DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
Many people considered the under negotiation DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao fight as a total freak show because of the massive size difference between the two.
Maybe people were just overwhelmed from what they saw physically. In boxing, size is just one of the factors. There are other factors that might come into play like speed (hand and foot), stamina, defense, elusiveness, heart, will, hunger, etc.
It's been proven before from flyweight to heavyweight that size is not everything...

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
Wladimir Klitschko vs Chris Byrd
George Foreman vs Michael Moorer
George Foreman vs Joe Frazier
Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson
Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson
Lennox Lewis vs Mike Tyson
Tommy Hearns vs Roberto Duran
Alexis Arguello vs Ray Mancini
I could go on....I mean the only reason you remember the "David vs Goliath" fights is because they are sensational due to the size difference but big guys USUALLY beat the smaller guys which is why that is ho-hum and common place. I could list more big guys beating little guys that you would ever care to read about.
Your thread is a SAD attempt to legitimize a fight that isn't worth watching....even if it was FREE

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
10 out of 14 BOXING fans would buy that fight, it doesn't look good to me. I and many other boxing fans think that De la Hoya vs Pacquiao is a FARCE.
#1 The fight does nothing for De la Hoya's legacy win or lose
#2 The fight does little for Pacquiao...if he DOES win, especially by KO people won't believe it at all
Pacquiao started his career at 106, De la Hoya started at 135 (where Pacquiao is right now).
ONLY the Pacquiao fans are hyped about this fight...I give Pacquiao a better shot vs Mayweather Jr.

It is a farce. But I'm buying it anyway if it happens. If Pacquiao is so determined to get knocked out, than let him. I'll be watching

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
I'm not paying either of them...infact if this fight happens I may sue them both for being giant douchebags
GUILTY!!!!

I agree that the bigger guy wins most of the time but as what my thread title says "SIZE is not everything"... Little guys also win sometimes and in most cases using their superior speed to do it...
Totally writing off PAC's chances in this fight is just not acceptable...

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
I'm just getting tired of seeing all these fuking threads they keep making for a fight that isn't even made yet!!!!!!!!! :furious2:
Keep this crap in one thread, you're wasting good space, and you're not going to change anyone's mind with this crap.
I like Manny, but you guys are making me want to seem him get pounded into oblivion.
You're over doing it.

I only saw 3 "ODLH-PAC" threads out of 30 or so threads in the main board. 2 started by me and 1 by killersheep. 2 were started yesterday and 1 started last August 9... I don't think this as an overkill...
I agree, we can keep them in one thread... but beware once this fight get signed and delivered, expect the board be flooded with this "ODLH-PAC" threads...

I'm hyped about this fight since it's a win-win situation for both boxers;
Oscar wins - he defeated the currently recognized no. 1 P4P best boxer in the world.
Oscar loses - there's no shame in losing to the currently recognized no. 1 P4P best boxer in the world.
Pacquiao wins - will be in excellent position to call out PBF from retirement. PBF vs. PAC will be another huge fight for boxing fans.
Pacquiao loses - he lost to the bigger boxer... ;D

I think i've seen more Cotto v Mayweather threads in the last few months, and one of those fighters is stone cold retired...
What's good for the goose must be good for the gander..
I'm completely against ODLH v PAC, but always when there is a shadow of superfight looming, topics get beaten to death over and over.. Hatton Mayweather I think had 12 topics on the first page alone, all basically saying the same thing...
I find it saddening though that people actually have to be spending thread after thread DEFENDING the validity of this fight... When there are equal amount of thread actually BEGGING for other fights to happen, that probably won't because the money isn't there, and ODLH is pulling the strings....
It's backwards I tells ya..

Confusing as phuk if you ask me, I come in here thinking the fight is a done deal

I don't want to see Manny get pounded into oblivion :-\
And if the match is made, I will rooting with all of my heart for the little guy :D

Lyle who are you calling David and who are you calling Goliath in the Holyfield-Tyson matchup? Holyfield was taller but Tyson was the natural Heavyweight. Tommy Hearns was taller than Tyson but I certainly wouldn't have said he was BIGGER. I could make a list of fighters that have stepped up and beat bigger guys just like your list.
Michael Spinks v Larry Holmes x2 (although I didn't agree)
Roy Jones Jr v John Ruiz
Floyd Mayweather v Oscar De La Hoya
Michael Moorer v Evander Holyfield
Roy Jones Jr v James Toney
SRL v Marvin Hagler
Roberto Duran v SRL
This list too could go on and on.
I would be quite interested in a ODLH-Pac fight even though I would rather see Oscar fight Marg I just can't see it happening. I'd be willing to bet that it would be on of the biggest selling fights in history anyway. Just the fact that its Oscars last fight would have even non boxing fans buying it I think.

He gets doubly ridiculed for losing to the much smaller man. Bye-bye legacy.

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield may have started out in different weight classes BUT Holyfield was the bigger guy he was not only taller but he was in better shape than Tyson, he was stronger and had more stamina and in the rematch they both weighed in at 218.
And if you don't like that then how about Bowe-Holyfield or Lewis-Holyfield?

Yep being a huge Evander fan I loved Bowe-Holyfield II and I actually scored the Lewis-Holyfield II fight a draw so in my eyes the right results came out of them 2 fights just in the wrong order

Does anybody remember the last time somebody went up a total of 7 weight classess to fight? Help me cause I don't.

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
so when the Pacquiao news is a little slow, Saddoboxer bumps threads from a year ago.
Also, while you were pointing out that Lyle was wrong, you were wrong yourself in saying this was a no lose situation for De La Hoya. sooo....
Basically I wanted to neg rep you but I couldn't.
-
Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
of course you realize that in PAC - DLH size turned out to be irrelevant. It was all about fitness and conditioning, age, whatever. DLH just wasn't there. There was no glory in beating that version of DLH, that's for sure.

You know it's lots of fun reading some old postings... Some fun at the expense of others...;D
That explained the bump... Have some fun...;D

Re: DelaHoya vs. Pacquiao - SIZE is not everything
So when you saw size isn't everything it only concerns Pac right?
Not the JMM/Mayweather fight?
You contradict yourself more than anyone on these boards..

The title said it all "size is not everything"... JMM is a heavy underdog against PBF since he doesn't enjoy any advantage over PBF plus he is heavily undersized in this fight...
Unlike PAC who enjoyed 3 or 4 advantages (speed, stamina, youth, southpaw, etc.) over Hoya... So even if PAC is undersized in the Hoya fight, he still enjoyed other advantages that can help him defeat Hoya...;D
Sorry I can't defend JMM's heavy size disadvantage on this case...;D

Of course you can not , you would die B4 admitting ODLH was an old worn and drained fighter. You would never say anything negative about your "GOD". And the best thing is that "IF" JMM manages to beat PBF he will catapult Pac. Except in Pac huggers minds .....

The best thing is, I've been defending PAC way before the Hoya fight... Look at the date this thread was started August 12, 2008... You can just imagine the mountain of criticisms and insults I got from August to December of 2008 just for saying "PAC has a chance to win against Hoya"...
After that fight Hoya was considered an old worn drained fighter... So be it... What I care PAC won the fight in one sided fashion, busted Hoya's face, made Hoya quit on his stool and eventually sent Hoya to retirement... It's so fulfilling on picking the right boxer...
I'm just a PAC fan, he's not my god... I even pick Mosley to defeat PAC at 147 on the other thread (check it out dude)... ;D

Put it this way - At least PBF/JMM will have both had a good meal in them... ;)
