next then Clottey does.

I think you might be right there. Clottey can only really look forward to his next fight. Judah on the other hand can do that, PLUS consider retirement. haha (sorry...not a judah fan)

Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
Loll.. heree we go :p
pretty good fight from both guys.. i had top rank announcers and i didnt think they were paying as much attention to the ammounts of time zab put in to boxing and were missing some of his good counter shots and slips and were generally too busy talking about clottey..
Is clottey with top rank or something bcause they payed alot of attention to him and i had it far closer.. i had it 4 a peice after 8 although i knew going to the score cards at that point would be in favour of clottey.. because i obviously watched zabs work close and those guys would have seen clotteys come forward style and probably given clottey a couple more then i would have liked..
horrible cut frankly.. shame it couldnt go to the full 12..
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
He will get his shot and chances.... I dont see the dissapointment in his performance.... I can tell you compubox was FOS.. judah didnt land half the punches he was credited for he was hitting elbows and forearms mostly... That sequence in the corner were Judah let it rip landed 0 punches to Clotteys head... Clottey is not Lazy he is a great defensive fighter and counterpuncher, he dosent go on the agressive unless his guy is wore down.. nothing wrong with that

I didn't say i was disappointed with his performance he got the win and looked on his way to a late TKO.........
But it certainly wasn't his best performance he didn't seem to have the same fire compared to when he fought Antonio Margarito, Diego Corrales........
Joshua Clottey does have a good defense and i agree he blocked more punches than Compubox gave him credit for but Zab Judah still landed some very hard digging shots to the body and the occasional straight left to the head.....
I just don't think Joshua Clottey is up there with Paul Williams, Andre Berto, Miguel Cotto etc i think he just falls short.......
I think he can give most of the top Welterweights a good argument but i can't see him beating majority of them but his chin/defense/counter punching/ won't be easy to deal with......
Overall he got the win and thats all that counts but based off that performance i can't see him beating the top Welterweights.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I just think thats shortsighted, wehn you look and see he is the most fundamentally sound out of all the Welters... Good straight punches, handspeed, power, chin great defense and footwork to go along with an imposing size, not to mention will and determination... The guy wont make any hig light reels but when you say he lacks fire I think thats relative to the opponent you are facing... Judah is dangerous with his spped, power and angles, Joshuw is methodical in his stalking and picking shots, his style is much like Winky minus the jab... He blocks blocks and then counterpunches.. These guys take a little longer to hit the big time because its not the most electrifying to watch, but it is the most consistent and proven method+
Nice debate as always ICB, hope all is well with you ;D

I agree with what your saying but i still can't see him beating the top Welterweights this is how i see it.....
Joshua Clottey vs Antonio Margarito = Antonio Margarito UD
Joshua Clottey vs Paul Williams = Paul Williams UD
Joshua Clottey vs Shane Mosley = Shane Mosley by UD
Joshua Clottey vs Floyd Mayweather = Floyd Mayweather by UD
Joshua Clottey vs Miguel Cotto = Miguel Cotto by UD
Joshua Clottey vs Andre Berto = Andre Berto by UD
The only other top Welterweights i can see him beating are Luis Collazo, Kermit Cintron......
Joshua Clottey is good but he isn't good enough to beat those 6 top Welterweights i listed above in my opinion.
-
Re: Your Gonna See A New Star Emerge Tonight
I obviously don't like him but I'm trying not to let that cloud my thinking of him as a fighter. He's good, very solid, durable, skilled. Just don't that he has that extra something to be a real elite fighter. Lacks ambition or fire or something, he just cruises too much. He'll never (unless he fights on too long) be really embarrassed in the ring by anybody because he's very solid but I don't see him as an elite guy.
