Most Protected Fighters
This has probably been hashed before...but who do you guys think are currently the most protected fighters? I bring this up because of my desire to see a live Chris John fight. He's a one hemisphere wonder!
That behemoth Tye Fields immediately jumps to mind. KO'd in 1 by the "dangerous" Monte Barrett!

Anthony Mundine. Now not earlier in his career.
The Petersons seem fairly protected.
Valuev earlier in career.

The thing is, JCC Jnr didn't have an amateur career and Khan is just a prospect. Pretty much all prospects are protected....especially when they have youth on their side. Surely it's more sensible for a fighter to learn the professional game properly, then to throw themselves in at the deep end.
The ams are a lot different to the pro's, so to me i see no problem in any decorated amatuer taking their time.
The Peterson bro's and Andre Ward are doing the same thing and imo it's the right thing to do.
Maybe if the fans and media didn't over-react to every loss and bad performance, we'd actually see prospects in more competitive fights. Just a thought.

To be fair it's not Froch's fault. Fail to see how he's over-protected when he's only had 23 fights. It's not his fault opponents pull out on a regular basis.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
Yeah, that's what I thought ono.
How can Froch be a protected fighter when no one will fight him? Taylors people (Lou Dibella) ADMITTED they'd sooner fight Lacy, not just for the money, because he's the EAISER option.
Inkin has pulled out twice against him in the past year. Pretty sure Berrio accepted then changed his mind.
I'm not much of a Froch fan, he seriously needs to land a fight, but protected fighter is - crap.
-
Re: Most Protected Fighters
1. Andre Berto
2. Carl Froak
3. Amir (The Chin) Khan

Ok Inkin pulled out but the guy is ranked no1 by the WBC its crazy.
He should have had a B level test by not he aint wheres the likes of Bika, Mundine, Berrio, Zuniga? all guys that travel and fight anyone. Froch maybe good but the moron tries to clown Calzaghe and Kessler but he aint done shit.

If those who you mentioned are B level fighters, so is the guy who Froch mullered isnide 2 rounds last year.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
Andre Ward in my mind
Andre Dirrell of the same olympic class is already talking title shot's and where the hell is our gold medalist? Fighting the like's of Jerson Ravelo and Roger Cantrell. C level fighter's where as our bronze medalist is fighting Anthony Hanshaw B level fighter's.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
How is Carl Froch protected when he is willing to fight the top fighters ? he has called out Joe Calzaghe that fight never happened.......
He was going to fight Dennis Inkin but Dennis Inkin pulled out.......
He was going to fight Jermain Taylor but Jermain Taylor is fighting Jeff Lacy........
I just think Carl Froch has been unlucky he isn't protected.

ICB you are pissing many off by pretending you aren't him. Personally, I think it is a bullshit move and you should own up. I also think it is creepy. You are figured out. Why are you being a bitch.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
hands down, Andre Berto he had his hand held all the way to a "world title" and given it against a guy who shouldn't have even been fighting for the retarded WBC Continental "Championship"

Bika, Mundine and Berrio are all fighters ranked by The Ring. Tatevosyan is a 35-year old guy with 7 losses (2 out of last 3 before Froch), who got lucky in meeting Markussen on his career's worst night (Markussen lost that fight more than Tatevosyan won it) and besides that has lost to everyone else half-decent he has met.
Please dont compare these fighters.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
No knock on Joe at all but he was overprotected for the majority of his career.
He had the potential to beat alot of big names in the industry in comparison to whats currently on his resume.
Its only now Joe has been getting the big fights but at 36-37 he is no longer in the prime of his career.
-
Re: Most Protected Fighters
I'm a huge fan of the Petersons but no doubt they've had it soft.
Pavlik had it very soft till Miranda but that's besides the point now.
Obviously JCC Jr.
That Tyrone Brunson guy who's 19-0 with 19 straight first round KO's, one cashier after another.

This is a good point but while he had the potential to beat a lot of big names i feel he would have lost to a prime Hopkins and certainly Jones and he wouldn't be as marketable without his 0 so thats why he was so protected

I would say that Chagaev and Valuev seem to be off in their own protected version of the heavyweight division, one which doesn't include: Wlad Klitschko, Sam Peter, or anyone else that can punch.
Felix Sturm, Arthur Abraham, Amin Asikainen, Sebastian Sylvester, and all the other Europeans in the middleweight division!
James McGirt Jr.
Aaron Pryor Jr.
Amir Kahn
DAVID HAYE at heavyweight....you don't have a right to call out the best in a weight class you haven't even fought in.

They expected Berrio to take the fight at 10 days notice, an (admittedly limited)
former champ asked to be an opponent to an up and comer in his home town, he did precisley what anyone else would, tell him to fuck off.

Re: Most Protected Fighters
Carl Froch is shite too.....anyone associated with Frank Warren is bound to have a padded record.
Ricky Hatton was protected for a long damn time as well as was Joe Calzaghe....fighting a 40 year old Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. when you had every opportunity to fight them earlier is pretty shiesty
-
Re: Most Protected Fighters
Froch is not with Warren.
-
Re: Most Protected Fighters
Then what's his excuse???? Why is he being such a pussy and fighting bums???
England sure does enjoy wasting everyone's time with bullshit fighters who talk big games and then fail under pressure

Re: Most Protected Fighters
Didn't want too much time to pass before mentioning Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s name again.
