NEWLYWED former world boxing champion Lennox Lewis spent the first night of his Jamaican honeymoon on hurricane alert.
But though his resort, Montego Bay, was pounded by high winds and torrential rain, 155mph Hurricane Emily passed to the south of the island.
Yesterday, as a clean-up operation got under way, the storm was heading across the Caribbean to Mexico.
Thousands of tourists were asked to leave Cancun where the storm is expected to strike within the next 48 hours.
In Jamaica, Emily triggered floods and mudslides in some southern areas but officials said no fatalities had been reported
Hundreds of locals had fled their homes as a precaution and taken refuge in schools and churches.
Holidaying Britons were stranded as both the island's main airports closed.
Lewis, 39, wed long-term girlfriend Violet Chung, 27, in Jamaica on Saturday.
They wore matching white outfits as they exchanged vows at a Baptist church in the parish of Falmouth.
Among the guests was fellow former British boxing champion Chris Eubank.
Lewis revealed his engagement to former Miss Jamaica runner-up Violet moments after announcing that his 44fight boxing career was over.
However, he is now believed to be coming out of retirement for a £40million rematch against Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, who he defeated before retiring.

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
There was speculation of him coming out of retirement a few months back but that was for about 25 mill euros. If both meet in the ring, now that would be a super fight. It would definatly generate alot of interest around boxing.

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
It would be great, but I really doubt it will happend.

It's almost as bad as the rumors of Naz coming back, but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
It would make both boxers a crap load of money, but it would be a grave mistake on Lewis' part to come back and fight Vitali. Lennox would lose and lose badly. He should just keep that lucky technical win over Vitali and stay retired.
Its just nagging Lewis that his win was questionable and he ran away from the set rematch two years ago. Everyone boo's him in every boxing match he attends and his last and final win is very doubtful. Add the huge purse to the equation and we have Lennox wanting to come back more than ever.
Lewis should (and probably will) stay retired.
-
Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
Lewis has already said before about comming back to fight klitschko but before long he said he wouldnt.
i dont see how lewis can just come out of retirement and expect to beat him like he did last time. even though it was through a court

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
Lewis would be mad, he has nothing to gain, neither does Vitali.
Lewis wins, everyone says Vitali was shit anyway.
Vitali wins, and everyone says Lewis is 39+ and has not had a fight for two years plus.
Vitali is a lot better of, trying to avenge his other defeat to Mr Byrd, that would gain him real creditability, not to mention Lewis' now vacant World Crown.

Yes, since Vitali was smashing Byrd before the stoppage because of his rotator cuff injury, he will easily defeat Byrd in a remtach, no questions asked. If younger brother Wlad could embarass Byrd, then Vitali would just humiliate him. That being said, Vitali most definately needs to fight Byrd...only if Don King allows it, since Byrd is in Kings pocket. Logically, King knows Byrd doesnt really stand a chance so I doubt he will let that fight happen easy.

You are right it would also give Vitali the opportunity to start to put his reputation for quitting fights, when the going gets tough, to bed.

"quitting fights"? Once has this happened and with a good excuse. Agony which is caused by a torn rotator is probably a pain very unfamiliar to you. Going 10 rounds in such pain and still dominating the fight should at the least hint you something. Second, why would you risk your career over a fight that barely makes you break a sweat?

James 'Buddy' McGirt did it against Whitaker, twice! And he quit in neither fight.
Larry Holmes beat Ken Norton despite going into the fight with a torn bicep.
Tommy Morrison won a fight against Joe Hipp with a broken jaw and hand.
If you want to be remembered at this sort of level, there are times you need to go beyond the call of duty; Vitali choose not to.

Im going to say this again, the agony of a torn rotator cuff is obviously a pain that is unfamailiar to you. Going 10 rounds and dominating the fight should tell you something. He was easily winning, why would he want to quit for no reason? Use some logic. Champion boxing career or early retirement because you were a moron and chose to stay in a fight that you dominated in the first place.
Second, you are nobody to judge the severity of his injury or the situation compared to anyone else.
Bottom line: Vitali Klitschko > Chris Byrd, any day.

We will find out, hopefully in due cause, but for the moment it is very much Byrd 1 Vitali 0. ;D

Let me rephrase that, since unlike you, I consider the word "beat" as in outperform and outclass. Byrd did neither.
So you are honestly telling me all mighty Britkid, that Chris Byrd is superior to Vitali Klitschko...lol....alright....ok.

For someone who is so well respected and liked in this forum, you sure don't seem to understand a whole lot about anatomy and physiology. Fighting, or doing anything else with a torn rotator cuff would cause extreme pain. As for your comment on Klitschko being better off not mentioning Lewis, I think it's the other way around. Lewis got a present from St. Nick in June 2003, and he should recognize this and stop hanging out in the camps of all of Vitali's opponents like some high school cheerleader........it makes him look REAL bad! Almost as if he knows deep down that he was going to lose that fight.

Wow, excellent post. Very true! Stole the words out of my mouth. :coolclick: I'd give you two if I could!
Yet Lennox Lewis gets booed in almost every boxing match he attends. It gets to him. He was beat up in his last fight and retired on an unbalanced heel, specially after running away from a scheduled rematch which was to take place immediatley. Ofcourse, who would want to retire with a loss as your last fight? He made a smart move and retired with a technical win over Vitali Klitschko, just like his advisors told him to.

As I have pointed out, fighters have fought with torn rotator cuffs. James 'Buddy' McGirt did it twice against Pernell Whitaker.
All I have said, is special fighters very often make special consessions to pain in their pursuit of greatness. Weather it is Holmes fighting with a torn bicep for 15 rounds, or even Tommy Morrison fighting on with a broken jaw and hand, and winning!
Klitschko has not shown this ability.

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
Here's the thing...Vitali is somebody...Byrd is a somebody. They are two of the best talents in the division...anyone that say's different is a close minded fan of one of the other fighters...or you just don't recognize skill.
As far as an injury goes...it's like this...& Christ almighty BritKid & I have gone through this before...everyone feels pain differently & everyone analyzes things differently...Vitali & his corner chose not to continue because he was in so much pain & it's better to live to fight another day.
That was their choice. Other than the Byrd loss...there is nothing else to complain about Vitali in my eyes & the Byrd loss is not a big factor. It was years ago & he has done more than prove himself...since then...Byrd has been KTFO by Ike & has been handed a few gifts along the way.
Vitali is a good man, a good fighter, & a champion. He will prove himself. The Byrd fight would be the best for his image...YES. The Lewis fight would be the best for his pockets.
I would prefer to see him dominate Byrd again...as he was doing in the first fight before he injured himself. Vitali has fought well in every other fight period & I think that we as watchers, fans, & posters are often too critical of fighters when we are nothing more than couch potatoes with opinions.
All fighters deserve respect...especially Vitali.
Now that I have said that...fook James Toney, Antonio Tarver, John Ruiz, Andrew Golota, Brewster, & whoever else out there that I dislike. You guy's suck ass!
Oh yeah...respect Vitali. Heh heh heh.

Re: Lewis Klitschko rematch?
Lennox, Lennox, Lennox I like you as a fighter, I respect you as a fighter so please do yourself a favor and just continue to enjoy your honeymoon and have yourself the "CONTINENTIAL" breakfast and a glass of orange juice. ;D
To be honest with you I wish he would come back just see and hear the excuses that will be made once Vitali beats him. I have no excuses for Vitali loosing to Lennox notice how I said loosing, cuz Vitali was beating Lennox. But Lennox still won the fight, I highly doubt this will happend. But it would be great.
