At Light Welter. Who wins guys ? Thanks.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
The Hatton that fought Tszyu in England could and would win.
The Hatton that fought Urango, Maussa etc. would've lost.
M,eldrick was very fast and a lovely boxer.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Ricky Hatton would get outclassed by a prime Meldrick Taylor with his lighting speed, good footwork, solid chin, he takes Hatton to school IMO.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Meldrick Taylor for sure.
Taylor pushed Chavez to the brink. Is there anyone here who actually thinks Hatton is in the same league as Chavez?
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
I think if this fight is foughten without Cortez being the ref, and its the Hatton who fought Tszyu I think he wins this one. Meldrick's speed only counts for something he has room to use it, and he had good footwork, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't as elusive as Mayweather, and he couldn't counter of his back fought like Mayweather, Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr., etc.
Furthermore, Taylor didn't have the defensive skills of the ropes that would be needed to keep Hatton at bay, I see this being close, but looking like Duran-Leonard 1, with Taylor not being able to get off the ropes, and Hatton smothering him, being in too close for Taylor to get off those combinations, and Hatton has too good of lateral movement while his opponent is against the ropes for Taylor to get away.

Its not about being in the same league or not, but if Hatton had Chavez's chin there is very good chance he would be that good, he is a lot faster then Chavez, he cuts off the ring better, he isn't as good to the body, but he throws very accurate short punches. Whereas Hatton would smother Taylor non-stop, Chavez let Taylor stay off the ropes, and Chavez didn't get in close against Taylor like he normally liked to. You didn't see him pin Taylor to the ropes which he should have done.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Taylor would of embarrassed Hatton

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
I would say Taylor.
Great boxer with fast hands and feet.
At his best on the outside but coud also fight on the inside if needed.
I think he would out work Hatton and stop him late.

It isn't? Why not? Chavez is in a different league altogether from Hatton as a fighter.

Debatable. Chavez was no slouch at cutting off the ring. Ask Edwin Rosario.

that's an understatement

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
I'd say Taylor would do a similar job on Hatton as PBF did.

Not disagreeing, but using your rationale.....are you saying Taylor was better than Tszyu?

Prime Taylor was better than old Tszyu, which is the version of Tszyu that Hatton fought.

Sorry mate but that's a crock of shit! Why was Tszyu old?? He had had less fights than Hatton and had not been in any wars (apart from Philips) the critics rated his performances against Mitchell 7 months prior as one of his best - what happened in those 7 months from Tszyu looking fantastic, to him suddenly being old and shot???

When did I ever say Tszyu was shot?
The fact is that Tsyzu was not at his peak when Hatton faced him, and the fight was significantly influenced by the referee allowing Hatton to maul Tszyu. I'm not knocking Hatton by pointing that out, I'm just stating facts.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Tszyu was 35?? and had fought Tackie Leija and Mitchell, since his biggest win against Judah, so I don't see why he suddenly got 'Old'
Was Lewis old against Grant, Tua & Botha, was Hopkins old against Vanderpool & Echols?
I know Hatton's limitations and I have already said I think he would lose to MT, but I just don't see any eveidence of Tszyu being old (other of course from the fact he lost to Hatton - so I guess he must've been )

Age is relative, not all 35 year old fighters are the same, especially fighters of different weight classes (heavier fighters generally peak later than smaller fighters) so comparing Tszyu to a 35 year old Lewis or 35 year old Hopkins is pointless. Any boxing fan knows this, I'm sure you know this as well.

I can remember all those people tipping Hatton before the fight because they thought Tszyu was old ;)

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
At his peak Taylor would have boxed circles around Hatton
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
taylor wins hands to fast
-
Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Hatton that fought Tszyu was a immense force but would not beat a peak Kostya, Meldrick or JCC.

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
It's a pick 'em fight for me. Taylors speed would have caused Hatton problems (he was beautiful boxer) much like PBF but Taylor liked to mix it every now and again and if he did that Hatton would punish him to the body. A body and rough up attack would have to be Hattons game plan. If MT trades and Hatton gets to his body enough to slow him down then Hatton wins. If Taylor stays out of the mix and box's I could see him wiining on points.
Neither would have been outclassed IMO.

I disagree, Taylor was pissing blood for a while after the Chavez and was broken up to the body as well and was still nailing Chavez till he got caught.. Taylor would have beaten Ricky pretty good

Re: Ricky Hatton vs Meldrick Taylor
Movement and handspeed Imo has Hatton reacting all night to Taylor.Just don't think a prime Hatton could manage to Trap and force exchanges enough with a prime Taylor.Hattons best shot would be to eat Taylors body up but ohh how his head would pay.
